I see a lot of people asking if I am actually switching or just doing this for the video. I get that a lot of creators do that, but I am legitimately switching. I feel very strongly about my closing statements in this video. In order to maintain my credibility and honesty in videos, I cannot have brand loyalty or biases. Every year, I switch between iOS and Android, and this year will be an android year for me. The switch is so annoying (thanks to Apple's hurdles) but I am making it happen. Don't believe me? Check back in a month, or two months, or eight months :)

Like you, I switch back and forth because I happen to love tech and both are great choices with benefits from both of them. I often end up switching back to iPhone because my family is on iPhone and I'm the odd man out because of iMessage, Facetime, etc. I will say that I have grown to appreciate Apple Maps quite a bit and CarPlay. Google maps has become such a bloated mess that won't shut up I run it with voice nav turned off.

Making the switch is definitely more annoying going from apple to android. I had s7 then to xr and I think next year Ill go with the next pixel 8. I just want google assistant and the ability to back up my photos locally. You can technically transfer photos to Windows now but if you have 1000+ photos its going to freeze and not finish. It suuuucks. I ended up paying for more cloud storage and then downloading from there. Pretty annoying. The biggest loss will be facetime as my fiance and I always use it. She doesnt want me to switch because of that and the emojis and stuff but idk if its all that big of a deal. Google really needs to focus on video capture though. From what Ive seen it can be good to absolute trash. Pictures seem really good but they need to improve the video quality by a lot.

I'm doing the same this year. I had an iPhone 11, have a Mac, Apple watch and beats fit pro and will actually change for the Pixel 7 Pro because I feel the price is fair for what they ask and I can't say the same for the 14 since it looks like the same phone as the 13, but more expensive. Brand loyalty is a stupidity. High props to you mate!

Both are great. I like to switch between both. It's really not the effort people think it will be, you just plug your android phone into an iOS phone and follow 1 minute's worth of setup screens. I think Apples ecosystem is unrivalled but Google is catching up and innovating more quickly. The Google phones are definitely more fun but Apple has a more clean feel to it. Just a personal opinion. Not sure why people get into one and are so defensive, they're just big companies. Move between them and make them work for your money rather than being blindly loyal.

I went from a Samsung (used basically all Google apps though) and switched to an iPhone 14 Pro due to emergency SOS. One thing that surprised me, and really makes me want to go back, is how much better Google seems to be at being an actual phone. Spam detection is far better than on an iPhone, which is generally blanket blocking all calls from an unknown number, and the same is true for spam texts. I often get texts from vendors, one time passcodes, or coworkers and Google Messages is smart enough to pass those through to my inbox as opposed to in the unknown numbers folder which I often don't ever see. Other things that Google just destroys iPhones at are the keyboard quality (GBoard is just miles ahead of iOS keyboard) as well as the cross platform integration, especially if you use Google One.
@laurentiupopa5001

emergency sos and crash detection ahave been on pixel for 3 years. you can even set a time interval, and the phone will check back on you. if you don't respond, it will call your emergency contacts and share the location. very useful if you have to walk in sketchy areas.
@whenhen

@@laurentiupopa5001 It's not the same. I often go to areas with 0 cell service. Emergency SOS on an iPhone will allow free satellite communication with EMS for rescue, or if a car breaks down. Pixel is limited to in range communication.

I've also been with Google since the first pixels, and was still on Android before that (but didn't own a nexus). I'm thinking to switch this time around though to team apple. Google constantly fails at video. Even with side by sides at the store, I see that the 7pro stutters in the beginning before becoming smooth, yet the 14pro never has this issue. Every google phone I've had always has this stuttering issue, like a dropped frame, but I've never experienced it with Apple.

Excellent video and very helpful. I switched to an iPhone 13 Pro Max after using a Pixel for many years but I’m thinking about switching back to the pixel 7. There are two things that are never mentioned in any review which has me thinking about going back. One, there are many third-party apps where you cannot increase the font size on the iPhone. It may sound minor, but for me it’s not. KZbin studio is an example. No matter what you do on an iPhone, the font size stays the same. Also, being able to text through my work PC is something that I used to do all the time on android. Doesn’t look like Apple will never allow your iMessage from a browser. That would be a game changer if they did.

I agree about the apps not respecting the system text size. As someone with horrible vision, it means that I basically need to hold the iPhone a few inches from my face if I'm not wearing glasses. Given how common this is, I'm surprised that Apple hasn't made respecting system text size a requirement for all apps on the app store, save for maybe games where it's impractical. I also agree about the web app version of Google Messages. It's genuinely nice to be able to use whatever computer you want, and be able to text, check your calendar, etc without being locked to one vendor's hardware.

