On-Site CCTV Ideal Setup Reqs: - Keep the data stored in-house (not sent to the cloud) - Have cameras run on a powered circuit with battery backup - Have the storage server with hard drives in a physically safe location, with locked access - Have the cameras hard wired, not wirelessly transmit (no jamming) - Position cameras such that they're difficult to physically disable - Cover avenues of approach, key terrain, etc...

​@PatrickFaricy software can be BlueIris for Windows or Frigate for Linux. You can use a mini computer with an N100 processor. You will need a POE switch to send power and signal thru ethernet cable. Cameras must be researched to be sure they accept 3rd party software i mentioned earlier. But don't do all this if you are very basic with tech or youll just have the cameras sitting.

My son was just bogusly charged with assault after having been the victim of an attempted robbery. The would be robber lost the fight and then called the cops because he learned to play the system by being the first one to call 911. The Officer's response showed how this tactic has been cultivated. In fact, my son was looked at with wrongdoing because he didn't call 911. Fortunately, I was able to locate a critical witness that saw the incident and was willing to give me a statement. The location was chosen by the guy that attacked my son because there aren't any cameras. Good situational awareness needs to take this into account these days. Horrible, but it's the world we live in.

On the Ring cameras, we opted for another make after identifying a HUGE security flaw with them. Did some digging and found it was a known issue at the time and Ring didn't seem concerned w fixing it, so something to research. We found if you trigger it and wait a set time, it stops recording and takes a set time to reset/re-arm. Basically bad person walks by, counts off, comes back and kicks your door in, and is inside before a single frame is taken.

God bless you and yours! I currently have “blink” cameras, they do rely on internet but are battery operated, but last year or years on a couple lithium AA’s. I like that you can have them be turned on or off at certain times. I have a set of 6 at home and a business, I’ve been pretty happy thus far, over 1 year now.

Great format and topic! I got Ring as appartment doorbell, magnetic and motion sensors, indoor stick-up cameras, Eufy at the familys summer house and Ubiquiti UniFi Protect and Axis at work, as security devices.. All of them have solid uptime and no issues 3+ years.

Documenting everything is essential because it is often just your word against their word. When I was in law enforcement, I insisted on having a body worn camera because, as all LEOs knows, everyone lies. It's good to hear that you were already cognizant of this, but I highly encourage documenting any and all contentious encounters for all of your audience. I use a combination of Lorex for my hard-wired cameras and Blink for my wireless cameras. My choices were made more for price/performance value rather than pure performance.

We use Google cameras and are pretty happy with them. I'm also in the process of getting a 26kW Kohler Generator and a Starlink for internet (among other preps). Recent hurricanes in Florida made me realize we are not as prepared as we need to be. Appreciate you Mike!

Rove 4k dash cams in every vehicle and Wyze (with cloud backup) for home surveillance. Constantly new tech at wyze and very affordable with loads of customization. Caught the ex wife attack me from behind on my wyze cam in the garage and it saved me from a felony. Took 16 months to be shown to a prosecutor then it was dismissed instantly, even before court. She used the accusation to file for divorce too. Life is getting really crazy. I was once in a very trusted position similar to you Mike and had that same government try to prosecute me for DV falsely also. Keep your head up brother.

To your question at the end, I’m loving my Ubiquiti cameras - it’s a greater upfront cost, but there are no subscriptions, and the data/videos are stored locally on your own hard drives. The app is very easy to setup and use, and the doorbell’s ability to identify people and animals, as well as fencing out parts of the scene that are normal for traffic vs when someone is approaching your house makes the notifications actually useful.

I am glad you are level headed. My hubby and I both agree, you are right about that man. We are CO natives and its the same here. We have morals, respect and belief in a higher power that ultimately we have to answer to. Along the entire front range of CO, we have been seeing this strange behavior progressing for 15+ years. A strange take over of their way or trouble. We thought it was just a CA thing but now feel like you said. They know how they can weaponize laws and use them against us. He might be your neighbor but has opposite beliefs. He might have friends or adult children/college age grandchildren who gave him ideas to use this system by "stereotyping" you or any of your friends. I know this happens in FL with wealthy Snowbirds from northern states. These people have no problem brain washing our children, lying on the news and cheating if they need to get what they want because they are so far down the rabbit hole of crazy. Watch your back. You can protect yourself and family from baddies but people like that are so hard to deal with because we don't think like that.

Maybe get something besides Ring? I would get wired cameras for the house, and keep them on a battery with at least 72 hours of current. There's a gang in L.A. that has been doing home invasion by knocking out the wifi on things like Ring with EMP. Also, protect the battery and main hard drive. Not to mention that Ring is hackable at the software level, and is vulnerable. Sometime old school is the best.

I have a rather elaborate security setup...cameras, motion sensors, door and window sensors, the works and it's all running locally on my server. No "cloud" nonsense. The cameras record in Blue Iris running on a dedicated VM in unRAID, all the sensors and stuff in Home Assistant. Could probably teach a class on it for you, Mike!! I LOVE the shit!!

Good advice! One of my neighbors now wears a body cam around his neck 12/7 (i.e., not when he's sleeping) after a run in with a drunken neighbor, and HE got arrested! Dunno what kind -- but it 'feeds the signal' to up a satellite, so it's always saved contemporaneously!! SAD that we all have to be super-self-protective, but that's current day reality!

I got a $35 1080p slim body cam with audio off Amazon I use and wear everywhere I go. It's about the size of a bic lighter with clip on. Videos everything. Thank you Mike. Always good.
