@John Something oh I use the dark link trick every time. The Thunderbird is hard as hell though. Pulling that trick off is much tougher. Even the last palace can be a grind. The game isn't impossible but it's definitely hard. Not in the class of battletoads or ghost n goblins. But it's definitely not easy. It's a good challenge.

I love challenges in this game. One of my own I've done that I should really sit down and record sometime is Level 1 attack and defense while also not getting the candle and cross. That stretch of lava leading up to Death Mountain is a great time when you can't see or really harm anything.

Lv.1 attack power is a nuissance to deal with, and you dared to take the step (and won in the process), funny thing, Dark Link HP is 8 always, no matter the attack power, he can only take 7 hits without dying.

You can continuously down thrust on the flying horse knight bosses. Once he's off the horse, if you position correctly you can jump and down thrust him at the edge of the screen. Hit the sweet spot on his head and you'll continuously damage him while bouncing on him at the screen edge

Level 1 Life challenge next? And for extra challenge, try keeping two stats at level 1! Too bad the XP system doesn't allow for keeping all three stats at level 1 since you have to level one up when you're able to level up all three. Now *_that_* would be a hell of a challenge!

Not only will you not have to fight thunderbird if you die on the shadow, but even if you get a game over, or save and turn off the system and come back, thunderbird will remain dead. Getting his key makes it permanent.

Good going, Mike. I completed this challenge a few years ago and it's very tedious. Also done the no life upgrade challenge and a no magic upgrade too. Those are also difficult but not as challenging as this challenge.

Mike, someday you should try the Zelda 2 randomizer. With this, you can increase the difficulty, like begin with 1 heart instead of 4, randomize plenty of things, including the world map itself, etc...

This is funny, Dark Link doesn't seem to have actual HP but rather the player need a fixed number of hits on him. He died as quickly as if you'd have level 8 attack.

The Zelda Series is my favorite gaming series and I love Zelda II, I wish they made another game in this style but I know they won't cause it's the black sheep lol. It would be cool if we could get more top down and 2D platformer style games to go along with the 3D ones...

Yes. I got it the christmas waaaay back in the day. I thought it was harder than the first, not better...but an equal. A link to the past was a great follow up with the switch back to over to top down. I always wished the first N64 one was side view, 2.5D.

Doing a level 1 magic would be impossible because of thunder magic but a level 1 health is theorically possible but would be so much more difficult than a level 1 sword.