That’s exactly the move I’m making! Trading in my iPhone 13 Pro Max for a Pixel 7 Pro I have on order in Hazel with their super good trade in offers. I’ll let you know what I think, but for me, it comes down to a few things: 1) frustrations with iOS 16. UI bugs have become a norm here, and it seems to be happening to a lesser extent on my work cell (iPhone 12) 2) I miss KZbin Vanced and Adaway; well, vanced is dead but revanced lives on. You could have a truly ad free experience on android. 3) I have a secondary work iPhone for iMessage/FaceTime related needs. 4) browser texting was killer! 5) google assistant. I legit cannot stand Siri. 6) iOS just feels so… lazy. I really don’t like having to wait for slow-as-molasses animations to finish doing their thing before I can tap on, and of course, there’s no way to change animation speeds outside of “reducing motion” in accessibility which makes using your phone feel like a windows movie maker project. 7) need. That. Call. Screening. I have to answer every call that comes my way in my current position.

You nailed it about diversification of what to use. I own multiple apple products including an iPhone for my personal use. I justified getting a GoogleFi plan with a new Pixel Pro to use as a business number for my LLC and also a way to utilize a back-up connectivity resource for my Google Home automation. Luckily I get the best of both worlds but you can’t go wrong with either. Both phones are incredible and I enjoy both equally, but I do prefer the Pixel devices ultimately because the software experience is so good! I got the Pixel Watch and gave my Apple Watch SE to my Wife who's rocking the iPhone 14 Pro and really enjoy Google's watch. I would say for me my struggle is getting everyone over to messaging and video calling me on apps like Signal or Telegram. Many people have Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp but I really don't like the quality of the video calling and my friends say the same. Google Meet is really the only thing that comes close to FaceTime so that's been an enjoyable experience so far!

Great video! Also if you account for international pricing (at least Europe, but I think other areas have the same) the Pixel is massively cheaper... The iPhone 14 Pro Max 128GB MSRP here is 1449€ vs only 899€ for the Pixel 7 Pro 128GB, so it's a no brainer really unless you're stuck in the Apple ecosystem

I also recently just switched from the iPhone 14 Pro Max to the Google Pixel 7 Pro. Clearly the iPhone has the edge on some features but there's just something about the way that Google Pixel makes everything fit together more. It's hard to describe. I used to think totally differently but now it feels like Android as overtaken iOS not just in the number of features but in the smooth and effective implementation of those features. Now the iPhone software feels like it's just trying to catch up to Android.

I switched from a Galaxy S9+ to the Pixel 7 Pro. I know it's not a fair comparison seeing the age of my previous phone, but the difference in software 'feel' and how it works with the hardware is just super refreshing. My S9+ had so much Samsung bloatware, and what now feels like 'unnecessary' integrations with their features like Bixby. The Pixel just works and does everything really well. Its super smooth, very reliable, lightweight and gives a lot more user freedom which is what you want from an Android device.

This has to be the most unbiased review of phones that there is out there. I really like your approach of not trying to prove that one is better than the other when they are both superior pieces of technology that have their own features that they excel at which is one of the best reasons to base one’s choice on. I am an iPhone user because it’s what I’m most comfortable with and I like the design of the operating system and camera in general but there sure are some nice aspects to android that I wish I had. I think if I had the money I would consider owning the Pixel 7 Pro in addition to my iPhone 13 Pro Max and be able to play with both of them perhaps switching on different days or maybe sometimes carrying both but just experiment with the experience of enjoying the superior aspects of one of them some of the time and pick up the other one whenever the mood strikes.

I just can't go to apple, the most basic features are missing. I'm talking about android, windows mobile features from like 2008. You can't go back easily or customize the back button which means ergonomically you are forced to use the phone one way which makes the phone a badly designed tool off the bat. Also the new iPhone 14 pro crops photos from live view totally WTF in 2022? This is a deal killer. Lastly the widget customization is limited at best, which means you lose effectiveness which just takes away from the IoS anesthetics and makes it less useful for power users. One side note, you can't click on the middle of words, at least not easily if it does exist. Which means you need to fully retype words always. Why?

Hi Mike, great comparison. I've not been on iPhone since I switched to Google's Nexus then Pixel. I'm now on Pixel 7 Pro and the main reason is I'm on Google ecosystem everywhere even on my MacBook. But you forgot one important point, it's the resale value you sacrifice on Android. Even with the Pixel, it doesn't come close to the resale value of iPhone. Customers need to think about the actual cost of usage, like for a car, and not the initial acquisition price. If you upgrade phone often like every one or two years, the net cost of ownership will be far cheaper with iPhone even if you paid an heavier price when buying new; because the resale value is much better (or the depreciation is much less if you prefer). The real cost of the difference between initial acquisition cost and price of resale on the second market (minus also cost of maintenance but that's more for cars than smartphones). There's always a big demand and market for even a 3 years old iPhone. Not so much for any Android, including high end Samsung or Pixel.

