Awesome collection! I read his autobiography in the early 90’s and started listening to a lot of his albums. I really liked Sketches back then. I couldn’t get into “Bitches” but recently I’ve heard some cuts off it and I really like what I’ve heard. I would like to get a true analog copy of it. Digital MOFI really doesn’t grab me. The price is the same as my “Kind of Blue” 45 rpm which is unbelievable and true AAA. So, I’ll go on a search. Also, not attracted to spend $60 and up for ring wear”Bitches” cover. Maybe a Japanese pressing? I don’t know. Anyways, thanks for your video. I like when you focus on a particular artist. Your Zappa one was historic!

I really enjoyed your review of your Miles Davis collection. I have an entire shelf dedicated to Miles Davis albums, including a 12 LP box set called "Chronicle: The Complete Prestige Recordings". It was actually "Bitches Brew" that turned me into a Miles Davis fan when it came out in 1970. I STILL listen to that album on a regular basis all these years later (in fact I'm listening to the MOFI version right now) and it sounds just as good, just as mind-blowing as it ever did. I also have that 40th Anniversary box set as well as a "Legacy" reissue. So that was my starting point, and when I began collecting Miles music I went backwards (and forwards) from there. Listening to Miles Davis is a source of endless renewal and discovery. The more you listen, the more you hear ... I guess that's how it is with truly great artists. Thank you for this video!

Hello, I have seen Miles Davis on stage several times in France. I like the 63/68 period and the electronic period is called electric up to 75. Of course, all the classics are wonderful. I have a weakness for the second quintet. and the electrical period.

Hi Jonas, another great video. It was interesting to realize how many of his later 70s releases were basically “from the vault” outtakes collections. But I guess that makes sense as he was not that well around then if I remember correctly. Cool to see the box sets as well. Those Prestige 10” reissues are sweet!
@SublimMedia
@SublimMedia 2 жыл бұрын
I think you are right. He was not producing any music at all so they took what they had. He was still selling a lot of records I guess so anything would have a pretty dime to it’s name that they released. But luckily most of it is top quality 😀

Name top three is very hard of course, in part as for me, two are 'musts'; 'Kind of Blue' and 'Birth of the Cool', so it becomes all about position #3, which depends on the day, and today, I will say 'Relaxin'

Thank you for the kind words. I have given the one step of Sketches a thought and I think I’ll try to go for the ordinary mofi with hope that it goes down a little bit in price once the one step is released but I don’t know. Thanks again for watching and commenting.

Jonas, you obviously share my huge enthusiasm for Miles, I've been collecting Davis for many years, I'm much older than you but I'd like to share some of my current Miles favorites: Davis's improvisational sound track to the movie "Ascenseur pour L'echafaud", Its a three record 10" set on "fontana" and just wonderful and being a huge fan of Jeanne Moreau the DVD is exquisite, so you can get the DVD or the vinyl or both. Only last week I found in a thrift shop, Miles Davis & John Coltrane Live in Stockholm 1960, on Jazz from Sweden Dragon records, Its wonderful and how a Swedish record got into a Legh-on-Sea thrift shop for £2 I don't know, in pristine condition as well. Next Tutu, love Tutu if only for Miles's rendition of Cindy Lauper's "Time After Time, which apparently Cindy thought Miles's track was better than hers. Just bye the way at 35 minuets you didn't know the English word for , It's a "Contact Sheet" where 35mm developed film is just laid on photo paper and exposed, also my Swedish is crape. Great post Jonas, really enjoyed it and would love you to repeat for a single artist .... perhaps Sonny Rollins? Look forward to seeing you soon, take care and stay safe Robert.

Wow. Thanks so much for the long comment. I think we have a record. I’m so honored that you took the time to not only see the entire thing but to comment so in depth as well. The soundtrack I think is on that double take of Miles and second side with Art Blakey m, I sent it. Great one if it’s that one I’m thinking of. I believe he had a great time in Paris and that the people treated him like the star that he was. I read that when he came back to the states he was just another low life in the eyes of the people. Tutu is one I haven’t sold. It’s good but I don’t think I share your exact enthusiasm. But we don’t have to. Miles made sooooo many records so there are favorites to pick for everyone 😀😀 I have embarrassingly few records with Rollins. But I think I can squeeze in a Coltrane, Coleman or Cherry. 😀

My entire Miles Vinyls number 10, 59-74 era, which might be 5/6 too many ? He generated quite a few poor or average Lp's. Sketches of Spain might get in a top 1000 list of mine? Beautiful record. His 'nasty' psyche has not helped one listen to his tunes over the years, or as often. I ought to sell some off as they go for $$$ now.
