Got an iPhone as a company phone. You put together a great list, the most annoying is the - lack of a proper back button, - the typing experience, the basic keyboard is abhorrent, and once I installed the "same" SwiftKey as I use on Android, and the iOS version is clearly inferior. - the notification system is a lot more refined in Android - quick settings for wifi, BT, NFC and all these are a lot better on Android ..and the list could go on, but these are the worst. So thank you for saving me from having to buy my own iPhone, now I can hate it without wasting my money.

I recently purchased an iPhone 14 after being an Samsung user for years. I wanted to test how *productive* I can be. I used it for an intense two-week long work event and returned to Samsung 22 Plus. I 101% agree with this video. I have the exact same complaints: typing experience, convenience on WhatsApp, screenshots, the fingerprint, and much more. Literally the same complaints. As you say, iPhones are beautiful and they're amazing, but I would say that they are not good devices for *productivity*. I can name a few other examples based on my experience with different apps/uses. Maybe you need a Part 2 for this video! - Outlook: Emails take time to load/update. You cannot attach several documents at the same time to an email. Calendar widget isn't really useful (you can have a widget that shows your agenda for several days on Android, whereas the widget on iPhone is just today). - OneDrive: On Android, if you select a picture o document and share to OneDrive, you can create a folder while doing it. On iPhone you cannot. It also takes longer than Android. - Typing: I would add that it is a bit frustrating having to long-press the space bar to put the cursor in the middle of a word that you want to correct. On Android, one simple tap on the exact spot in the middle of the word does the trick. Google Keyboard predictor is pretty accurate, so you will most likely end up tapping on the correct word. On iPhone, the new word will be -added-, not -replaced-. WHY! - Camera: On Samsung, the camera app recognizes that you have a document and it activates a "T" option to scan it and save it. On iPhone, for some annoying reason, this option is under Files. I discovered it by accident... Not so intuitive, in my opinion. - Battery: I have heard that iPhones last longer, but that's not my experience. I have never had to rush for juice while using my Samsung, no matter how much I use it. - Music and Video: I didn't know that you cannot easily play music files (unless you buy music). On Samsung, if you have mp3 and mp4 files, you can just play them in its native Music and Video apps. They are very convenient. On Video, you can adjust the volume and bright on the screen side, rewind and fast-forward with a swipe, and play on a window. This didn't seem possible on iPhone. - Calculator: Samsung's calculator is AMAZING. It's just not a basic calculator, but also compares measurements for temperature, height, weight, mass, area, etc. It's super useful for international environments. No need to Google anymore. - Alarm: On iPhone, you only have two options: Ringer and Silent (and you have to go to Settings to change Silent to vibrate or not vibrate). I really struggled with the fact that the Ringer volume is the same as the Alarm volume. I don't want my call ringtone to be as loud as my alarms'. On Android, you have different volume settings for notifications, calls, system and alarm. - Other settings: I travel a lot and I noticed that Location services stay on on iPhone when activating Airplane Mode. I don't know if drains the battery, but you have to go to Settings to deactivate it. On Android that's just a swipe on the Notification Panel at the top, and a couple of taps. - Animations: On iPhone, animations are beautifuuuuuul, but they're very slow. You can do things much faster on a regular Samsung phone. - Screen: This is entirely personal, but a Samsung screen is significantly brighter and more vibrant than an iPhone's. It's a joy to watch videos and play games occasionally on a Samsung phone. I can go on, but I'll stop, haha! I guess if you are an iPhone user, you most likely have been using Apple for a long time and you are just familiar with it. But Android gives people so many possibilities to be more productive and efficient.

