I'd imagine that even if there were zero traffic that people would only be willing to live so far from the city. But then again this is Houston.
@Koombayai Жыл бұрын
@@MileageMikeTravels I'd say at that point, build a high speed train belt, and build multi use housing/shopping/offices at the stops, like brightline but a big ol 300 mile circle, houston's big enough. if you absolutly need road connections, build stroads to it, but it sure would be nice, hop on the 4th belt and get where you're going. Of course 300 miles is a lot of money, but is it really that much more expensive to lay rail and stations when widening the already ready to widen grand parkway costs 112 million? Plus you sell real estate near the stations like brightline and it's even profitable (with a fare) , but not a 100million dollar tax or toll expense.

@@MileageMikeTravels not bad for the whole loop, The toll up SH288 (10 miles) is around $16 each way, and the freeway backs up terribly at rush hour, my girlfriend took it for a month without realizing how much it would add up to and got a $500 bill, I'm for tolls when done right, they maintain a high road quality, pay workers, circumvent the gas tax issue if you drive electric, but not at those prices, that's extortion and greed. Beltway 8 from 288 to 45 is only like 2 dollars to ride.

plus it's a regressive tax that impacts poor people much more than the rich. (If you make 20k a year $16 bucks both ways is unbelievable) but if you make a million a year, you could wipe your nose with 16 bucks. Not exactly a fair tax...

@@rlg1976x I don't think they catch what interstate really means.... The 275 beltway around Cincinnati runs through three states....Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. Hence, the interstate title! I've traveled that entire loop....takes you about an hour when traffic is factored in....runs around 60 miles, goes by the Airport on the Kentucky side of the river. That's not even my favorite Cincy highway....that would be the Ohio-562 Norwood freeway...only runs like 8 miles....but it connects 75 to 71 and ends by a huge strip mall. The Reagan freeway is cool too....but not as cool as the 562, at least to me, lol.
