This gig was just about one month before release of " 'Round About Midnight" and about year and half before " Milestones". One can hear that concept for those records was already fully developed and tested before live audience, unlike many records today, where musicians get to know the music in the recording studio and likely never or rarely play it again. Thanks very much!

This is 2 months before trane and philly got fired from miles in april 57 for lateness and other effects of being heroin addicts- This is a timely recording, hearing how trane was playing just before getting fired, then quitting both heroin/alcohol that marked the beginning of tranes ascent towards greatness

Just curious--does anyone know the street address of where The Peacock Alley Lounge was located? From what I've seen online, it was previously called "The Glass Bar" and was located somewhere on Delmar. Thanks for posting this important historical document.

Yeah Trane sounds a little off, maybe right before he cleaned up.

Yup, around two months before. You can definitely hear where he’s about to go musically when he breaks his addiction, but it’s not quite the same. By the time he gets clean around April ‘57, he’s playing on another level. Of course his playing prior is still miles beyond the ability that many players, myself included, could ever hope to play at. That’s just how truly special he was!