Picked up an iPhone 14, really tried my best to love it because it's a fantastic device, but once you've become accustomed to Android, everything on iOS feels like an extra couple steps or there isn't any support for it. FINALLY someone made a video about these things!!!! Thank you! Three more annoying things - (1) File Management and contextual implementation is an absolute nightmare. You don't see a storage view like you do in Android, so managing and finding specific items very easily is a time consuming hassle, especially when you want to edit files on the go. (2) App settings cannot be accessed simply through app icons. You have to go in settings, then scroll down to apps and then change the settings. An unnecessary 3 step process which could have been 1 step. (3) Wifi Bluetooth toggles don't turn the service on or off, they simply turn the connection on or off. The service still keeps running and eating battery. In android, tapping on the toggle means the service will be off. The only positive with iOS right now is app compatibility. Most developers can take advantage of standard iOS libraries to develop robust apps since they have to design for fewer models. On Android, developers have to be generic with app designs most times, because there are thousands of models with different screen ratios and spectrum of OSs to choose from and hence the bugs. As frustrating as it can be to experience app crashes and bugs on Android, it's nowhere near experiencing the level of counter-intuitive user experiences on iOS.

This is actually a fantastic review, the best one I've seen out of hundreds online. You actually brought up that the keyboard can be remedied in 1 minute with GBoard, which I hate and is a pure disservice when people don't do, but then brought up you actually still don't find that quick remedy as sufficient. THAT is actual, real, good content. For someone in Europe, can you cover how various translation services work between the two? Is it also just a matter of installing Google Translate app on iPhone, and using photo translations ala Google Lens in Apple's camera service?

So true. Hope Apple will implement BACK button one day. But that's unlikely
@eclipticpath
@eclipticpath Жыл бұрын
@@xartius I doubt they will add a back button, since it's so difficult to make consistent for exiting, changing tabs, scrolling to top, refreshing feeds etc.. On Android the back button is probably the most unconsistent UI feature. I think of it like a little scroll wheel for typing. Sure it's lots simpler, especially for one handed use to have one little wheel to browse through the letters, whereas on iOS there's so many different ways to get back, like a keyboard with many buttons. But once you get used to keyboard, it's difficult to get back to typing with a universal scroll wheel. On Android, the back button -exits the app like Play store -refreshes the feed like tiktok. -goes to the top of the feed like ig. -closes the app but only when done twice like Sync. -goes to previous page/tab like in ig, but exists in other apps like jodel. -goes to the top of the feed in one page, but changes to main page from another page like in ig -first scrolls to top then exists, like reddit, and this function is in every tab -on one tab it scrolls, on other tab it changes tab, like on ig -on some apps it either exists or don't depending if you opened the app from a notification or icon, like reddit -depending on app, it either goes to previous app, or goes back on the same app -Then in apps like tiktok, the back gesture changes to main page and refreshes the feed at the same time, so one must be careful to not press it to not accidentally refersh the feed. On iOS, there's one consistent function for all of those different types of "back" functions instead of one button for all. For example, to get to the top of the page on any app, you press the task bar. To get to the app you came from, you press the back to last app link on top corner. To refresh feed, you drag it, to close app, you swipe it away from bottom, to change tabs, you press the tabs. And gestures are added more usually with according animations. For example, since the spotify player appears from the bottom, it makes sense that you can swipe it away to swiping it back to bottom, and you indeed can, on iOS. On Android you can't. Or when opening a photo, you should be able to swipe it away, no matter if you're on Photos app, Instagram or Pinterest. And that's how it works on iOS, though not on Android.

I think in the USA the main advantage of iPhone is iMessage (the standard texting/messaging app over here whether we like it or not), FaceTime, and AirDrop. Because the majority of people here have iPhones, these features really become pretty useful. However, in a vacuum, the device by itself, I think Android is still superior, especially for power users that want an extra layer of customization. For instance, I work in SaaS engineering/DevOps, and work in MS Teams quite a bit. I have a different notification sound for each Teams channel. I have probably 30-40+ channels I actively work in, yet some require greater urgency than others. Knowing which channel/chat is updated simply by hearing a specific sound is simply a quality of life feature that I can't give up.

