I tried the dawn and hot water trick and I can't believe it actually worked!! My toilet was clogged for 2 days!! It was so nasty!! I had been plunging forever!! With 2 different types of plungers. I was desperate and my bathroom smelled so bad. I figured if it didn't work I'd be no worse off but to my surprise it worked instantly! What helped me about this clip was watching how you put a lot of strength into the plunger. It made me go back and try again. I watched how you had the water in the plunger and made sure to do that when I was working on my clog. I was about to give up after hours of pouring hot water and salt into the toilet. But then I thought I would give it one more try. I pushed and pushed and gave it my all....then I flushed. And to my surprise, the toilet flushed. Before the water was climbing to the top of the bowl and refused to go down and so I was taking the water out with a cup for hours. Thanks for your insight. Grateful we can flush the toilet again!

Pretty old video but helped me in a pinch. I was actually plunging the toilet the wrong way. I did it in a up and down movement, still being in the hole but might not have been as effective while you just put the plunger right in the hole. I did just that and in one try its all fixed. Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation. I accidentally dropped a glass bottle into the toilet bowl, which broke inside. I removed all large pieces, but couple of small ones sneaked in and clogged. I had a plunger which is hollow which you advised is not good. Filled the bowl with water and used the standard toilet brush like a plunger and gave a few good push. In the last two push heard a clinking sound and when I investigated found two broken glass pieces and removed it. Thanks again.

Had someone stay here and toilet was plugged. I had used the bucket of water before I watched the video - but apparently I have the wrong plunger - I poured vinegar and baking soda and the water fizzed. Unfortunately I had the luck of only having the bowl shaped plunger which is useless. Something that I think helped me overcome this was, I laid a small trash bag into the toilet, I slowly placed the bad shaped useless bowl shaped plunger, and pressed against the bag, the goal was to use the bag as a way to SEAL OFF the pressure being applied with the useless plunger, because the bowl shaped plunger is round, the weak spot is that the plunger does not seal, so the bag acts as a seal. But be careful, u want to be fast enough to catch the bag so it won’t plush, I tried the hot water method, with dish soap etc pouring water etc wouldn’t work until I used this bag method I just came up with.

I cannot overestimate the importance of what Mike says about success depending on dumping the pail of water in WHEN THE WATER LEVEL IN THE BOWL IS AT ITS LOWEST !!!! I put down the toilet bowl 5 gallon pails of water no less than 6 times without success. You'd think flushing at the same time would give you the greatest volume and therefore weight of water. However, I did what Mike said and put a 5 gallon pail full of water down the bowl when there was barely any water in it (from the previous attempt) and voila! Success on my first attempt with the water very low. I was very surprised, and obviously very happy!

I also had this issue so I was on here watching different methods i tried a combination of methods after this video: 1. Poring hot water in the toilet, it filled to the rim and went down slow but never emptied. 2. Pored dish detergent in the toilet let it sit 5 mins. 3. Pored more hot water in the toilet then covered it with plastic wrap enough that no air gets thru ( I was really scared to try this thinking my toilet would over flow lol) so try this step at ur own risk. 4. Flushed the toilet.. everything went down (I was really shocked that it actually worked but happy as heck that it did ) lol 5. Pored more water in the toilet just to see if it would go down n yep it sure did.. .... hope this helped!! :)

@@getreal200 Sure! Take the plunger and push it against the back of the bowl-do this slowly. The idea is to expel the air out of the plunger. Keep the plunger below the level of water and gently pull it away from the bowl to allow it to refill with water. Now you can move the water-filled plunger over the hole and plunge away.

Wow. I had no idea there was a proper method on how to use a plunger. I'd just stick it in there and have at it. I'm going to try this now. The toilet in my kids bathroom does this same thing. Sometimes I get a weak flush sometimes the water almost overflows. Can't wait to try this out.

4 - in my case, my toilet was draining slowly. I live in a sleepout and the greywater is pumped out of the drains. In my case the joint connecting the drain pipe and pump had become detached and therefore there was no pump action and the grey water was leaking straight out onto the ground. I only realised this when plunging the toilet and suddenly I could hear the sound of draining water. I went outside behind the sleepout and saw the disconnected pipe and small mounds of toilet paper and 💩. It was now the landlords problem 😬

Though you may have a partial clog it appears that your tank isnt flowing enough water to aide in a good waste flush..maybe there is an adjustment to the float to gain more water volume..?

That is certainly a weak flush and I think there may be an additional problem with that toilet. It looks like discoloration around the large jet at the very bottom of the bowl. There may be calcification that has restricted the flow. Easiest method is to heat a half gallon of vinegar and poor half in the bowl , This will displace the water. Add more vinegar and let it sit for a half day. When I did this, large chunks of minerals flaked off that inlet. Toothbrush or coat hanger can also be used to clean the jet. Of course, wear plastic gloves. A second issue, though rare, could be that the vent stack on the roof is blocked. The back pressure would prevent the toilet from flushing properly. Bird’s nest, wasp nest in the pipe, etc. Examine it with a bright flashlight. Or lower a weight, large washers or a nut, on a string to see if there is a blockage.

At the motel I work at we would constantly find crack pipes down in there. No joke one of the other maintenance guys found one of those rotisserie chickens after snaking it.
