I'd put my confidence down to 2 things, one is going to the gym, but the main one is working in customer service for 4 years. I was incredibly underconfident in school and the start of college, but you have no idea how well picking up a phone and chatting with a random stranger over and over again helps at parties. Was the worst thing ever at first, but I wouldn't be as confident as I am now without it

Great video. Honestly, the quickest way ANYONE can become more confident is improving their appearance (gym/diet/clothes). If you look better, you are going to FEEL better. And when you look better, how people interact with you will be more positive, which in effect will give you even more confidence. I always say this to every single person who is down in life - EXERCISE. It's amazing how often depression tends to coincide with people who are physically inactive. Not that exercise would cure all ills of their life, but the physical, mental and social benefits of it are simply invaluable. Nailed it on putting oneself in uncomfortable situations too. I suffered from terrible social anxiety in my teens and early 20's. Was petrified of being in public or interacting with anyone beyond family. What helped me was getting a job, scary as that initially was. There's nowhere to hide at work. You are constantly around customers and employees alike and you have no choice but to communicate. It helped my social skills enormously. Really brought me out of my shell.

This is so true, especially with what foods you eat, not only affect your diet but your skin too, e.g. eating takeaway all the time and you'll have greasy skin, & feeling tired & bloated. I've started to cook my own meals & I notice the difference, moreso as you know what you're eating. Definitely helps to dress well & take pride in your appearance, if you live in a hot country, get out into the sun & enjoy life, start feeling confident in yourself :)

One thing I would add is your posture, and your walk. When I go for a walk, which I did a lot of in the pandemic, I thought about it as ‘practicing’ walking. Think about how you hold yourself, and walk tall. Head up, back straight, shoulders back. All that stuff. It helps.

As an ACE personal trainer for many years (many years ago), I found that many bodybuilders and those consumed with the gym usually had self-esteem issues. They felt they needed the approval and admiration of people they didn't know. Their minds didn't match their bodies. I believe a healthy mind is as important as a healthy body, and I question the motivation of those who obsess about fitness. I also noticed that most bodybuilders are single. I wonder why? No disrespect here, just observation.
@MrWs6pilot3 жыл бұрын
Honestly bodybuilding is itself a very all-consuming, self centered activity. You have to train perfectly, eat perfectly, obsess over imbalances, and a lot of your time is spent at the gym or thinking about the gym, with the ultimate goal being to look as shredded as possible with the most muscle possible; so, if you dedicate that all encompassing journey towards seeking the approval of others... you will end up much more self conscious and insecure in the long run. I agree that the health of the mind is just as important as the body! Not enough focus is placed on mindset these days, people are given pills and 30 minute long chats to soothe their minds when really it should be a daily priority to find happiness in your activities and consider why and for whom you dedicate your time to them. Confidence is internal people! You will not attain confidence no matter what you look like if you keep the same shitty mindset!
@Emma09883 жыл бұрын
Preach Preach. I think the level of body dsymorphia is skyrocketing. Many guys are so obsessed with outward experience hoping it will make them super happy. Unfortunately that isnt the case. Those hoping to get laid will be shocked they may get more admiration from men than women. If that is what they want, then great.
@MeesterJ3 жыл бұрын

Great observations man... Bodybuilding is both a weird and wonderful thing in my opinion. I love doing it , because 1. Massive game changer socially. 2. You feel like a man... (dont know how else to explain it.) 3. Lifting heavy weights, being strong, looking strong just adds to the benefits. In my case I am 6ft 3 with a decent face. I gained 37lbs from 163 to 200 in a year naturally. The difference was night and day, I had good responses to women... but 35lbs later , women will look at you completely differently. Sometimes its actualy creepy. Now the weird parts. 1. Other gym bros, its bloody weird to be admired by another dude . 2. The drugs and steroids. I credit this for 90% of the weird behavour in the game. As soon as you start lifting, Roidguy will pop up and try sell you roids. Many who take , have no idea about pct, and end up becoming giant girly dudes. Who have high test for 6 weeks then high estrogen. They get very messed up mentalities & esteem issues because of this. 3. The vanity. I do look at myself in the mirrors, but mostly @ Home ! In the gym I get in , pump , get out. It's so sad to see a bunch of dudes lined up infront of the mirror checking their damn glute striations whilst you are trying to deadlift a pr. 4. The minds dont match the bodies is 100%. For some reason serious lifters have extremely little character development. Sort of like some females who live by being a10. They walk around wondering if they are big enough , checking out the biggest dude in the room. Their next meal. Their favourite fitness youtuber and that's it. As for being single , 2 reasons . 1. Most girls are too insecure to date good looking men long term. 2. Lifting is an obsession and we live in our own world, a girl outside fitness wont understand the protein shakes, sleeping , training, greg doucette , and so on. She will see it as vanity which turns off most females .
@ConradMarbourg36353 жыл бұрын
@Matt Rost : I also noticed that most bodybuilders are single. I wonder why? there are many reasons to be single and it does not necessarely caused by low self esteem. I'm single because of very low self esteem, even though I'm ugly and don't have that much choices I did get a few propositions along the years but could not do it as I don't love myself and 1° don't feel like I'm manly enough to be in a relation 2° don't really care either to be in one except from the sex part from times to times. Now regarding my current state of mind, if I was a giga alpha chad 6' + and build like a god, honestly I would stay single as well. If you are on top of the food chain, you have access to the greatest feeling in the world : self respect and peace of mind, you are a god walking amongst mortal. You don't need the approval of other people, you are your own god down approval as you are better than everybody else. I sometimes have a few instant of this feeling in my work, that is the only activity where I got a little genetic advantage and I work a lot (attorney) when I pull a nice reasonning and win arguments in courts or negociation, I have this feeling, I don't really care in that moment about the approval or admiration of other since I know I won. So yeah, imho, being a trash with low self esteem or a huge giga chad with confidence of the god will lead you to the same state of being single as you don't need someone in either case. In the first case, the company of someone will not make you love your own self in the second case what would someone else brings to you that you don't already have that is to say self respect and peace of mind. Just my 2 cents.

The not being comfortable with what you actually do or enjoying it so you can't act confident is so true, doesn't matter how good you look, how jacked you get, if you're not grinding in life apart from that or doing what you love it's impossible to be truly naturally confident I've been bumming around the past few months in uni doing jackshit because online school sucks so even though I've kept improving a ton in the gym and look more jacked than ever and facial care and looking sharp I still don't feel truly inner confidence and calm in uncomfortable conversations or questions like that what do you do for a living

Helps to look like this dude. But in all seriousness, if you get a job in retail, it’s great practice. I used to be an introvert but after I dropped out of college I got a job working at a small retail store. I ended up working in retail sales for the next ten years and during those years I had to talk to and work with all sorts of people from every walk of life. White, black, rich, poor, old, young, disabled, men, women, gay, straight, ugly, beautiful....it didn’t matter. I had to help the customer and sell. It really brought me out of my shell and I learned to speak to people and gain confidence. Soon, I was speaking to rooms full of hundreds of people and giving sales presentations. Get a retail job, not cleaning, not serving coffee, but working with the public. It’s not easy but it will absolutely build your confidence and ability to speak to anyone. Even hot women 😉
