They explained this in the video. The teams that didn’t have a chance at going to the playoffs would race to the worst record or even worse, from the start of the season, some teams may decide to lose pretty much all their games in order to start in much better shoes the next season. The NFL can’t really do this because there are far fewer games to be played. Some years, teams in the NFL have been accused of throwing their season for a good pick though.

its always easy to make stories out of the events fo the past. You even do it with your own life.. But when you are in the moment the things doesn't lay out clearly like if you look back. Further, with 30 teams all have a relatively low chance of getting the top picks, so it means nothing when you say uh the only had a 6 percent chance... Anyway I think too some drafts are rigged but actually, a lot of the top picks are going to small markets opposed to the theory

They wanted a higher pick so they decide to tank again, next year they get the 4th, when they should've had the 1st. So then they tank again. Just give the tankers their pick they tanked for and call it a day.

For the 1984 draft, if they had already determined who won in a backroom, he probably banged the envelope against the side, so they could pick the proper predetermined card. Like you said, all that televised stuff is just for show, it wasn't really done live, so they had to make it entertaining.

To be fair they did upload the draft lottery process this year and even had to redraw the 4tg pick because Memphis got drawn again. And the way they explained the process seemed very fair and organized. Even in this draft that seemed to be very questionable based on the results, its all about probability (at least in 2019). After all there was a 58% chance that the bottom 3 teams wouldn't get the first pick.
