I enjoy Sammy's stories but it seems he is always the hero of his own story and i also find it interesting that there is nobody left around to affirm what he is saying in regards to John wanting him to take the weight for everything
@stancurry62652 жыл бұрын
That was always a big thing with me listening to all of this and formulating an opinion. I too enjoyed listening to his podcast but it makes me unable to truely believe him when he’s constantly very blatantly coming out the hero of everything. He also does a little too much of this well known gangster said im that smart or this famous guy said im the embodiment of their thing etc. personalities like that tend to rub me the wrong way. Truth often something in the middle maybe

For me personally, Scars is the most objective and credible guy in this genre. The uninitiated like to claim Franseze is, but he absolutely has an agenda, and completely downplays his cooperation. Mikey, on the other hand, makes no bones at all. I grew up in the south, but I’ve paid attention to this subject matter for years. For whatever it’s worth, I think this is the most credible mob guy on YT! Plus, he gave me a delicious meatball recipe a few months back! 😂. Appreciate it, Mikey! Cheers, or I should say , “Salute!”

I have a street education, parental education nearly 50 years of "life experience education", academic education. Being a parent education. But Mr DiLeonardo the way you analyse American Cosa Nostra with RJ is absolutely AMAZING. Given me a totally different perspective. Anyone who wants an unbiased real understanding and deep analytical exploration of American Cosa Nostra should listen to you guys. Well lived, researched, remembered and articulated. When I get to New York later this year looking up you and RJ! You never stop being a made guy. And if we know anything in 2023 is there's no such thing as a "rat", there are fakes, but "rat" is a matter of perspective. Michael- when Frank DeCicco was killed- it seems like a major turning point occurred with the Family’s trajectory. From my research- it appears Frank served as an emissary between John and Sammy. Someone that John and Sammy both trusted. And when Frank was gone, it seems like things declined with the trust among the leadership. Am I completely off base?

hi RJ and Michael, Michael, did you know my stepdad Mike Balzano aka Mike Novel of Novel Vending? He was a distributor on pinball row in Manhattan in the 1980’s and had a route of 8 lines and pokers. He and my mom were a friend of John Sr. Mike was born in 1941 and grew up in Mill Basin..ran with the Avenue T Boys, then joined the marines and when he returned in the late 1960’s / 70’s he and his father Anthony opened a pizza and donut shop “Papa T’s” on Livonia Ave in East NY. He passed away last year in Delray Beach, FL of natural causes at age 80. We miss him a lot and thankfully his legacy lives through my wife making his sauce for our family. It was his moms recipe, she was born on Mott St. Mike didn’t talk about the life around the house but I remember he would tell me John Sr used to visit him in Puerto Rico (Mike and my mom lived in PR for 10 years) and they would hang out at the El San Juan hotel. I enjoy your show. Thank you. Salud guys 🍷🍷

Hi Mikey, a pleasure and thank you for the reply. Sure a lot of stories and glad to share, I grew up in Jericho, LI and during my 1st year of college my mom met Mike so they were married 37 years. He was a family guy and didn’t talk about business too much around the house, years prior to his passing he enjoyed cooking for us, chicken cutlets and spaghetti, or spaghetti and shrimps. I don’t see how to upload photos to this reply so I added a few pics in a google folder of us as a family. My wife and I are going out of town today with our 2 daughters ages 10,12 skiing. I’ll see my mom when we get home soon after the 28th and I’ll capture some old pics of Mike. He was smart, if I joked with him about something he would say “you got pictures?” He was low key and never went to weddings or funerals. My mom went to Johns funeral. Her and John Sr were close and dated and remained friendly for many years, long before she met Mike in 1988. btw, my mom would have better stories than I. drive.google.com/drive/folders/1-7yq7-rPNQOg8TonePk2KP5c-M5hhG27 make it a great day guys 🍷🍷

@jeffberger Жыл бұрын
Mikey, a pleasure! thinking about stories to share. One is a long story but here’s a brief. Mike’s old company Novel Vending officially began when he bought for $40,000 the telephone # to Runyon Vending and Amusement, formerly owned by Gerry Catena, Barnie Sugarman, and I think 1 other partner. Mike had bought a turn key business just with a phone # and of course he made it a success. Gerry Catena and Irving Green, etc were turning the direction from the street and more into Ballys gaming and Atlantic City and had to clean up their look. 2nd story one of Mikes customers was Marty Hodus who as you know invented the coin peep show. Mike’s mechanics helped Marty with bill hoppers for the peeps in Times Sq. Marty also had a vending route and 1 day Crazy Joe Gallo wanted Marty’s jukebox out of a stop and Joe was to put his there. Joe shot at Marty’s head and grazed his temple and Marty was very lucky to escape death that day. But that’s a story u likely heard already. 3rd story Mike was living in Rutherford, NJ in those days and when he met my mom one night in 1988 partying at a club on Long Island. With days and nights partying together between Rutherford, Jericho LI, and Atlantic City to gamble and party, my mom and Mike settled in months later to my moms home in Jericho LI. At first it was a growing pain for my older brother, myself…. and younger sister who 2 years later in late 1989 would die of a drug overdose partly due to cocaine my mom and Mike were using and selling. I say this to clarify the life can often be bad when you don’t follow the rules. Don’t get high on your own supply. It’s been highs and lows as is expected. Eventually my mom and Mike’s “honeymoon” ended some years later they slowed down to enjoy a quieter pace. btw, I went to Boston University and while there was friends with Robert DiBernardo Jr. He was a nice and good guy. Very sad the loss of his dad. Anyway, we’re now on spring break skiing in France, and we visited Courmayeur Italy for a few days. Was nice to enjoy Italian culture / la dolce vita. Pics are here and I’ll follow up after we get home with pics of Mike in his younger days drive.google.com/drive/folders/1-7yq7-rPNQOg8TonePk2KP5c-M5hhG27 Salud 🍷🍷🇮🇹🇫🇷

