Same. I'm more of a defensive oriented guy myself, but I also like Makashi because I used to fence and it reminds me of it.
@Welther474 ай бұрын
@@paulielamothe4134 I know it's all fun and games; why I'm here myself. But there really isn't defense in swordfighting. You defend with a shield. There is attack and parry - and a parry is not a defense, it's trying to create an opening, and if you don't cease on that, then you are behind. 1:19 is a good example of movie-fighting, fighting the weapon, not the person. 3:02 look how they are not threatening each other, they are just bashing the saber out of the way. But books have been written about this and still are.
@maradon._.Ай бұрын
@@Welther47 i know what you mean and this is an argument commonly brought up. Two things to consider: 1. You say it looks like movie fighting - that's because it is. No one is seriously saying that lightsaber fencing would make you win a fight on a battlefield or something. It's meant to look flashy and sharp and cool, which it does if you do it fast enough. 2. As already said in the Shi-Cho tutorial, these defensive jedi-like fight styles never aimed at straight up killing your opponent. A proper jedi took his adversary keptive and didnt just murder him (like anakin did to dooku).
@Welther47Ай бұрын
@@maradon._. My point still stands. You are dancing around the bush. I know it stage-fighting, but it doesn't have to look like it. And to point two; killing or not is not the point.

As a student of historical swordsmanship I see issues with using these forms for real combat, however, these are quite nice looking for choreography. Fast, intense, purposeful. They appear to have bad intentions so it sells well to an audience. Too many lightsaber or sword choreography videos look like they don't want to hit one another. These do. Although some strikes look intended for the weapon most seem to be aiming at the body and that's what makes screen fights look more real. I like it. Good job.

I already have prior training with a lightsabre, but thanks to your videos and how the break each form into it's fundamentals I've come to develop (I can hardly say I invented it, but I wasn't formally taught) what I call "Form 2.5" - a mix of Makashi moves for offense and Soresu for defence. Of course, they aren't perfect copies of either form, the trick is the stances and moves to be slightly tweaked so one can instantly transition between the two as the tide of combat flows, but, again, this was made far easier by being able to reference your videos instead of having to do everything from muscle memory.

Form III: it seems you trained with master depa bilaba No guys I’m kidding 😂 Form III: this form was invented for defense, specifically against blaster bolt like mentioned in the video. The idea is to have the best defense which puts opponents on offense, thus lowering their defenses. The spinning in the blade work allows all parts of the body to make the best defense possible. We’ve all seen kenobi shine when using this form! These videos are incredible by the way! And I love how the purpose of the forms creation was also mentioned, that can really help someone learn it!

one thing i have seen alot is that people will use form III and incorporate the obi-ani move as it not only misdirects their opponents but also works to help ready up for a defensive measure.
