Hello folks! This is a rather chatty/waffly video in which I share some thoughts on the novel 'Mildred Pierce' by James M. Cain (1941) and also some love for the 1945 film adaptation.
Apologies for this one being on the 'extra' chatty side of things ;)

I had the same experience reading the novel after they movie. I also just read the Maltese Falcon after having seen the movie with Humphrey Bogart and had the same reaction. In fact, I liked the movie a little better than the book. “The stuff that dreams are made of” was a brilliant line from the screenplay that sums up the theme remarkably better than the book ever did.

Just ordered from Amazon, a single volume with FOUR of James M Cain's novels adapted for film: Mildred Pierce, The Postman Always Rings Twice, Double Indemnity and Serenade. Can't wait to get into it!

Terrific video, Lee! 💕🎬 As promised, I'm back after seeing this classic for the first time! Wow - what. a. movie.✨ I loved it and couldn't wait to hop on over to your channel and hear your thoughts! 🙂 I really enjoyed your insights into both the book and the movie. The way you described the evolution of the book into film was fascinating and brilliantly done! Also, thanks to you, I shall be giving this a read. It sounds right up my alley! 😉 Lovely video, my friend, and an excellent companion to Mildred Pierce! 📚🎥💕

Aw fantastic Ari 🎉! So happy to hear you enjoyed the film! Joan Crawford 🙌💕 What a performance right? Blushing like mad over here, thanks to your lovely feedback 🥰! Thrilled you enjoyed the video and even more thrilled that I appear to have made at least a little bit of sense in my rambling 😅 Once I get going…. lol Would love to hear your thoughts on the book if you get around to it too 😊! Cheers again lovely 😘❤️ You have made my day! x

This was basically my introduction to Mildred Pierce. I, of course, know of the film but I have never come across it in my travels. I think I actually started watching the Kate Winslet miniseries when it first came out but maybe only saw the first 10 minutes before I was distracted and never went back… not it’s fault. I just kind of forgot. 😂 Loved hearing you thoughts though! Will have to introduce myself to Mildred one of these days.

Ah, I hope I didn’t give too much away 🤭! It’s one of those stories jam-packed with characters and moments that make me want to let loose and rant about 😂 so I tried my best to keep things as vague as possible 😅 I hope you enjoy the movie 😉🍿 Ida is my spirit animal x

I found your channel through Lesley and I'm so glad I did! I love both noir literature and classic film, although I haven't yet read this book by James M. Cain. I read The Postman Always Rings Twice and Double Indemnity which are also worth reading (and watching but you've probably already seen them since they're classics). You have a lovely Jimmy Stewart print behind you btw!

Cheers so much Nadia 💝 I have seen both of those films 🎬💎 100% agree with you, absolute gems. I’ll do my best to track down the books for sure 😉 Thank you for the recs. The Jimmy print is amazing isn’t it? A piece created and gifted by our very talented Lesley herself! I adore it 🥰

I came to watch your channel through Ella, and I am so glad that I did. I used to be an avid reader, and in one video, you have me ready to go and watch the movie and read the book! So, I need to go and see if I can find them and get started! I have books in progress, just about as much as I have wips, so I really need to get back to a 2nd love that I set aside too long. One reason is I started the last book written from one of my favorite authors, and normally I can read a full book in one sitting, staying up to do so because I cannot put it down, and now I do not want to pick it up, because I cannot believe it is my last, but with her writing up until she passed, it has to be. I have to go back and see, but I have read almost every book. So, I need to find the one or two I missed while laid up sick and not wanting to do anything. If you are curious, the said author is Mary- Higgins Clark, and she writes some amazing suspense novels. I also used to watch the older movies, but have a lot that i never saw, so, I need to go and find those and start watching again, I love the older movies, not sure why I drifted, unless it was because they were harder to come by when I had the time and was younger. Anyway, I write like I talk, a bit too long. I will definitely be back to see more! If you ever feel like it, maybe you could check my channel out, but i right now only just show and talk about anything, mostly crochet, and updates on my health. I had thought about a book club but am disabled and it is hard to purchase books, and I cannot drive to go to the library, so listen to audibles more than reading right now. anyway, have a great day and thanks again!

Aw that’s wonderful to hear AJ 💝! Thrilled to hear you have been inspired to get back into reading and possibly checking out some classic films! I recently got more into audiobooks myself. So great (except when I fall asleep, wake up and have no idea what’s going on 😂) Lovely to hear from you! x

I have a very old book with 3 of Mt Cain's stories: Mildred Pierce, The Postmain Always Rings Twice & Double Indemnity. I love the movies but the books are better.

It's amazing how something as wholesome and American as a pie could lead to so much ... chaotic noir-ish turbulence.
