Thanks man, was trying to figure out how to do this for ages and somehow got the idea it was related to nCloths. Gonna run up some cool simulations now!

At school, we're using Maya 2013 so I didn't know how to set collision on objects here on 2017. So thanks for the tip bby

How can I move the effect to later in the timeline? I don't want it to start at the beginning, but maybe 30 seconds later. Is it possible to delay the effect in the timeline?

Hi,can I ask a question? When I select all these cubes and click "Active Rigid Body",after that when I select the bulletSolver in the outliner,all these cubes are surround by white lines as if they are selected(but these cubes are not selected in outliner),when no object in the outliner is selected it is still the same,how do I solve this? I would appreciate if you can answer,thank you.

+Mike Hermes Hey Mike, I have a question: I shattered a cube using the shatter tool you made a video about. How can I get that to work with bullet physics. I tried it with and without jagged edges. Is it even possible? Everytime I try, everything just explodes. Thanks in advance, you are a great source for learning Maya. -Kosan

This bullet thing just does not work for me. First they was just clumping and overlapping at the to the centre of the grid after pressing play. Then i did the whole scene again and it didn't clump but now they don't even collide with each other???? what is going on???

@Mike Hermes How can you control a passive/active rigid body in maya's bullet system without using inital velocity or dynamic properties? I tried grouping the passive/active collider inside itself to move it around and keyframe, but that doesn't change it's collision corridinates.

Great stuff as usual, Mike. I had a question. I'm experimenting and creating something similar to your demonstration, however I want the ball to be "rolling" through the stack as it's falling. I tried the ball as a passive rigid body and it didn't move so I turned it into an active rigid body. I needed to reanimate the movement to the ball but the cubes don't collide with it, it just passes right through. Suggestions?

Have the ball fall straight down and then tilt the camera so it looks like the ball is going from right to left

Turning the camera won't create collision, though, right? I'm looking for the blocks to collide with a moving object. I have the ball moving but it "phases" through rather than actively showing a collision.

Hello, Mike first I'd like to say I'm a big fan of your tutorials and all of them are super easy to follow along. I know it's super late and you probably won't be able to get back to me in time which is perfectly fine, I was wondering if there is a way to do not just reverse gravity but have the repo mash start from the collider object/floor and go back to its original state?

hi, I have problem. When I use Bullet and active active rigid body, maya says "// Error: Failed to create evaluator for "drawdb/geometry/bulletRigidBodyShape" classification because the current drawing API isn't supported.". I have maya 2017. Could you help me? :(

hi Mike, when I use the bullet in my scene, the object disappears and I have on the translate attributes "Infinity". It isn't in the center of the world, it is the reason, because when I did it on a new scene, it's working. If the matter subsists, how can i export the animation of a falling object from a clean scene to the other scene? Thx

im trying to do some ice cubes falling into a cup (nothing fancy), but when i apply the passive to the cup, the shape of the cup in the collission view is not in the same position as my cup model, and i cannot figure out why

the thing with collision in bullet, the collision object has to be in the center of the grid, there you create the collision object, and then you can move in to where you need it to be

Hi Mike, am trying to follow this tutorial but the "ground plane" option is not in my bulletsolvershape1, solver properties. Any way I can bring it back up or relocate it? I am using Maya 2014 just for your information.

It's alright. I found another way to do it by creating a plane polygon on the grid and making it a passive rigid object so the cubes can interact with it. Thanks for the fast reply and love your tutorials!

Hy! it seems I have a problem whem rendering with mental ray, I have a floor as a pasive object, and a shattered cube as an active, in the software everithing seems fine but in the render the cube passes throu the floor

Mine are not falling from above, rather moving in a horizontal directions instead of dropping vertically, any ideas why please?

Check the direction of your gravity in the attribute editor

I'd like to test How much Mike Hermes knows about Bullet. Here is an example, how do you constraint a dynamics object to a particular axis but also keep the dynamics object in a particular spot in world space ?

You have applied the field to the sphere instead of the cubes

Sure, remove gravity from the bricks and add negative gravity to the sphere

Hey Mike big fan! I'm pretty new to maya and I was wondering if you could do a tutorial on how to model a clone commando. Mainly how to model the armor. If you can't do the whole thing just the helmet would be nice. Thanks again for all the help!

PLEASE HELP!! I turned on bullet, but no longer need it anymore. Whenever i scrub through my timeline, some objects get positioned oddly and whenever i re position them, they just go back to the same spot whenever i scrub again. How do i 'disable' bullet?

+ethanw611 Have you deleted the history ? Also go to Windows - Outliner and delete the Bullet there too

I know I'm 2 years late but you can probably do it by keying the translation and rotation of the objects at frame 1 and whatever your last frame is

Hi Mike. I'm trying to apply a passive rigid body to a tube that i made for a ball to go through, problem is that it's literally going straight through it like it's air. I used ep curve tool and a cylinder that i extruded. Does it have anything to do with it? I also checked collider type to mesh, and still same result. (Same result for all collider types)

Omg!! Is there a way to do this on Maya 2011? can I install the Bullet plugin manually for maya 2011? please yes.. I really can't use a higher version than 2011 in maya, because I can't Export it to the game engine then...

i've been battling with bullet all day and come to the conclusion it utterly sucks! I have a heap of rock geometry shapes, i set them as a rigid set setting them to hull object (or cube or sphere it literally makes no difference!), i then create a simple poly cube to act as a floor but they just fall straight through it. unique names, no history, transforms frozen - you name it i've been through it - bullet wont play ball - its utterly crap! its cute if i want to make cubes fall onto an invisible ground plane but for anything real its terrible - lost a day of my life to this rubbish! sorry i'm angry and venting lol!

to everyone who says they lost time, lol nope they didnt. it is a learning process, and something that feels like its a useless experience will be 100% usefull in future with some other code
