As a cyclist, I feel your anger and it was justified. This has happened to me a few times but Lincolnshire police don't do anything if you report to Operation Snap. You do get a nice automated email. But that is it.

I’m in Lincolnshire and can confirm that they do prosecute, but, sadly, they don’t tell us the result. If you contact Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership they will tell you the result of your report. I’ve reported so many they now send me a spreadsheet 😀 Most have to pay £90 and a day of their time for a course.

They just dont get it, they make next to zero head way, blast along at 30 (in a 20 zone) to just have to stop at the next lights. I live in a rural area and its not much better, on my 30 min commute it takes me only 5 mins longer by bike than by car. There is literally no need to go faster, just sit behind the bike, save fuel and go steady. Sadly Id not be surprised if the idiot driver had already left the country and gone back to Beijing. I once reported a chinese national for driving into me - well, it was his girlfriend / wife who wasnt insured to drive. They drove away and attempted to swap over drivers before returning to the scene but were followed by another motorist who acted as a witness. Cops were talking about prosecuting for perverting the course of justice - case was dropped because they both cleared off back to China.

I WAS doored but I was too young to even know what to do about it. It took me a good 30 seconds to stand back up without falling. He tried to help me to be fair but I was just angry, told him go check his mirrors for things other than cars and proceeded to cycle on. This kind of dangerous driving is the only time I put in reports to the Met usually - I simply don't have time to file reports for mobile phone and ASL offences. If I'm imperilled by a ludicrous pass or a fail to give way, I upload. One question I do have, Mikey is how you decide when to upload. When I get a NIP email from the Met, the text asks me not to upload the footage to avoid jeopardising a trial if it goes to court. But I never hear anything further.

There's nothing wrong with "painted" cycle lanes as long as they are sensibly wide on a wide enough road. Unfortunately if there are a number of cars parked on/in them, then not. You're in the classic position of needing to ride fairly out from the edge & the parked vehicles (to avoid the "door zone") This, of course, then puts you in potential conflict with impatient motorists by taking up this sensible riding position. p.s. This is what I hate about cycle lanes which are painted along beside (outside) parked cars (Lupus Street SW1, Northumberland Avenue WC2 examples) Then motorist EXPECT you to ride in, which is in affect, the "door zone"

That was a deliberate and dangerous act that was forcing a cyclist to take evasive action whilst placing that cyclist (Mikey) at risk of harm. Hopefully the Police see fit to prosecute for driving without due care and attention rather than just a simple driver's education course. Re: the overtaking - I'm forever astounded by drivers who do this at stupid times. The ones that really get me are those who will overtake - then immediately have to pull in by parked cars to let oncoming vehicles through. So I then have to stop when I could have just carried on. Or they'll overtake... then, within seconds, slow down and turn left. I'm no slouch on my bike, and can usually hit 30 on the flat. So I'm in a 30 mph zone, and am just a shade under that... and I'll be overtaken! Why? For what earthly purpose? I guess it's because no driver wants to be seen going slower than a bike!

Are cars allowed to park in the cycle lane? At 0:17 there appears to be a sign that suggest the cycle lane only exists at certain hours, but I can't be sure. I'm glad we have good cycling infrastructure here: almost all town roads have cycle lanes, and on busy roads these lanes will be physically separated from motor traffic where possible. On many narrow country roads, cycle lanes are added leaving only a single lane for car traffic; if oncoming cars want to pass each other, they will have to move into the cycle lanes (and give way to cyclists when doing so). Cycling in the Netherlands is a pretty safe affair as a result, and we managed to make it so without car users having to make too many sacrifices. Both cars and bikes remain a viable mode of transport in our cities.

Honestly there's not much to it, with Met Police you report online through their website under report a traffic incident. Fill in the details, provide a statement explaining what happened and upload the video (they ask for 1 min either side of incident but that's not a strict requirement, I generally provide 40 seconds either side). Usually within a couple of days, but could be longer, you'll be told if a NIP is sent. If you haven't heard from them after two weeks then no action is being taken. You'll only hear more from them if it goes to court.

Hi Mikey, this is the first one you have done where you get a bit cross with a dangerous driver, I am reminded of some of my own experiences, in and around he town where I live there are a lot of narrow streets and bad drivers, I took it upon myself to go on the offensive, in fact some years ago the highways people put up a road sign on on of the city's main roads in warning drivers about dangerous cyclists!, I assume that was because of me. We did not have the sort of body worn camera that you can use now so I did rather overstep the mark a few times, one of my favourites was to strike down hard on the left hand door mirror of any car that came close enough!, no more than one foot away, the result was usually that the mirror broke off and fell in the road!. I can offer no excuse or justification for this and I did not do it often, just that such things happened so often that the frustration boiled over!. Cheers, Richard.

When cycling at speed of traffic I occupy a car space. When cars in front of me pull away, like that Range Rover, I move left to let cars overtake. Mikey's in the wrong here. Then the driver swerves threateningly which is of course even more wrong, and illegal.

Mikey, you did nothing wrong there whatsoever! The driver was ignorant and a self absorbed idiot. This has happenned to me in exactly the same way and I also lost my temper in the same way. Afterall, it is your safety and life that has been threatenned. I hope he gets hauled in to complete a training course for what he did.

I've had the accusation of "swerving all over the road" before from drivers who have tried to "teach me a lesson". They don't realise that a two wheeler is allowed to occupy whatever position is safe to do so within a single lane. A two wheeler also handles very differently from a car which they also don't understand. They can't go in perfectly straight lines the same way that 4 wheelers can.
