What I like the most about this channel is the fact that most videos are really short and objective. No history lesson, no personal life rambling, no complaints about the software, a completely educational video.

Hi Mike, thanks for the upload. Great tutorial thanks. Just a little thing, at 4:04 you don't mention to double click the line in 'Edge' mode and that you have to hold down 'shift' to select the underside? Just thought I'd mention it : ) Hope the feedback helps. Keep up the good work!

Very good tutorial. But I have doubt should I uv's my object to 1 big 2d image(too complex to UV) or separate UV object fine. I don't know where to use separate UV( like hands UV i have 5 different UV for finger) or I have to connect to hands (little bit messy ). Please suggests me how to make better UV .
@MHTutorials3D6 жыл бұрын
Try to get everything in 1 UV and if that is not possible then try to use logical groups per UV

"g" to repeat last command. I have a projection of a material on an object but when the object moves the projection doesn't but I find that projecting is a very easy way to get the alignments right. Can you bake a projection after you get it just right? Need to use the same material for other things.
@MHTutorials3D8 жыл бұрын
If needed for an animation I wouldn't project it but texture it. That would avoid trouble

Hello, i hace a cuestion How you can create more than one uv texture, i have a few pieces of my model which i want to create an different uv´s for each. Thank you!!
@MHTutorials3D6 жыл бұрын
UV them one by one ( so one object, one UV )
@rdoetjes8 жыл бұрын
I think you would have been able to do a very easy good UV edit if you only took the inside ring laterally (as you did) and cut around intersecting this ring that goes around the torus. Because basically you were left with a toroid. Then you had one big island from the get go. What I always imagine doing is taking a pair of scissors and cutting the shape up. So when you would cut this shape open through the inside ring you could flatten it out but still be ring so cutting though it somewhere after that would break it open en you could flatten it out. But UVing is always a bitch. I'd easily pay several grand for an application that could do it 80% of the way for me. Just puling a few verts to limit stretching that would be my tool. Just haven't found it yet :D

i'm new to this, and it's driving me crazy! Serious question, what is the point? The last shape its pattern does not match. What if you want to place a picture as texture you would see that there is a line! What is the point of the uv unwrapping? Is this purely to 3D paint, and use the Uv as a lay out to exchange between clients? Please answers i'm going crazy! 1)What is the ideal way to do it, paint and then uv unwrap, or first uv unwrap and then paint. The latter does not work for me!
@MHTutorials3D8 жыл бұрын
If you want to wrap a 2D picture on a 3D object ( like a newspaper on a balloon ) you will have to cut, paste and arrange to get the seams in the right place ( if there are seams )
@proefpa8 жыл бұрын
thanks, uv mapping is such a pain in the ass, i'm trying to map something 'simple' but still it comes out all wrong, or at least i think it does.
@seanhomar59457 жыл бұрын
if u are struggling with the uv unwrapping like I often do, there is a way around it, when I have uv an object I don't always get it right, maybe 90% is correct, what I do next is I go to face selection, select the part of the texture that is not correct then I plannar map it, then using the plannar tools I manipulate the image usig the sliders, its not 100% guaranteed to work but I have found on simple textures like for bark on trees of wood grain it works really well.
@ChristianMalle9 жыл бұрын
u make it look so easy, but i wish u went into texturing too. i'd like to see u texture that object so that seem isn't visible (easily).
@MHTutorials3D9 жыл бұрын
+Christian Malle Christian, That's a fair statement. I just randomly chose that seam but based on the texture that I would use I would decide to place it in a different location. If I for example would have used a wood texture I would only created 1 seam, probably to the side on the inner circle. The end result would look like this facebook.com/MHTutorials/photos/p.175480352796844/175480352796844/?type=3&theater Mike

+Mike Hermes I'm a first years 3D visual art student and I'm loving your videos currently, they've helped me quite a lot, but, aren't there a lot of options to kind of work away seems, if you would just make sure the texture 'tiles' over the seam you wouldn't see it anyways right?
@MHTutorials3D9 жыл бұрын
With a perfectly seamless 2D texture yes, but in cases where you expect to see the seam it is good practice to but in a less visible place Mike

Nice video, but you could have saved 8+ minutes just by cutting it laterally along the outside and inside from the getgo, instead of messing around welding auto-generated seams for 8+ minutes.
