I remember the first time I heard basket case here in Scotland. I was 11 and got the cassette for my 12 birthday. This was 1995 and the next thing I purchased Dookie and it honestly still sounds great. I’ll never get bored of those songs but these covers bring it back to life.

Love Dookie, love Green Day, love this channel and this Dookie celebration, and while we're reminiscing about the good and bad times we've lived through the past 30 years I'll share this story about the warped tour date I attended at the Gorge Amphitheatre in Washington state the year The Ataris had their moment with their cover of Boys of Summer. I loved Blue Skies, so I was watching The Ataris do their thing on the main stage, but people just wanted to hear Boys of Summer. San Dimas High School Football Rules? No we want Boys of Summer. People kept throwing sh!t at Kris, demanding Boys of Summer, and then he finally got hit in the head by a bottle of something. He was pissed, picked it up, emptied it into the front row, unzipped and whipped his little Atari out and shook it at the crowd full of teen fans in an apparent gesture of defiance. In that moment he successfully conveyed that he was not just a sell-out or one-hit-wonder with a cover song, but also a sad man furiosly shaking his wiener at children. Angry Nerd Rock indeed.