Which conversely means that you can get a 1 year old Android for much less money than a 1 year old iPhone. My friend just bought a Samsung Galaxy 21FE for $350 very slightly used. That's a really good price for a phone that blows most $400 devices out of the water, save for maybe the Pixel 6A. Here's the problem. You're running Android with a Mac. If you think you're going to get any semblance of integration with "hostile platforms" from an idevice... you're not. A *MUCH* better and tighter experience if you use Windows. EG. Nearby Share, Your Phone, etc. etc. For Samsung, it's better, as they have things like DEX / Flow and other continuity solutions for Macs. Yes, you'd have to change up a lot... but Android in general is known for being better at tailoring to your behaviors. Better widget support and placement, better workflow than just "apps on a launcher"

I stick with Android in general because of the ecosystem - my work requires Windows, so I use Windows at home as well, which means no Apple laptop and therefore no Apple anything. On the other hand, I might stick with Android anyhow because I have a real problem (and it is more a gut reaction than a reasoned out reaction) with the closed nature of Apple products. I guess I'm just a rebel at heart and never really got over the 60s lol. I stick with Pixel (I have owned a Pixel since the first generation) because I like getting plain Android, no bloatware from Samsung or others. Not that Samsung doesn't have some very nice features, but not worth it to me. The integration with the phone is why I will probably buy a Pixel watch for my next watch when it is time instead of sticking with Samsung (currently wearing Galaxy Watch 3).

Agreed. People make too much fuss - it's a tool. Somewhere in there brand loyalty turned into a thing - neither are perfect, and some things one does way better than the other. I've gone back and forth between the two as well. iPhone's integration wins hands down - which makes sense because of the control over the ecosystem. The openness of the Android platform, and Google's specific control over its Pixels make them fantastic! Unfortunately, there's no mash up of the two cause that'd really be a perfect phone.

It's a tool, except you have to consider what platform you're choosing and how it affects the world's ecosystem. Have you ever considered why hosting a few MB of files costs developers 30%, or why HDMI adapters for idevices are $60+ (I get ~2 to 6 of them for that price depending on where I buy) Or that all devices and cables have to be certified (I find it hilarious that battery packs that advertise that they're for iDevices still use microusb/type C because of the "apple tax")? Are you okay with their outright lies in advertising (most egregious: the siri ads) and press releases (privacy? LOOOOL)? Or how anti-3rd party repair they are? Or how they're okay with slowing down your phone due without telling you why so you just buy a new $1000+ phone instead of a $50 battery replacement? As a owner of the S22 Ultra, I'd really like to see a good comparison to the Pixel 7 Pro. I personally think those are the 2 best Android devices currently

I’m waiting for vid like “Pixel 7 Pro vs S22 Ultra vs iPhone 14 Pro photo zoom battle”. Zoom perfectly shows us the details.

Welcome back to the Android family. For transporting files and things between Mac and Pixel, while Android File Transfer is a surefire way to go, I think the app AirDroid would help. Also, there are cases like one from Encased, or the magnetic ring from Spigen that makes MagSafe technology compatible with devices that don't have it built in.

오호?! 픽셀로 진짜 바꾸셨네~ 몇달 후 실사용 후기 기대해봄~~~ Good clip and I personally agree your last and main opinion. Do not have to be too defensive, it's just smart phone and every one has there own interests. I had been using iPhone while living in USA (almost 10years), and after back to Korea, I'm switching Samsung and now using Z Fold3 because I love big screen and multitasking (esp playing mobile games), and Samsung Pay (I'm not using anymore my wallet since around 4 years ago). I will wait your next "Real Review of using Pixel around N month later".

I like that in your reviews you actually do sound very impartial/fair and leave it to the viewer to make a personal choice. I was a Samsung owner for 7 years and switched to the iPhone 14 pro max. I am loving it so far. For me, the most significant difference is on how great the apps work on iPhone. They're just more refined. I only miss the 100x zoom of the Samsung, yet iPhone takes great video. Cheers.

pixel 7 pro has much better AI and transcription and translation plus better editing for picture and AI options for calling. Google beats apple when it comes to software imo but Apple definitely best in hardware and software to hardware optimization.

I was an Android user for years and now the last 2 years an iphone user. The main thing for me has been the notifications. The way iOS handles these is absolutely horrible. I have never missed more notifications than since switching to the iphone. Always on now helps a bit. But it just stays really annoying as how apple handle these vs android. I really do miss android there.

Totally agree. Android wins here! Notifications just horrible on iOS

I agree. Switched to iPhone and Apple Watch a year ago. The watch makes the notifications even worse. Got rid of the watch fast. My iPhone 14 Pro paired with a Withings Scanwatch reduced that notification pain a lot.

@@sachern also Always on Display doesn’t look like Always because there are bigger icons. Android have smaller and more. Clean and simple.

Nice, fair commentary, thank you! I have an iPhone 13 pro Max, which I purchased early this year, and I recently purchased a Pixel 7 pro: I love both of them and will keep and use both.

Hellow! Need a suggestion mate. I need to upgrade my phone. But i'm really confused which phone is really perfect for me! Especially for photography and battery backup. So which one i should to buy? 14 pro max or 7 pro??

@@rockersfahad4638 Greetings! To be totally honest, I really can't tell a difference between photos taken on my iPhone 13 pro Max and my Pixel 7 pro; both phones yield stellar results. I don't take a lot of videos, but the consensus opinion is that iPhones produce superior results, if that matters to you. Best of luck choosing a phone: I think with either I've discussed here, you can't go wrong for photography.
