Zetta It's fake. Landing without landing gear critically damages air intakes, so this plane won't be able to take off without serious repair. It's also relevant to Su27/30/34/35. I tell you this as ex Su-27 technician. I know what im talking about, because i saw Su-27 landing without landing gear, because forward chassis failed to deploy. That was really scary to see. MiG-29 wasn't supposed to look like this. The first blueprints show conventional configuration with intakes on the side of the fuselage. However, it was developed at the same time as SU-27 (Sukhoi got to develop a heavy fighter, Mikoyan a light one) and that new configuration that Sukhoi tested has proven itself as a great one, so Mikoyan changed the concept, adopted the Sukhoi design, slightly modified it and now we have MiG-29 looking the way we all know it... BTW, that helmet-mounted sight for aiming short range AA missiles by moving your head without any need for turning the entire plane towards the enemy... Awesome idea!

Su-35 is considered multi-role but it's clear that it's intended to be more of an air-superiority fighter with light strike capabilities. Finally, there's the fifth-gen Su-57 that's coming into service... but... Russia can barely afford to keep her 4th gen aircraft flying, nevermind BUILD an advanced 5th gen series. In regards to DCS: The Flaming Cliffs DLC contains the MiG's, Su's, F-15, A-10 and the base Su-25 model and it's currently on 50% sale till the 9th. All these modules, while still simulated, don't have clickable cockpits, so the learning curve is not steep. There are special tutorial missions for each plane, where a dude will be explaining to you how the particular plane operates. There are official short manuals with pictures in PDF format you can download. You don't need a stick or a VR helmet - I play with an xbox controller (with JoyToKey app) and keyboard and mouse and the only thing I consider difficult is flying in formation, which is not really required. The base game is free and comes with the very capable Su-25T ground attack plane. If you'd want to try it but you're afraid it's too difficult and requires a lot of expensive peripherals, it's not - don't be discouraged.

The Fulcrum discussion is very relevant today - as it is an aeroplane build for the OPFOR. The Canadian requirement is primarily for RANGE. Now the F/A-18 weighs 10 tons as the MiG-29, but has a max. Take off weight of 23½ tons - or a usefull load of 13 tons. Usefull load can in principle be used for either munition or fuel. Now the F-35 weighs 13 tons empty and a max. take-off 31½ tons. Or a usefull load of 18½ tons - which for Canadian purposes translates into range as the F-35 carries its fuel internally. That in itself should give the F-35 double the range of an F-16 or 1/3 more range than an F/A-18 - which again for Canadian purposes might mean the disestablishment of an airstation or two. Again stealth is not an issue up north, as it really does not matter if the enemy knows you are there - he can do nothing abuuut it. The Nato-relevant question is how many F-35's Canada needs - this is where the cost factors in. Again it means the ability for Canada to reinforce Northern Europe - AND vice versa. In this context the increased range of the F-35 means that it is realistic to keep the Russians away from the Arctic with F-35's based on Greenland and Iceland. This also means that we in the Arctic can ferry without using airial refuelling. The main requirement is a place to rest the tired pilots. Now Norway is doing the smart thing and buying the F-35. Denmark is in a slightly different position, as we have an interest in the Baltic - as we are the cork in the Baltic bottle. Ideally Denmarks should also have 2 squadrons of Typhoons which has the agility and speed for dogfighting - and the ability to tote quite a lot (because it is hard to see who should actually bother with a dogfight). The Typhoon has an empty weight of 11 tons og about the same as the F/A-18; but a max take-off of 23½ tons which translates into a usefull load of 12½ tons or about the same as F/A-18. Now the fuel economy really is a factor: F-16 and F/A-18 have a specific fuel consumption of .73 lb/(lbf·h) and .81 lb/(lbf·h) respectably. The americans - as per usual - are being coy about the sfc; but the Typhoon has in wikipedia about 1/3 of that. That jump in sfc between generations makes me suspicious that we are being mislead - deliberately: I don't think Putins feelings are a particular concern. But this dramatic reduction in fuel consumption could explain why Typhoon carries its armament externally, as fuel is NOT a major concern. The Fulcrum has about the same sfc as the F-16/F/A-18 but achieves this with a reduced lifeexpectancy and time between major overhauls. This also explains why the Germans dumped the Fulcrum as the plane can hardly take normal western wear and tear.
@georgemavrides34345 жыл бұрын
The Germans dumped the Migs following the unification but those were soviet-era Mig-29 A/UB downgraded export variants. The Mig-29M/SMT/K variants operated by RuAF are on par with F-18 and F-16 variants operated by NATO.
@thomasborgsmidt98015 жыл бұрын
@@georgemavrides3434 No, not really! The Fulcrum cannot escape the inherently poorer engine. You can abuse the technique to achieve a better brochure figure; but at a cost in life expectancy of the engine. That is the reason why civilian airliners try to use as much runway as possible and not flog the engines. It did not matter as much in 1950-60'ies when the service life of an aircraft was 1-2 decades - these days we are talking a service life of 3-4 decades. Another thing you cannot get away from is: Suppose the overall performance of F-16 is the same as for the Fulcrum. Ok the the empty weight of an F-16 is 8½ tons and a Fulcrum is 11 tons - or about 30% more than an F-16. The internal fuel of F-16 is about 3.2 tons - Fulcrum 3½ tons - or just about 10% more. The main reason I argue for both the F-35 and the Typhoon for the Danish Air Force is: We are NOT refighting the cold war. I suspect there is a sweet spot with a 4 squadron combat jet air-force - in training, maintainance, organisation etc. The point being: For the same amount of money Denmark (Norway, Holland and (?) Belgium) will have a far larger area of responsability. We are introducing the F-35 and at the same time extending the defence of the realm so our nearest neighbours are Canada and Russia. Why? It is cheaper - simple as that! As our former PM said: It is NOT a question of money!