This is the first non-Patreon content I’ve watched. I stopped literally one minute into it just now to make a point. It’s true that John Gotti made a monumental mistake on December 12th. His mistake was that he could never believe that someone close enough to him to know that he used a specific apartment of the several above the club was working for the FBI. That’s not an excuse for him but to underscore the fact that if all the “made” guys were in put a line every other one is likely an FBI informant.

I've got a couple of questions, how did/does the FBI get into a place like that and spend all the time it takes to plant bugs, on what seems like multiple occasions, without being noticed? And after it was found out that the first bugs were planted, why wasn't someone "on duty" so to speak, making sure that nobody could have access again or at least shadow whoever was granted access, i mean if an unknown person was inside the club doing something nobody stayed with them observing their actions?

So Mike, you were talking about Frankie Loc today. I was curious to know what you thought of his son. I've seen him in a video of John coming to the Ravenite after being exonerated. And the son (I think it's his son) is yelling at reporters, "Of course we're happy, the whole city should be happy" before he slams the door on the reporters' face. To me he seems to be quite disrespectful and a bit of a cocky loud mouth. The kind of guy John wouldn't like to have around. Am I accurate in my assessment or was that just a bad look for him?

So far, no one has had the guts to address the sicilian/neapolitan dynamic, or the fact that sammy may have been (from the start) a liaison for Sicilian entities that felt entitled to seize the most lucrative resources left behind after decades of development. The fact that sammy went to arizona my be a clue. It seems like Michael has come closest by discussing Sicilian history and lineage.

Gravano disputes it, but nobody who knew both guys is taking Sammy's point of view. And that says a lot.

While I don't think Sammy is telling the truth about John ordering Sammy to take the fall when they're in jail, I think Mike, out of loyalty to John, is underplaying what was going on here. And I base that not only on John's words, but Franky's shocked reaction. What was Sammy's crime? Making money? Does John accuse him of not kicking up enough? No! John's just accusing Sammy of being TOO GOOD at making money using the family name. What this shows me is John was envious of Sammy's ability to start businesses and make money, and he was worried about the power that gave Sammy. It's that simple. Sammy was a threat because he was just too good at doing what he did. This is why Franky is so shocked. Because John was making it clear he was going to take Sammy out. And he had to line up enough top captains to do it, and to make sure the aftermath went smooth. But John had no reason to betray Sammy. When John senses Frankie's shock, he makes clear to him with language Mikey understands perfectly well: if Franky's not with him on this, he's in danger too. This has been true in political organizations throughout history, but it's especially true in a situation where the king or head of state came to power by killing his predecessor. Just as John Gotti did. So John always had to be worried it could happen to him. That's the problem with coming to power that way. It means you have to be vigilant against any potential rival. Sammy had become one, whether Sammy knew it or not. And I suspect Sammy didn't know it. I believe Sammy WAS actually loyal. There's no evidence I've seen anywhere he's not. When Sammy heard those tapes, he understood all this. John was going to betray and kill him simply to eliminate a rival. Why doesn't he tell the story quite that way? Because it wouldn't justify becoming a rat. It might justify him killing John, but not cooperation. For that, Sammy needs to show that the organization was essentially betraying him through John asking him to take the fall so the head of the family could walk free. That doesn't really justify betraying all the people Sammy did, but it's the best he can come up with. I enjoy watching Sammy. I don't judge him as a rat. I've never been in those shoes, and he was facing life in prison. But he's lying to himself. He cut a deal to avoid that sentence. But there's also no doubt those tapes had to cut deep, and made it easier for him to betray his oath. I just don't thing Gotti's excuse for wanting to eliminate Sammy was any more honest. He wanted to take out a potential rival, nothing more. Anyone too good at their job as a gangster was risking his life in that family. Mikey Scars seems to have shrewdly understood that and tried to avoid flying too high. Most of these captains were pretty smart, but Mike definitely stands out as very intelligent and would have succeeded at anything.

I believe you truly hit the nail on the head when you said John was envious of Sammy,,, and Sammy might not even have realized how envious John was. It's also kind of weird because I believe Mikey when he says that John was not about the money. But John was definitely envious of Sammy's ability to make money. It seems counterintuitive,, but at the same time very true
@yellowcottagetales Жыл бұрын
@@patrickflaherty6586 Agree 100%. I don't think John's focus was ever money. But money is also power. John had to see Sammy as a threat, even if Sammy wasn't inclined to betrayal. In no way do I take Sammy's word on this stuff as completely honest. And look, Sammy was loyal to Paul too, but when he had an opportunity, he helped John kill him. But bottom line for John is that he had to worry someone would come to power the same way he had.

seems to me that John was envious of the construction companies Sammy built, but isnt it a crime family? would he take the profits of a crew members coffee shop or candy store?
