This is an odd comment because I heard someone else with a deep nostalgia playing the game and he said they made this way easier, including the visual display of how you're supposed to be hitting the buttons.

@@StarkMaximum the display makes all the difference. the timing is weirdly very strict, but that display at least gives you a workable cue to adjust your timing

More or less you got it already. Pon, abbreviated from ponkotsu could be translated as clumsy *or* useless. The usage of pon term here refers to the first meaning, and usually used in a form of affection between peers.
