Great info Mike, I will give Cast King a try. I am hard on equipment so most of time I buy the more expensive equipment. I get disappointed in some of the end stuff.

Their low end stuff really stands out against other low end stuff, but I don’t feel that their higher end stuff is any different than like priced reels out there. To be fair I only tried one of their $180-$200 reels. Thanks brother!

I almost forgot! I have been using one of their $40 spinning reels on a slow pitch jigging rod for the same amount of time and it’s been really good. It’s absolutely the same quality as most $150 reels. I forget the model, but it’s black with the spider web looking cut out pattern on the spool.

Years ago I purchased 6 Diawa accudepth line counter reels, a couple more and then 6 Okuma Magda line counter reels. Back then they were around $50-$60. Just a weekend fisherman fresh water striper fishing at Smith Mtn lake at that time. Put all of them on Ugly stick rods. I have caught countless fish on those set-ups, beat them up pretty good. I have replaced a couple rods due to breaking guides but the reels just keep working well. Thing is, I moved to the NC coast 10 years ago, I have purchased expensive spinning rod set-ups for inshore fishing and nice set-ups for shark fishing. But, those same line counter reels are used every year trolling for spanish mackrel and slow trolling live bait for bull reds. I rinse them down with fresh water after every trip. Then just change the leaders and tackle when I am going on a fresh water striper trip. I have been thinking about setting up 4 trolling rods for my coastal fishing and just put those cheap set-ups aside for the striper trips. But they just work and cheap to replace if needed. Thing is, I just like the line counter reels for trolling, helpful with planer boards but also helpful with controlling position of lure behind the boat with downriggers.

Once you find something that you have total faith in DONT change a thing. 😉 After you reach “total faith” you can only screw it up from there 😜. When it comes to reels like your line counters everything boils down to what alloys your gears are made of. Cheaper reels often use two different types of metals. Usually a combination of bronze and brass. The main gear will be a harder alloy and the pinion gear will be a softer alloy. After just a few big fish the pinion gear starts to round its teeth off against the harder main gear. I had a bunch of Shakespeare Tide Waters many years ago because it’s all I could afford. I got ONE season out of them and they ALL took a poop in the bed at nearly the same time. Those dang pinions went totally round. It sounds like your reels, although inexpensive, are engineered with “like”metals between the two gears. They can pretty much last forever if maintained. 👍 Thanks for sharing your experience brother!!! I appreciate your support!! 🙏

Never thought they would hold up this long and defiantly didn't expect them to hold up after I started using them in saltwater 10 years ago. Thing is, with todays products, I could probably buy the same reels today and they wouldn't last 2 seasons. Good part is, I don't care if they break next week while trolling, will give me a better reason to upgrade!

Good question. I don’t know really. I honestly thought it would all be over way before that. I think abusing it sets it apart, makes it stand out a bit. I kind of feel that any reel will be fine with basic maintenance, and it certainly wouldn’t be very interesting, but what if we abused them? I don’t think anyone would be impressed with a reel that worked fine with basic maintenance over 2 years. 😂😂.

@@ronenglish1407 The reel in this video has 8 or 9 bearings too. They have to be stainless to look this good after salt baths. That outer bearing would have shut down after the second dunk. 8-10 Stainless bearings often account for 3/4 of the price so I don’t know how they still make money off of these things. I used a Bass pro shops branded catfish reel in salt once. ONCE. A week later the reel was nearly locked completely down. It never really got that wet, but it was all over just the same.

I had a completely different experience when I tried out a KastKing Kapstan Elite 300. To put it in perspective, I have a mix of over 50 rod/reel setups - everything from Abu Garcia, Shimano, Daiwa, Quantum, Okuma, Penn. So I thought I'd try an affordable KastKing since I provide everything to my friends when we go out. If a sub $100 reel would work I wouldn't have to worry so much about one of the newbies dropping them into the lake, fubar'ing them etc. The Elite 300 was TERRIBLE. My cheap old quantum's (from the 90's) outperformed them and couldn't get close to the others so I sold them on marketplace for $20. What model was that you were using because maybe they've gotten better since 2020? (The best IMO are the Shimano Tranx / Grapplers - Japanese version- w/ Abu Revo's in 2nd but they are expensive)

Great information brother!! I’ve seen them around a lot, but never knew anyone that had used them. Do they cast well? Are the drags steady and consistent? Those Abu’s have horrendous drags. It’s a constant “LOAD AND RELEASE” “LOAD AND RELEASE”. You know what I mean. Rod bouncing up and down when drag pays out. Thanks!!