I made the mistake of buying an iPhone for the first time last year. (Been using this phone for 9 months now.) I bought the iPhone 14 promax and boy oh boy did I regret it almost instantaneously. I tried to return the phone, but I just missed the 14 day return window. 😭😭 There are so many” little” things that end up making using this phone a horrible experience. Here’s examples in no particular order. One super annoying feature is the fact that you’re ring volume, notification volume and alarm volume are all linked in one!! So if I don’t want my alarm to blast in the morning, I have to turn my ringer down. But if I forget to turn my ringer up, I might miss calls and vice versa. I also noticed that when you put the phone on silent mode, all of your games are suddenly muted, and you don’t hear the music that goes to the games. Another horrible feature is that when you’re on a call and you’re getting a bunch of text messages in the background, it dings audibly every time a message comes in. I was in a group chat and trying to talk to someone on the phone and it was a nightmare!! An android will simply buzz in the background. Also, as I’m trying to write this comment with the voice feature using the iPhone., per usual, the phone types a bunch of nonsense, and is not nearly as accurate as an android. Something about the software used for voice to text just does not understand context at all!!! Trying to convert music into a ringtone, takes about 13 steps, using GarageBand vs on an android, if you use zedge, you simply select download or “set as notification/ringtone”. That’s it! ONE TOUCH. Another super annoying feature is that most of the time when you highlight a word, and want to select all of the content, there is not a feature to “select all”. On an android this feature pops up every time. You also cannot set multiple timers to my knowledge which I need a lot, especially when I’m cooking multiple things at once. You have to download an app for that and most of the time when you download an app from the App Store you have to pay a bunch of money!! You also can’t “dismiss” alarms. Dismissing an alarm silences the alarm without turning off the alarm for the next time it’s set to be used . You can turn your alarm OFF but if you forget to turn it back on then you’re up S#!+$ creek. I’ve also noticed that the Apple store doesn’t offer certain apps, such as RT news or even US based conservative news. So it seems they want to be political and simply do not offer the option for users to get their news from whatever source they choose. The phone does not come with a charger so you will have to buy one even though you have already spent $12-$1400 on the phone. And there’s no 3.5mm headphone jack. There is ZERO deep customization on an iPhone as it pertains to anything including how you want to set up your apps on your homepage. Everything must fall into rows, so if you’d like to have your apps, laid out a certain way with maybe a few apps in the top left corner you can’t do that. If you have an Apple Watch, you can use it with an android but if you have an android watch, you cannot use it with an iPhone. They make sure that pretty much nothing is compatible with anything except for other Apple products. Of course Apple has a great ecosystem because you CAN’T use anything else!! The list goes ON AND ON. EVERYTHING you do on an iPhone takes extra steps. I spent $1400 outright on my 256 GB 14 promax and I regret it everyday. I will NEVER buy another iPhone. I know this is a lot, but if I can save someone from buying a really expensive POS than writing This comment is worth it. If you are an android user, please don’t buy an iPhone or you will seriously regret it.

Never have i ever seen a video showing just what it means to switch from handset to another like you just did. It really is the 'little things' and people don't just get it you know. I haven't finished the video and i've already thought of a number of people to share this with for reference's sake. By far one of the best videos i've seen on the two. Don't get me wrong Apple is alright with their nifty features that standout but when it comes to the everyday things that make a phone 'a phone', apple just falls behind and sadly these are things that have been present for years i don't think they'll ever change. But thats just my own opinion. Theres things the other community do not really find amusing about Android and thats okay.

One thing they need to improve is listening to customers. Which is something Apple haven't ever done since I was working on Apple Macintosh in the 80s. They don't care. Which is also why they've been refusing to fix simple phone problems and suggesting people just buy a new phone.

@@EugeniaLoli Honestly, every basic android is having this functions nowadays so it is a basic functionality. My old Samsung J2016, a very basic low end phone, had similar functionality like a current iPhone. But it had not that back button issue, so was even better in that matter than an iPhone. Glad I stayed with the s23+ and haven't switch to iPhone 14. What an downgrade that would be!

Owning an iPhone may feel great because of how over-hyped it is as a 'luxury' product - but given its poor functional experience, I really find it a weak smartphone. As I said in the video, I do give it to iOS for its optimization, performance, battery life, OS support and ecosystem - but those aren't the only things that defines majority of the experience for majority of the people.

