Hey, I have a question, Mikey, hope you don't mind? After editing the video and taking a bit to digest the episode, how do you feel about Lilith's character now? Do you have any guesses about why she might have cursed Eda? What is your thoughts about her trying to get Eda healed by the Emporer?
@davidbodor17622 жыл бұрын
The way Eda says "Then how pathetic are you that you can't best me at my worst!" sends chills down my back every time. And that goodbye to Luz, she sounds like she genuinely thinks she's never seeing her again and just tells her how much she meant to her. Wendie Malick is amazing.

1. This is where most people FINALLY put some respect on Hooty's name. They were blind for so long. 2. If you go back to "The Intruder" (where we find out about the curse) in Eda's dream she asks the mysterious figure who they are. The very next episode is "Covention" where we meet Lilith. Eda asked the question and the show presented us with the answer.

@@MikeyVenture Another subtle hint that people picked up on is the shadowy figure's glowing circles, their glasses; when Wing it Like Witches showed us what Lillith looked like as a kid, many people speculated that she was the one who cursed her since the glasses on her face matched the shadowy figure's. I never bought it and was proven so wrong lol. People in this fandom are very good at picking up on subtle clues 😛

Usually, characters like Hooty have a tendency to get on my nerves. But I adore Hooty, I have no idea how they managed to do that. He's so endearing. Especially in the later episodes. The reveal in this episode legit made me gasp the first time I saw it. Seriously, I scared the crap out of my mom and had to explain ^^; I just got Disney+ not too long ago because the subscription was on sale. I kept hearing about this show, about how good it was. I'm not typically a fan of animated TV shows from the US, they usually get on my nerves because they're needlessly stupid. I guess I just have the wrong kind of humor for it, Idk. But I gave The Owl House a shot and instantly fell head over heels for it. It's lighthearted and quirky, but it knows when to be serious and dark. And boy does it get dark. I'm so glad I decided to binge it XD But the wait for "season 3" is already agonizing and I just got into the fandom.

Welcome to the fandom, happy to have you here :) I think it's a testament to how great the series is that it can grab in even people who normally wouldn't watch shows like it. I know some people that don't actively watch cartoons that gave it a shot because they did hear it was LGBTQ+ friendly, which is rare to see from Disney in one of their cartoons, and then they stayed because it was genuinely a great show on top of that. It was such an unexpected surprise for them from what they tell me.

I first got into this show after this episode came out. Reading spoilers on twitter made me binge it all in one night so I was ready to experience the season finale in real-time. Everyone hated Lilith after this episode (which just speaks to how effective the writing is... they really made you care about the characters, and you really feel betrayed by the reveal that she cursed Eda) but what really strikes me in every rewatch is just how much her *desperation* is built up. Both in this episode, and in the previous ones. The Lilith of a week ago wouldn't have taken Luz hostage and threatened her life, but with the Emperor's ultimatum hanging over her head, and Eda still refusing to come in willingly, she feels she has no other option left except to fight dirty against her sister. Any further analysis of Lilith's character veers into spoiler territory, obviously we're going to see more of her and I won't give it away! But I just really find her one of the most interesting characters... ever. In anything.

I had an entirely different theory from everyone for who cursed Eda. I thought it was the Emperor himself or he had someone curse her, this way his hands would be clean. Maybe Eda discovered something she was never supposed to know, so Belos cursed her, or at least hired someone to curse her to punish her for sticking her nose somewhere it didn't belong. And the reason why she couldn't remember, why the one who cursed her was so blurry, was because they used some kind of memory wiping spell on her. That was my theory anyway. Boy, was I dead wrong haha. Turns out it was her sister, which is kind of worse.

[Season 2 Spoilers below] Personally, I like that reveal a lot. It makes sense from a character perspective. She and Eda were very close in the past, but you can tell that Lilith's never been comfortable with Eda being better than her at everything. Cursing her sister was the only way to guarantee that SHE would be THE one to take the spot in the well-regarded Emperor's Coven, therefore receiving the praise and recognition she never had but always craved for. This choice backfired her, though, since the curse was way stronger than she ever anticipated and she ended up ruining not only Eda's life, but her own as well. [From Season 2 Episode 4] Her mom most likely never gave her enough credit for all her hard work, since she was too obsessed trying to "fix" Eda, who now, even having this curse taking over her, can still easily outpower her sister in a duel. In this episode, Lilith just had way too much on her head to watch her words. Having to face the very thing that she refuses to accept (that she can't even best Eda at her worst) eventually popped her bubble and she uncounciously slipped out the truth. I think Lilith really wanted to help cure Eda here, as a way to make up for her mistake, but was way too blinded by her own thoughts to realize Belos was lying to her. IMO it's an all-around great twist that gets even better after you get more insight into her motivations and feelings in season 2.

This episode is fking awesome, no doubt about it....but it also kind of highlights my issue with season one. The pacing is kinda wack, I really like owl house over all its a really good show, but pretty much all of its "main plot" takes place in the last 2 or 3 episodes of the season. I agree with you that its really fun and satisfying to have everything click into place all at once. But imo I kinda feel like at least some of the over arching plot could have bled into previous episodes. Like maybe some of the history of the isles and what the emperor did with the covens? or something. Idk like I said the overall show is really damn good, and I think given the last 2 episodes as a jumping off point season 2 has a way better pace with its episodes, but thats just my 2 cents.

I never understood how people fall for propaganda and just repeat "facts" that they've been programmed to believe. I know humans do it _all the time_ in real life too, but it's something that has bothered me for my whole life. Like, why can't you just think for yourself and question what you've been told? It's much more likely that an "Emperor" would lie to everyone about how great he is, than it is for that to actually be the case. That's like someone saying "Our Leader can fly without wings and he has a 1 million IQ and he invented oxygen and gravity, and he was chosen by God to rule the world, but only he can hear God's voice so we have no way to verify these claims, nor has he shown any proof, but we believe him because he said so!"

typically because the abuser provides something we need in our life. it could be something spiritual, physical, or even emotional. never think you are above believing propaganda because then you get more easily tricked. it could happen to anyone

Agreed, but two things: (1) our human brains evolved to be efficient, not accurate, so there are *many* cognitive biases, heuristics, and other ways that our brains get things wrong. It's easy to use those to manipulate people if you know what they are. And also, (2) people often swing the pendulum the opposite direction as well, where they "think for themselves" by just believing whatever they like instead of what's true as a reaction to being told something. I.E. "I don't just believe whatever I'm told, I think for myself and do my own research" often means "I don't like what you said, so I found someone who agrees with me and I choose to believe them instead." We all need to be careful not to do that, and instead to stay in the middle ground where experts presenting evidence form the basis of our beliefs, rather than what we choose to believe based on our limited understanding and desires, or what people tell us without evidence.

Hi. Listen this is important!! You need to pause and read the book in the opening scene! Literally no one reads that thing and it is important in late season 2 episodes! Please read the book!

Sorry, that was not meant to be a spoiler. What I meant was it was world building and stuff. Ya know? (P.S: The info in the book is also not necessary, but it is helpful & cool.)
