I've got something to say on the movie theatre one about people leaving their trash in the theatre. I'm one of the people that cleans the theatre after you leave. Certain things are annoying and certain things are expected. Popcorn. It's hard to get all that popcorn into your mouth in a dark room lol. Dropping a couple kernels is okay. I do it too. Pro tip. If you drop some, don't worry about picking it up, but do try to kick it under the seat or something. That goes for candy too. It's easy to clean when it's just sitting there but when it gets smooshed into the floor of the aisle, it can be a pain. So just kick it to where it won't get stepped on, I can get it from there. Drinks. Leave them in the cupholder unless you're taking it to your car with you. The trash bins on your way out of the theatre are harder to maintain than the one I carry with me, so I would rather throw it away in my own can. Just don't leave it on the floor because it's a disaster waiting to happen. Mostly, you're at the movies to enjoy a night out, so do just that. Don't worry about me doing what I get paid to do, but I do appreciate people trying to make my job not harder than it has to be. Just enjoy yourselves, we don't get enough of the good times anymore.

Sean googling USA maternity leave: "I'm sure there's more to it." Nope. That's it. 12 weeks, unpaid. IF you're full time, and not working 3 part-time jobs simultaneously trying to pay your bills. Even if you are full-time, so many people don't take the full 12 weeks because they literally can't afford it. Or if their baby is in NICU, they may not take leave during that time so they can spend time with their baby when they're home. So they go to work feeling guilty because they're not at the hospital with their sick newborn, but they can't NOT go to work because they have to pay hospital bills because their insurance deductible is $3000 and that's one-tenth of their income. The US is literally a dystopia over here.

Yeah I feel like the us might need to extend maternity leave though I think part of the reason it’s so small is cause most employers thing the woman is married and the husband is working (that was the case in my family) but for a single mother it wouldn’t surprise me that maybe a day after they gave birth they went back to work (if they are in a wage job if it’s a salary job hopefully the employer has basic human decency and will pay their employee at least something until they come back to work within reason obviously If the person leaves the job you shouldn’t have to pay them cause they are no longer employed but if they stay they need at least something till they come back (within reason) it should be required by law in the United States that their should be at least some paid maternity leave and also I know people talk about Amazon possibly running into problems with maternity leave if they paid their employees for it but it’s freaking Jeff Bezos with the calculations I saw and stuff and considering most people quit Amazon after awhile I highly doubt it’s a huge issue Amazon isn’t going to go bankrupt over it the problem with the US is that it makes being poor very hard to get out of (my family was poor for over a decade till my dad found a decent job) anyway I think I’ve said enough I simply value human decency and not screwing people over for having a life

Thankfully, there are still quite a few companies that will do paid maternity leave in the US for full-time employees. It's up to the employers to decide, rather than it being law and making the companies factor it into their regular expense. Another person left a steak on the bottom shelf in one of the aisles. We had no idea it was there until the smell was overwhelming, and then spent a couple hours combing through the shelves trying to find the source.

Except for the fact that you chose to have a child. In the US you are paid for a service. If you can work from home cool, more power to you. Yes, children need a mother with them 24/7 at a young age. But you are no longer providing a service to the company ie, no wages. Now if you find a company that offers it that would be a good company. The idea that it should be required means that people will abuse it. During covid in the US we had an astrominical amount of money being given to people to sit at home. In the first year of Biden's presidency unemployment has only dropped 2% because we are giving people money for nothing. There are help wanted signs EVERYWHERE. Yet positions are unfilled. At one point the govt was giving $900/week for unemployment. Why would somebody go work at McDonald's or be a receptionist for $12/hr when they could in theory be paid $30/hr to sit at home?

It depends on the employer. Federal maternity leave is one thing, but employers can extend it at will and is often part of your contract with your employer, so if you don't think your employer's policy works for you you will know ahead of time before signing the contract. Individual states also have different policies that can add to that (much like different EU members have different policies). I'm not saying the system is good or not, just that it is not that simple and a lot of policies and laws are left out of the Federal Govt. so as to limit its' power.

