JR and Mike, really great show. I love when JR asks Mike naive questions about how the mob can control a certain business and Mike schools him on the intricacies of how it's done. Having been a superintendent for a major new york general contractor during the late 60's until the early 80's I appreciate how Mike describes the web of unions and businesses the mob controlled. We never went to work saying " let's do work with the mob this project", you just received bids and awarded the contracts. Everyone know that every phase of a job had mob involvement. People outside the industry I talk to think you're exaggerating when you tell them EVERY aspect of the job had some mob control: concrete, masonry, carpentry, excavation, ironwork, operating engineers,...on and on. The westies were even involved in supplying reinforcing bars and labor. Mike made a great point saying that the projects were well constructed. My experience with all workers of all trades were hard working and proud of what they did. The concrete laborers and cement finishers were my favorite because of some of the hard work pouring concrete on high rise buildings. I fondly remember my time keeper telling me all the cement finishers had 10 dependants (which meant no taxes were deducted from their pay!) and they all had the same address (where the tax statements would be mailed)...ha..ha..ha..I told him they were all good catholics and lived in the same apartment building in the Bronx!!! Keep up the good conversations..

Mikey... you replied " keep it coming" on one of my posts so here it is. One of the ways the mob would distribute highjacked goods ( mostly from Kennedy Airport) was on the coffee and sandwich trucks that came around the construction sites. You'd go up to the truck and say "I'll have a regular coffee, buttered roll..and one of those rolex watches! One of the best jobs on a construction site was the construction elevator operator. Let's say if the plumber needed to get his pipe to the 14th floor he'd wait and wait as the operator brought everyone elses supplies up... suddenly $20 would change hands and the plumber would have exclusive use of the elevator.😂😂😂 Same with the crane operator...a little $20 grease and your supllies would go to whatever floor you want in a hurry. Michael, I was talking to my father who was a Union carpenter in the Tri-state area. When I was a kid, he always used to say that his company was mobbed up. But he didn't know for sure other than it was a company that did work in New York and New Jersey. He got a kick out of it being confirmed when I showed him your trial transcripts LOL. The DiTommaso company Interstate he was a Foreman for them for like, 20 years. He signed on with them in his early 40s and worked there until he retired. He said he wished he would have worked there his whole life because they never ran out of work.

I love the mentions of Mt. Hope, Valenti, Ferrara, of course Scara Mix and Industrial loop on SI. Was a construction super for 35 years for contractors on sewer and water jobs in all the Boros. Met folks like Andy Capasso, Dom Clemente, and others who could' t have been nicer, civil and respectful to a civilian. My old boss Bobby Perez RIP always had them over to the office. Interesting show. What you explained about controlling the docks and construction is exactly what government/politics does. Politics is the new racket. My father told me to go into politics because it’s basically legal organized crime. Here in Utica, from the 20’s until the 80’s/90’s it was controlled by two men. The Falcones controlled the mob and Rufus Elefante was the political boss. Everyone thought Falcone was the sexy, rich and feared one. He was. But it was Elefante that died a huge millionaire and the family businesses and properties are still going. He helped elect FDR governor, then when he became president, his companies got every federal contract when they built Griffiss Airforce Base. He got every local and state contract, they even built SUNY Utica outside the city because Elefante owned the land. His whole family was in the payroll at City Hall and the County. I guess I’m the end, Elefante was ahead of his time. He owned the police and made sure no one ever messed with Falcone and his rackets. Then the state brought in the Fisher Investigation in the late 50’s. That’s when the New York Times dubbed Utica “Sin City”. That culture is still alive and well here. It’s wide open.

Joe died an old man with my mom taking care of him. There a lot of info online about Rufus Elefante. I’m still friends with his daughter who is now in her 90’s. She became a lawyer and powerful figure in her own right. There was a good 50 year run where no one got elected or hired in the county without Rufie’s blessing.

@@rf3495Maggadino was the boss of Buffalo. Many say Falcone fell under him, some say Buffalino, others will say Profaci. Ultimately, from my experience and research, all are true and all are false. Joe and Sal Falcone mostly had their own little family. They were at the Apalachin meeting in ‘57. Both came from Sicily, to Brooklyn and settled in Utica. Joe had many dealings with Profaci, Maggadino and Buffalino. Even Albert Anastasia had relations here in Utica. He was here twice just months before he was killed in the barber shop. He was trying to shakedown Joe Falcone for a percent of their gambling rackets. Let’s just say that didn’t sit well and Falcone wasn’t intimidated by even Albert.

LOL I remember as a construction super on SI ordering dump trucks for my bosses City sewer job. He told me who to call each afternoon for the next mornings work. It was a guy who was also a NYC fireman. If a truck was late I would call back and give him hell about it. He would apologize and get the missing truck to me. We only spoke daily on the phone. Months later at the company Christmas party the truck guy showed up. My boss introduced me and the guy was about 8ft tall with shoulders as wide as a Cadillac. My point is he was a business man, friendly and took my verbal nonsense as I was a rep of a client. LOl he could have twisted me into a pretzel.

MOB SNOB: History has shown us that John Gotti Sr. was the worst don the Gambino Family ever had. He operated like a thug, a hood, with zero class. He was uncouth. It took Joe Watts to dress Gotti, to show him what his wardrobe should like like. Gotti was clueless as to how a godfather should dress in public. When it came to business, Gotti was again out of his league. He was no Paul Castellano who knew how to build and grow successful multi-million dollar legitimate businesses. Gotti was like a bad poker player who didn't know when to leave the table until he was broke. Sometimes I see John Gotti glorification on KZbin and shake my head. It was laughable his son and brother Pete were, at times, the godfather of the Gambino Family. A complete laugh. These people were not role models for young boys.

If he felt for you like you said he did he may have forgiven you for doing what you did. I think it would be absolutely amazing if it could happen. I mean he does do you tube. Just a thought.
