Chris Stein of Blondie writes about this in his autobiography. He heard it on radio while on tour in Belgium in 1977 and taped the last part of it. It haunted him for years, but he could never find out where it came from. Finally he heard it again in an Almodovar film - but not credited. Back then, IMDb had message boards, and after a year of checking it, someone posted the solution.

I first heard the haunting tune watching the opening of Almodovar's Entre Tinieblas (Dark Habits). Then saw Resnais' fascinating film and recognized that Almodovar "stole" it from Providence. However, the tune works quite well in Dark Habits. It probably would in most films, I guess...

This film is amazing, seriously needs a dvd release. Even if it was Masters of Cinema and it was £15. Alas, I have to live with a crappy quality version on my laptop.

Absolutely charming piece. Rozsa was a master of various styles suited to various films. He was an excellent composer of serious music, too!

Au the bridge.
