Things are looking better. Starting to look like you may have a good machine! I was impressed with the improvements case made in the 580 transmission design from my 1966 and 1967 580 Construction King. When I got the 1966 the power shuttle and clutch pressure relief spool valve were really bad with bits of metal and broken springs from the power shuttle clutch assembly. Much easier to work on the newer design. But I got it working and put another 11,000 hours on the 1966. When totally worn out with over 36,000 hours I got the 1967 which was in a lot better shape. It is great to have 2 nearly identical machines with spare parts to rob and keep the best one running. Did a job yesterday and the 52 year old hoe still works great! Just take the time to service the equipment, don't abuse them and they keep doing the work! Thanks Mike!!
@fastst15 жыл бұрын
ayep, start by removing the hoe, then the rear axle, 4spd gearbox then into the shuttle. I'm still using mine but yes both clutch packs were roached. I think mine is a 1970, still going strong. No hour meter as someone swapped in a tractor distributor.

He found this machine for dirt cheap and he is going to bring it back to it's full potential. Case is an excellent brand. I don't think time has done anything to this backhoe that Mike can't deal with. He is going to get many years of use out of this or flip it for a very handsome markup. I had the worst time getting the trans disconnect with the brake pedal adjustment just right so it didn't clunk in and out of gear as when you step on the brake, everything works but forwards and back. That is so you can ease into something and then step on the brake and throttle up to say lift or whatnot as it is such a fine line between right and wrong. I had air in one wheel cylinder and it just didn't say go here and the troubles are over, nope, a fight was in process with me and it... the stubborn in me won after several rounds. Never so happy as to see things finally go my way. I found that the "O" rings are more important than say the clutches or any band locks that worked on the park system. A lot of the stuff had been bypassed before me so finding and fixing was a uphill battle. Now a trip to the store for clothes line rope if it is the type that takes the rope seals in he ends of the packing on the cylinders

reverse to forward looks smooth, forward to reverse looks a little rough. Maybe it was just the way it looked on video. usually fast shifts between forward to reverse are fairly smooth and vice versa..
@gregbutler98735 жыл бұрын
@@mikekisch5563 Yes I thought you had a reverse clutch leaking ... tractor moves forward and not in reverse because the planetary shifts/moves forward but not reverse, that seal leaks . One little nick on a seal/o-ring and you lose that required pressure to the solenoid that will allow the planetary to shift from forward to reverse. I have rebuilt/repaired every transmission , torque convertor , and planetary drive from D 6-11 crawler type tractors , 24 H road graders , and 797 off highway trucks and I have seen everything from a missing plug in a planetary causing a complete tear down . to finding a leg off a pair of blue jeans in the suction stub on a 797 torques convertor .

It would have been prudent yes, but how much $$$? Time's "free" when it's your own and the parts looked serviceable so why sink a bunch of money into it if you don't have to? Not like it's going to be a frontline everyday heavy use machine.

@@BarnyardEngineering even if I don't use the machine daily or its not a showroom piece if I'm in there I'm changing it.. if you are tired of fighting the piston seals into the drums.. stop by your local transmission parts supplier.. not a transmission shop for the most part.. and pick up a globaltransmissionparts.com/transmission-lip-wizard-installation-tool/ with this you can roll your seal lips in crazy easily .. and those clutches that the steels had marks on them had probably gotten wet at one point.. the clutch surface melted and transferred to the steels.. chances are the friction material is going to come off those discs within a few hours of use causing the transmission to SLIP in that direction..

If you would have taken the machine out to the road and driven out a mile and back, we would have gone with you. Good mechanics take it out so they can be sure nothing is misaligned or overheating by putting up and down a road that is not traveled heavily. But the steering is so crappy I can see why you didn't. But real good job on the transmission. I see you have put at least one brake on so it could have gone out for a joy ride, but for that steering being bad.