As I usually say, iPhones do get great battery life but at the expense of features, functionalities and automation. Also iOS is extremely single-task oriented. No split screen, no popup app view, no background running full apps, background downloads barely work as expected and get immensely slowed down... it's kinda kinda easy to get great battery life if the whole OS is in sleep mode except the app you are looking at right now

I am happy someone finally made a video on "the list". Otherwise all we see are comparisons on specs, hardware and the final outcomes. But how each OS gets to the final outcome (wrt taps and swipes) is what the user experience is about and no one ever made a crib-video on it, finally I saw yours and found peace 😂 I switched back to Android btw

I can't believe someone finally made a video about these issues. I also have a lot of things of my own which freak me out on iOS, in addition to all your mentioned ones: 1. NOTIFICATIONS. The first and most important thing for me. There are few things about Apple's, I can say, horrible, notifications system which freak me out: 1.1. Notifications of chats are upside down. All Apple notifications display by default: Top = New, Old = Bottom. It is a horrible way to read chats in the notifications, it's not logical, it should be the other way around, like the chats are actually displayed in the apps. On Android it's not like that and I've been using iOS for 2 years and I still can't (and won't) get used to that. 1.2. There's no hierarchy of important and unimportant notifications. They are all the same size and shown all together without any separation. (I know there's the Notification Center, but I'll talk about it in the next chapter.) On Android you have separation for silent notifications which show on the bottom, and they are smaller in size, while the important ones are bigger and on the front. Makes it much easier to not miss the important ones and read notifications more easily. 1.3. Notification Center is useless. Why do I need a separate place which is separated (And sometimes hidden) with Notifications that I haven't removed before? Just keep showing me the important notifications on front, I sometimes found myself missing notifications like that. 1.4. Notifications don't expand long enough; I can't read longer Emails / messages like I can on Android. And it looks messy, the bold fonts blend too much with the regular ones, which doesn't look organized enough in my opinion. Not enough separation. 2. Keyboard Swipe (or how they call it, QuickPath). I know it has swipe on English, but for me it actually worked quite well. But the problem is, their supported languages. After years of it being introduced it still lacks A LOT of languages, which Google's (and Samsung's) keyboard had FOR YEARS already. I am waiting so many time for them to add Hebrew and Russian support, which are two of the most used languages for me after English. I know they are trying to be 'the best' when they introduce features and they want them to work properly, but Apple, that's just been too much time. Cmon'. 3. File Management. 3.1. I know Apple file management sucks, but it sucks even more that you can't access ANY of your files on your iPhone from the computer, even if they are saved on your iPhone's memory and not iCloud. It just baffles me. Is it a security thing? Well, the files are on your iPhone internal storage anyways, let me see them on my computer and transfer it for god's sake. 3.2. I hate how the Photos and Files are separated. It doesn't feel like it's on the same device even though they are on both on my iPhone's internal storage. It's not even like that on Mac, you can't see any file structure of your internal storage. I get they are trying to be secure, but this separation and lack of a proper storage management, is just a pure pain. 4. App Library. 4.1. Why for god's sake, can't I order the app library as I want? Why do I have to be forced with the order of apps Apple makes for me? Nobody at Apple thought that their order may not be fitting for anyone? I often find myself asking people around if they actually use the App Library and all the people I asked, at least, said they NEVER use it. And for a reason. 4.2. Why do I have to make several interactions to enter the App Library list of all my apps? First, I have to swipe all the way to the App Library, which may be few swipes depending on your home screens amount. Second, I have to swipe down again to access it. Too many interactions to access it. 5. Home Screen. One of the most annoying things for me, is the lack of ability to place the apps the way I want on the home screen. They always order themselves from top-left to bottom-right automatically. Absolutely no way to disable it. On Android I could add a small clock widget for example on top, and row of apps on the bottom to be more accessible one-handedly. I always have to make compromises in my home-screen organizations because of iOS' limitations. I'm sure there are some more minor things that I may have missed, but that's about the most important ones for me, after being a lifetime Android user and iPhone 12 being my first Apple device ever, which I've been using already for 2 years.

