How I Make Radio Sweepers, DJ Drops and Podcast IDs

www.musicradioc... This is an example of the decision making process I go through when putting together creative audio. In this case it's a podcast jingle with multiple sfx and vocal fx in the multitrack of Adobe Audition CS6.

I really admire how brave you are by revealing how you do things in CS6. All audio producers are quite hesitant in doing so. If I were to do a tutorial, I'd teach almost everything, but not all. That's just me. :)

Depends how loud the crowd is. A gate may work (I show this on my channel) but if background noise is loud it will be tough.

Use the white triangle in the top corners of a multitrack waveform. There is a tutorial about time stretching on my channel - check it out!

Mike, could you explain how would you go about finalizing/mastering your sweepers/jingles etc.? Do you just normalize at the the end or do hard limiting. When I play my jingles on radio, they sound awful. Too strong and distorting. While I make them, it sounds fine. It seems like our processor/stereo coder just mangles audio on the way out. Limiter broke down so we are forced to work without one. Also, are you satisfied with those HS50M's? Sorry for such a lenghty post :)

Interesting subject on the topic of what to charge. I chat about pricing a little in episode 3 of the Music Radio Creative podcast ( jngl dot es slash mrc003 ). I think price perception has much to do with the point you choose to sell at. In other words don't price so low that customers will perceive your product as low quality. Test different price points and see what works best for your product. Good luck!

Hi Mike, on the topic of sweepers, jingles and VO lines I've only recently started producing them on a freelance basis for money. I have certainly noticed a spark of interest but one thing I am unsure of is how exactly to price my work. People are often shocked at my prices (Claiming then to be lower than expected) and I feel I may be undercharging yet I'm not sure what an acceptable price for this work really is when it's on a smaller scale basis. Any tips?
