I have survived neck and lung cancer for the last five years. I took up fishing last year and I'm so hooked I already bought a boat. These punching and flipping videos make me so excited. Hope I can find some lakes here to try these techniques. Thanks Mikey I really love what you do and will always be a faithful fan.

@@anthonykozar9172 I’m in North Carolina, about five miles north of Chapel Hill. I’m super close to Falls Lake, Jordan Lake and Shearon Harris Resevoir. Most of these are in the 14,000 acre size. I’m also only an hour from Kerr Lake and Lake Gaston the larger of which (Kerr Lake/Buggs Island) around 40,000 acres. Lots of largemouth fisheries to be sure, but there is also strippers and Smallies. I would love to fish Gunnersville and Santee this coming summer. Where are you located Anthony? Do you travel at all? What do you like to fish the most, I.E., docks, punching and flipping, fishing shallow, fishing deep? Is there a particular bait that is your favorite? So I just love to learn. Lol.

Brian, I know what you had to endure. I am a stage 4 throat cancer survivor, I eventually lost my larynx (actually I didn't lose it, I have a pretty good idea where it went, in that I was sleeping and all) but in the end, we are still here. I fished to take my mind off of possible outcomes. Don't know if that had anything to do with it, but I can't help but think it did. Tight lines brother.

Nothing better than a punch bite!! I even look for ponds with vegetation to get on that punch bite. Have a small city lake loaded with shad, sunfish, crayfish and all kinds of predator fish that are all stuffed to the gills that has been cleared up over the last 1p years due to muscles and now it gets loaded with grass since sun gets down to the bottom. That lake will put out a 10+ within the next 2 years

The small fish will come up to eat bugs: damselflies where I live. They will sometimes jump after these bugs as they hatch and return to lay their eggs. Often, when the mats are thick at the surface, the bluegill are stuck on the top of the mat for a second. I think that explains a LOT about a heavy frog bite. But a mat-flipped jig does the same thing on the underside of the mat.

Do you punch submerged grass? How deep or how shallow of grass is too much? Do you frog fish vs punch depending on the mats or depth? Both or light intensity?
@mikeybalzz2 жыл бұрын
yup - i try to focus on 10 ft or less but i've caught them all the way down to 15ft doing it. i frog fish when it seems like fish are blowing up more vs eating the bait under the mat.

How do you have the spool tension set up? I've seen some people use a somewhat fixed line length (so I assume high/tight tension) and just sort of follow the bait down with their rod, but to me it made more sense to loosen it to where it sank on its own. And then thumbing to prevent any backlash and to gauge depth and feel in case of a quick bite.
@mikeybalzz2 жыл бұрын
i have it pretty loose - not totally loose because i found that it tends to fry drag washers if you keep it like that. but it's not casting so i want the bait to pull line out very fluidly so i can be accurate and no much arm movement.
@ageshart45234 жыл бұрын

Yo Mike I just got my first flipping/punching rod and I was wondering what you think of pairing the Daiwa Tatula 200 7.3.1 with it ?? Appreciate any feedback brother ✌️!
@mikeybalzz8 ай бұрын
Never tried that specific reel. The problem I run into with anything other than the higher end Shimano reels like my old green Curados, is they just burn out and they can't handle that high impact braid fishing for more than 6 months to a year. With that being said though I think your speed choice is run on point personally I'd go with a little smaller size real like a 150 just so you could Palm it and it makes the setup a little bit lighter.
@Efishnseetv8 ай бұрын
@@mikeybalzz TY! Im wondering if the 100 is going to be too small for my lebron hands even for my 7'3".. lol. Also the only difference between the 150 and 200 is a deeper spool and 0.2 oz weight since they both share the same frame. I think you should try some daiwas out and lmk cuz im indecisive af lol