I have something mildly infuriating to share: Mildly: KZbin removed dislikes from videos, so now you don't have a warning for when a KZbin tutorial or infomercial is wrong. You take the info to heart, like "Yeah, isn't it cool how Hitler built the Autobahn" then get shut down in conversation by someone who actually *reads:* "Hitler didn't build the Autobahn, he just authorized its expansion. So better try to find something else to like about your favorite fascist, Cartman." Infuriating: I drove a coworker to his house once, dude left my car, and slammed the door so hard it shook the vehicle. I didn't antagonize him, didn't shoo him out or anything. It's just apparently how he closes car doors. Ever since, you *need* to put extra oomph behind closing the door or else it doesn't close anymore. Man permanently made closing the passenger side door an inconveniencing experience for anyone involved.
@K-7Maylis2 жыл бұрын
My mom has a car with really heavy doors so just pushing it won't close it so I have to slam it hard but I have noticed sometimes cars shake when I do it like that, she has an old car.
@ominouslightning2 жыл бұрын
Okay, wait, hear me out. I slam doors. I don't mean to, but if I'm not paying attention, I just do it instinctively. I also commonly accidentally close water bottles so tightly that I can't open them again. I wasn't aware that I did these things until recently, and I'm working on it, but I think I've figured out why I do it. For me, it's an anxiety thing. Severe anxiety runs in my family. The reason I slam doors is because I've had experiences where I didn't close a door hard enough, and one of my cats got out. He didn't get hurt, but we live in an area where people shoot/run over cats for fun, so it was terrifying. Since then, I unconsciously slam doors. I close water bottles so tightly because I've had times where I didn't close them tight enough and spilled water all over my laptop. So, I'm not excusing my behavior, or your coworker's behavior, but that's at least an explanation of why I myself do it. Perhaps your coworker doesn't realize he's doing it? Though, it still sucks that your door was permanently messed up.

@@toukendanshiwarrior2846 Straight-up slavery was definitely a thing a while back. And even though we've come a long way, unfortunately companies still pay the bare minimum and force you to work more hours. That's why so many people in America struggle to literally live.

The one time I tried to do something similar I got spotted by the owner of the car (who blocked like 4 fucking spots at once somehow) and ofc the justification was "I WAS IN A HURRY!!!" Nevermind that this was on a college campus roughly 20-30 minutes before all the morning classes start and there are no free spots to be found.

To be fair, the backwards books aren't _completely_ silly. If the shelf gets a lot of sun it reduces fading of the spine. Although at that point it might be better to get a drape cover for it instead. Also, Australia and NZ have superior electric plugs. The prongs are angled so that even without the earth prong you can't put it in backwards.
@Samhalta3 жыл бұрын
Yeah but when the books are turned that way and there is a lot of sun, the paper will get yellow and brittle (archivist here, don't put paper in the sun/blue light for long periods of time. Thanks).
@imonkeybee3 жыл бұрын
With the UK plugs though, even if you put the plug in halfway, it's physically impossible for the plug to shock you due to how it's coated
@Mirality3 жыл бұрын
There are many plugs like that in Aus/NZ too, though you're right it's not universal. Still, the prongs are short enough that you have to be trying pretty hard to get a shock from them -- either the plug won't be far enough in to have made contact yet or it's far enough that there's not much gap to be dangerous unless you're actively poking a metal knife in from the side or something.
@pipedream25563 жыл бұрын
Ew no angled prongs are worse! They're such a pain to plug in even when you're able to put pressure direct on the back, let alone when it's behind something or too close to the floor so you can't press on it easily. And why would anything without the extra safety measure of the earth prong ever be considered superior?? Even if the angled thing is a way to stop it being installed backwards, why not have a third one also angled just so there's, you know, less chance of a horrific death?

There is a lot more too it. Like 1/3 of the entire population living off of the work of others, and almost no one else having anywhere mear as many people other than China and India. Not too mention the big corporations like Walmart and McDonalds don't actually cater to individual Walmart or McDonalds, and that the franchisee owner and store owners pay the corporations to rent their logos and name. Those massive corps only run the land and rent of each location and deal with 0% of the income other than what they are owed: meaning every big multinational chain is nothing but Small Business owners under a collective banner but run independantly.
