When Tal got sick at a chess tournament, Bobby was the only person to visit him in the hospital. They were great friends and respected each other.

The fact of the matter is Fischer is way too strong for tahl. He made it look so easy.wonderful endgame by fischer. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Tal won 4-0 against Fischer in the Candidates 1959 .. He was often ill, also due to his bad habits, he didn't took any care of his health. In this game the ending is most likely a draw playing correctly. The problem is that Tal tried to go for a win. He was an extremely strong blitz player even when Fischer was hiding due to his mental disease.

@@giovannicorno1247 I agree with what you have written. I know you are a fan of tahl.me too. But one must be objective in one's assessment. When tahl was leading 4-0 Fischer was very young, inexperienced. But later on by the end of the sixties he was almost invincible, unstoppable. Agree or not, that's upto you. Fischer-tahl, I believe,overall,4-4=5. Correct me if I'm wrong. Of course,as you mention, tahl was ill,so you are ready to give him the benefit of doubt. But when Fischer was mentally in a bad shape, you say,he went into hiding. But you have to agree in this game Fischer simply outclassed him. Any way thks for your wonderful response. Good day and a very wonderful year ahead, since we are meeting for the first time in 2022. Rather belated but okay.thks to dear corno sir.

@@giriiyer3968 actually I owe to Bobby Fischer my attention to chess, so I am for sure a fan of him as of Tal. Fischer did never outclass him and when Tal won 4-0 he was very young too. He became the youngest champion beating Botvinnik. Fischer had an extraordinary year 1971 where he won the Candidates matches, probably due to a psychological domination over his opponents. Tal continued playing actually until his death at high level, winning tournaments and beating Kasparov few days before dying while Fischer just played the second match with Spassky where he shown good level but with a tired and demotivated Spassky. I think Tal can be considered one of the best ever for talent, but must be criticised for his very bad behaviour with his body.

“I don’t know what Petrosian, Korchnoi, Bronstein, and Smyslov counted on before the start of the tournament, but I expected them to be the most probable rivals for the top prizes. Fischer had until recently played fast chess none too strongly. Now much has changed: he is fine at fast chess. His playing is of the same kind as in tournament games: everything is simple, follows a single pattern, logical, and without any spectacular effects. He makes his moves quickly and practically without errors. Throughout the tournament I think he did not lose a whole set of pieces in this way. Fischer’s result is very, very impressive.” (Tal on Fischer after this tournament)

I think Tal had a winning game with Ke5 instead of h4 in the endgame. As a simple rule the King should support passed pawns.

More likely was that Tal lost on time, which probably explains his last mistaken move.
