I heard they did this in my home state of Michigan....glad to finally see the video. I worked on A-10's from 84 till 90 at the old base in Myrtle Beach, SC. That aircraft is special. Its not very fast....its ugly as hell, but damn if it doesn't pack a wallup in battle.

Nice to see , in Sweden the Swedish airforce often use regular roads as temporary airbases , from where u can fill up fuel , doing maintance and load more weapons...it's their strategy to use roads like that... means you're not locked to use airbases ..... needs only a normal 2 lane road. Of course they use prefered roads with sidepockets where you can do the maintaince before taking of again.

Despite what people say the A-10 should be retired because of its age and lack of multi role capabilities, I feel it would be a big mistake getting rid of it. There’s no other plane that comes close to the Warthogs capabilities of providing ground attack support to the troops. Keep the old girl in service until an equivalent aircraft is available.

A very indispensable attack aircraft, probably the best attack aircraft ever made. The thing looks like a bad ass brute ready and looking for a fight. The only thing that could replace an A10 is a new A10.

The F-35 will replace the A-10... I love the A-10 cause gun go brrrr but the gun is extremely inaccurate, is barely effective against tanks except with missiles/bombs, has the highest blue on blue count of anything ever built by the US, and is useless against everything except guys with AK's and sandals lol.. @@gigacream5830 This is all wrong, the highest blue on blue number is because it's a CAS aircraft that fights close to ground troops, actually it has a lower blue on blue rate than its usage rate. So, it's safer to have a A-10 support you than something shooting from long range. The gun is not extremely inaccurate its as accurate as you need it to be for ground attack and can still take out tanks from the rear like it was always meant to do. During the Cold War the A-10 was flown in a way to let it operate close to the front line even with manpads etc, just like they did in Ukraine with SU-25s recently, thats why they were painted green to camoflage them against the ground from other fighters.

That strat also HEAVILY is depending on the A-10 or Su-25 having air superiority in the operation area... one Mig, Su, or F-16 in the area would spot an Su immediately. Same with an A-10..

It does not strive in modern combat. Especially while there is aircraft that do it's same exact job but 1,000x better. The A-10 only strived in the Middle East because it was just a bunch of dudes with AK's and flip flops. Maybe a Toyota or 2. No SAMs, no MANPADs, no air power. There's plenty of videos of the A-10 testing against tanks, roughly 70% of shots miss every single burst, of those 30% that hit, only 5% are considered "critical" weather it be fuel tanks, crew, etc, but no kills. We're also both not strategists but I've seen plenty of videos of low flying Su-25s getting shot down by MANPADs... That strategy, while better than flying high, is still NOT a good one. It still relies to much on hopes that there's no enemy aircraft, no foot soldiers that see it or hear it, etc. We no longer need to rely on guns from aircraft my guy. Hence why only one version of the F-35 has a gun and the F-16, F-22, and F-15 have guns, but with only around 60-150 rounds. Modern day combat is all about stealth, multirole capabilities, and advanced precision munitions. We no longer need to rely on guns and while the A-10 can carry ATGMs, so can other aircraft that can also perform other roles in the area. The ONLY reason the A-10 is still loved is again, because big gun go BRRRRR. It is not and never was, a good aircraft. Only a good morale boost.

@@gigacream5830 Well perhaps you don't realise it but manpads, and anti-air systems are not a new thing they were around in the cold war too. You don't understand the A-10 at all but have seen a few hater KZbin videos and think you know something. Because no other current aircraft can do what the A-10 does. The A-10 has now strived in modern combat for for over 30 years because what it was designed to fight has not changed all that much. Its designed to support ground troops not do interdiction bombing, which it managed to quite well in the Gulf War anyway. You have be condition to think about it as a multirole fighter/bomber but it was not designed to be a wildweasel doing SEAD, becasuse you don't need to good at doing that when you are supporting ground troops. The gun is not only an anti-tank gun its an anti-everything gun, its anti infantry, anti-bunker anti-AFV and in addition its powerfull enough to know out tanks from the rear. Thats why its more akin to a shot gun than a sniper rifle because that way its more effective agains multiple smaller targets or larger light skin targets. The low angle tests done in that late 70ties showed that a burst has a ~70% chance making a tank inoperable knocing out either the tracks, engine or gun. A tank dosen't need to exploded to be knocked out. there is a 10-20% chance that a M47 will explode and about double that against a russian T62 which have similar rear armor as more modern versions of T72, T80, etc. You seem to be under the delution that you can have a war against a near peer enemy and not have any casualties or aircraft shot down. When the ennemy has modern air defense you need to fly low if you want to provide ground support. Precision is great and but it is more expensive, all that marketing hype you just spouted is only true for a short smallish war, when you have expended you precision munitions its back to good old direct fire and bombing. Its much cheaper to shoot dumb rounds than smart ones, even in a short war like the first gulf war. In addition to the ~8000 AGMs, the A-10s also fired 1 million rounds of gun ammo. The reason the A-10 is still loved is because it filles a need that no other plane can fill, that you can continously give ground troops air support with from a cost effective platform. That is why it was always a great aircraft that has been able to stand the test of time. The US airforce is preoccupied with bombing thats why they don't like the A-10, it was designed to support the US Army, not do interdiction bombing.

The A-10 was a replacement for the McDonnell Douglas A-1 Skyraider. It's interesting that the Pentagon didn't go back to them for a jet version. Ironically the A-10 was the only attack plane from Fairchild Republic.

Correct because thrust reversers are weight, and weight is fuel you can't carry or bombs you can't drop. So, with the exception of the cargo aircraft, most US Air Force planes do not have thrust reversers this includes the KC-135 and the KC-46.
