One of the greatest bands ever!God bless you, Miles Davis!

this is driving in the pocket drumming, that's what he excelled at (still does), and that's why Miles hired him. Nothing to do with the "jazz scene" Wellman cut his teeth on Go-Go. Great pocket players have a certain feel while locking the tempo in, it's not as easy as it sounds, he maintains that driving high-energy groove for over 10 minutes without faltering, that's a feat in itself.

As ABSOLUELY INCREDIBLE as this video is, YOU JUST HAD TO BE THERE TO EXPERIENCE THE ENERGY LIVE! It was my first time seeing Miles live. I saw him again a year or two after that. The medley played here are "One Phone Call/Street . Scenes/Intruder" R.I.P. Miles and Ricky Wellman. MILES FOREVER!!

Yesterday I`ve seen Kenny Garrett live. Guys, the music - their spirit - this is the real deal. What Miles passed to his musicians is way beyond anything you can imagine. Read the booklets, see the interviews and listen and play for years and you might get an idea of what is "the zone"... Peace ;-)

"The abundance of FM synth tones in 80's fusion is somewhat unfortunate, just have to ignore them and it's not so bad. " Well said, Digimaton... I have to agree with you, even though I'm a bigger fan of the 70-75 period myself. I love Henderson and Foster, but these guys are pretty good, too...

Haha, all you "boomers"! I think you have to evolve as Miles did in the '80s. I mean, if you still don't get it after 2000, I think you'll never do it! Sad. Because this is what i most like by Miles . . . The '80s and late '80s till the last concert in 91...

@@paolahantar2811 well said. It's long overdue that this period of Miles gets it's respect. He made powerful and vital music right up til the end with some of the most exciting lineups in the business.

@pattilakes I think this ultimate groove experience is not on the Tutu deluxe edition. The groove here is Daryll Jones and Ricky Wellman - Tutu deluxe is a different setup. There is a cd "last concert - live in Avignion" that sounds close but is bad mixed (keys way too loud)...This tune makes me grab my bass instantly!

these guys are certainly pretty good too, plus whatever the naysayers might say about Miles in the 80's, he did his own thing, found his own sound, and got some of best in the business to play it. Who else could have pulled off Jazz-Funk-Go Go at that time?

Sure, the first years of the electric era certainly can't be surpassed. But fake? this rocks as hard as any of the Fortune, Cosey, Lucas, Henderson, Foster, Mtume era stuff, it's just a different generation of great musicians, all of whom were for real. The abundance of FM synth tones in 80's fusion is somewhat unfortunate, just have to ignore them and it's not so bad.

@pattilakes @digimaton do yourself a favour and check out the complete Montreux live cd box set - if you like this you will not regret it; one phonecall (furiously paced - compare to Miles in Montreal '85 becomes a Prince tune and then really takes off Out There... ('Nam style)