Be wary about Samsung as well. In February 2023 I had a galaxy S4, S6 edge and S10, all do unauthorised updates and all became bricks. Two won't even turn on and the S10 just flashes a green screen at me, with absolutely no screen touch functionality. In December 2022, over 200,000 phones in Australia had this happen to them, and the best Samsung suggested was for a factory reset. None of my phones will factory reset, and apart from that, people have lost all information from personal videos, photos, documents, contacts, accounts etc. The original purchase prices for my phones now total $2650 in damage due to updates. I've had enough of the BS from Samsung, and now use a Oppo A57, and to be quite honest, for $219au , I regret ever wasting my money on Samsung products. My S10 cost me $1300 new and is just a paperweight now. Samsung is way over priced and the only drawback with the Oppo A57 is a slight delay starting up new apps. You also have to enable USB adapters via system settings whereas the Samsung was automatic.

I think Apple is an aesthetic thing. I mean, Samsung has tried for years to replicate Apple's UI... they are pretty close to it with the one UI, but it will never be the same bc Samsung phones in general come with 3 competing ecosystems pre-installed: samsung, google, microsoft.... whereas Apple offers everything with iOS. There is a huge benefit to having a closed-off strict operating system, that doesn't allow 3rd party customization.

Handling files is a real nightmare. I had a problem with uploading photos and videos from newest iPhone to PC through USB cable recently. It shows unnecessary files or additional photo versions (which must take more memory), mixes files order or doesn't show some files at all until like third plugging. There's no way to see the size of numerous selected files (at least not on iPhone 7 I'm using, on others there might be but only by adding them to separate folder). The difference between All photos app and Files/Folders is perplexing. I don't know how it works but I can delete or edit a video/photo on All photos app after transporting it to a folder yet it still exist in the original form in the folder. How much memory does it take then?

Just a tip, iPhone uses a mix of buttons and gestures. Don’t see the back button? Swip from left to right like you do on Samsung when gestures are enabled. The hard part of going to an iPhone is that not everything is consistent across the entire phone. I still learn new stuff all the time, like holding the space bar lets you move the text cursor anywhere you want easily and quickly.

These are all on the point. I have been using both iPhone & Samsung for past 3.5 years now and I agree with each and every point. The iPhone slows me down noticeably doing literally the easiest tasks. Few more things to add to your points are the pathetic notification management on iOS, one the most annoying thing being the notification pop-up that never goes away or takes ages to go away when you're working on another app. Secondly, no split screen where Samsung is the king.

That’s the first fair review with real things missing in iPhone, not some bullshit about not being able to move icons or personalize it so much, great work

for selecting multiple items you can just use two fingers! I feel like you just miss the hold gesture because its different, I really love being able to hold down on things on my iPhone to get an additional context menu! a lot of this is just different workflow preferences that you get used to in your first OS, but different isn't always worse, it's just not what you're used to.

You can't use that two finger gesture on all apps. Just on native apple apps. Try doing that on Gmail...or WhatsApp..or telegram. It's not as rosy as you think.

@@mobiscrub i personally don’t find that to be apple’s fault but i understand that that is definitely something you’d have to get used to, you make a fair point

@@GavHern nothing is Apples fault. Samdung fanboys just don't know how to use a superior product. Iphones are the best. I would never use a Samdung. All my friends used iphone and I won't be made fun of for using a Samdung.

Another amazing review. This video truly explains the the limitations between both devices. Mostly Apple. As a recent Apple user turn android I do miss some things from Apple but extremely satisfied with my S23 Ultra. Why do I love the fact that you are reviewing an iPhone but using a Samsung Watch 5 pro. Absolutely amazing. You videos/ reviews are fire 🔥

This is just the info I needed. I haven't had an iphone since the iphone 3G. I was thinking about giving the 14 pro max a try but I needed to know the main differences. So I'll just get the s23 ultra like I originally planned on doing.

@shomari17 , it's amazing. I'm coming from Note 9 - the photo and video quality are of the rocket. It's amazingly fast. The new UI is packed with nice stuff also. It seamlessly connects with my tablet, TV, and Windows PC. The finger and face recognition work very well. Multitasks like a breeze. Though I do drain the battery faster than I expected lol But also, I have it limited to charge only to around 85%.