Although it wasn't from the same airforce the mig 29 did take on f15s and 16s and 18s, but didn't fare well.
@Zeljko96Srb5 жыл бұрын
Every time the Mig29 faced US aircraft the migs were numericaly inferior to a stupid margin, technologicaly outdated, poorly maintained and its pilots didn't have combat experience. Best example is Yugoslavia '99 where the planes were so poorly maintaned due to imposed sanctions that most of them didnt have working radar and some didnt even have radios that worked. Iraq is also a good example, they had more aircraft but were still outmached by coalition air forces

That is due to the fact that mig fighters (but not the Mig 31, that is a whole different animal) were designed for a too specialized scenario, a Nato vs Warsaw Pact war in Germany. When the are fielded against western or even Sukhoi figherts (Eritrea) outside that scenario, they have serious limitations. 1. Range. Migs 21/23/29 were designed as short range air superiority fighters designed to protect key instalations and armored formations over the front line with heavy numerical superiority over NATO. Hence, short range was not a problem. 2 They were supposed to operate under strict ground control, hence no need for sophisticated radars or glass cockpits. 3 Rough field performance was ok for a fighter that is going to be deployed near a frontline, but they do not have air refueling capability unless they are late models... I mean, being already in the air is the best defense to being destroyed on the ground. And allows more patrol time being a force multiplier. 4 Little ground attack capability with smart weapons. The Soviet VVS had plenty of Mig 27s, SU 17s, SU 24, SU 25 to fill that role, so the Mig 29 and Su 27s can concentrate on air to air.. Other airforces do not have that luxury. When Migs has being deployed in a Central front VSS like scenario, like the Mig 21 in Vietnam and the Mig 23 in Angola, they fare OK against western types.. But when they are not deployed that way, they suffer a lot. As happened in the Middle East, Eritrea and former Yugoeslavia. Post Soviet Russian Mig 29 upgrades leading to the Mig 35 adresses all those limitations are are more western like in design being more multirrole with better radars and cockpits and more range and air to air refueling. The SU 27 was designed with a more universal role. To protect Russian airspace. It was more like the F 15 and fared better after the URSS died.

when the Soviet Union had just fallen, the German Air force suddenly became the owner of a couple of Mig-29's, and Russian made missiles. it totally shocked western pilots, how good this aircraft really was, but more importantly the R-73 missiles it could carry. at that time the R-73 missile outperformed the Aim-9 in every aspect. Speed, Range, Decoy resistance, Turn rate, Max G-load. and the fact that it could be aimed with a helmet sight. then there is the R-27 missile, the IR variant of that is basically a BVR IR missile that will fly up to 40KM (130KM with the latest variant), in combination with the Mig-29's IRST pod. western pilots went to Germany to train against the Mig-29, many of them getting beat by it, and its crazy missiles. i can only imagine the upgraded variants of the Mig-29 as wel as the Mig-35 are something one would not like to meet as an enemy in the sky.

You can simply call them R-27 or "Alamo" missiles. There are some different kinds of R-27s with semi-active radar homing or infrared guidance and newer versiones with extended range, adding some letters.

Thanks for the video, In Bulgaria we still have the MiG-29 and last Saturday we celebrated 30 years of MiG-29 in BG with an airshow. In the next couple of years they'll retired for F-16 block 72 though, makes me kind of sad even though the F-16 in this iteration is far more modern. Also fun fact, our current president is a MiG-29 pilot, and one year before becoming a president he did a Cobra in one of those during an airshow.
