SHOP & APPRAISE WITH ME | RESELLER VALUES | ANTIQUES & VINTAGE
Surprises abound at the Appalachian appraisal fair, which tells us there's potential to be found in local vintage shopping! We take a quick shopping break in the local vendor's mall before we start back on the appraisals, and are delighted to find some goodies we can resell (and collect), some priced to rival the thrift stores. A terrific modernist enamel compote, a sparkling Manhattan tab handled bowl and a glass that can do over 100 catch our eye.
Back at the appraisal fair, errors and mistakes are the order of the day! A misprinted $50, a three-legged Buffalo and a not-quite-right Pokemon card show us that perfect isn't always as good as glorious imperfection! Some really heavy and mysterious things appear...one turns out to be 300 million years old and better known to local collectors than those of us passing through. It's so great to get to learn something new, even while I'm sharing my knowledge!
There's a lot of fun vintage items in this appraisal fair, from 1960s swung vases and a 1970s owl clock to important sports memorabilia. But the biggest surprise is so valuable, it can't be disclosed for security reasons! Surprises are what make giving (and watching) appraisal fairs so entertaining...you'll find more with us as this video rolls.

Hi George! I love watching and listening to you, your knowledge is amazing, I'm 66 and have collected for a long time. I have three little grand daughters, ages 7-10 who spend the night with me on the weekends, at bedtime we always snuggle and watch a movie together, I watch your videos while they are getting ready for bed, and now instead of a movie, they say " let's watch George! " Not only do they watch you, they listen! They ask me questions about the things you are showing, clearly developing an interest and I can tell each of them have their own "styles" but enjoy knowing the history of everything, which makes this Nana so happy! For our next outing, they have asked me to take them to a flea market, I wanted to share this with you, and thank you for being you!

The carved stone seems like it "might" be a Snake-Witch Stone, or a Smiss Stone. They were made as memorial stones in Appalachia in early times from the pagan Swedes and Germanic settlers...according to old folklore from my kin out of Bluefield and down through Hazard KY. My heritage is melungeon and much of the non-Christian folklore was lost generations ago. There's an old story that was passed down about the Snake and the Sword ;)

The carved stone with the snake and letters looks like what would be a Rune Stone. A practice from the Iron Age, time of the Vikings, 6th to 12th century. However the odds of Vikings in Kentucky... fairly low. But it very much could be a memorial made by someone with Germanic heritage in the last hundred years.

@47:16the carved stone looks Norse. It has a Thor’s hammer, and the Runes were often contained in a serpentine shape. There are tricks to deciphering the Runes, as they weren’t necessarily read in one direction…the directions could change more than once, and they had count back marks that could carry a separate message or point out the “power Runes” of the carving. I could read it given clear photos and a little time. I’m glad you advised the owner not to coat it.🖤🇨🇦🖤🇨🇦

Curious how much it's worth, but would never part w/ it bcuz when i'm gone it's going to my stepdaughters. It's in excellent condition, the binding & all, the pages are intact & connected. It's always a question in the antique business as to the difference between theft and salvage...do you leave something to be forgotten because it has some traceable ownership, or is it abandoned and otherwise would be lost to time? Appalachia has largely depopulated in this county, so my impression was that it was from an abandoned homestead up the hill from them...the tops of hollers often lose homesteads first because they're the farthest from services. The fact that it wasn't completely finished indicated to me that it was a project left behind, so in this case I might consider it salvage. Then there's the question of whether it was Native American and thus of archaeological value where it should be left in place. I think the unfinished nature of the piece and the disconnect in design between it and other items I saw of Native American origin in that region make me feel this is not an issue. Again, it's always a fine line we walk, I always quiz people a lot as to how they got things before I buy anything for that reason.

On that stone from the mountains. From what I can see from the writing looks like Elder Futhark which is old Norse. The only reason I why I say that is, because the only symbol I can see clearly is called Othala. But the rest do seem to be of other Norse letters I just can't make them out. The one with the snake. If it is really Norse and then that could be priceless. And researchers might want to excavate or look around the area it was found. It wouldn't be the first time something like that was found in North America. But it would be of very few. Perhaps you might have the info of the people that found it and should have them take to a expert or a museum?

Hey, Tracy, thank you. I think I picked up my pitcher for $4. Was hoping to sell it, but I kept finding uses for it so it is mine😊

You got a great deal! The pitcher got me started too. I paid $12.99 for the bowl I think, the larger tab handled bowl is worth around $25 these days in clear

How can they do that without seeing it in person? Chinese porcelain marks are very tricky to read...

@@TheAntiqueNomad They are tricky but this is the guy for Asian art. I have been watching him for a year or two. He is extremely reputable and is known by all the big auction houses. I've seen him talk about a vase on ebay and once he says it looks real the price goes from nothing to full value. His word is gold in Asian art. He has a KZbin channel

Love you and your channel...we are close to the same age so I know you will understand what I am thinking. You may not be aware of just how many commercials are flooding your videos, but it's worse than any network, tv, or radio station I have heard or watched. Great channel but in my opinion, way too many advertisements. Just fyi. Thanks George

Hi there! I do hear about the number of ads KZbin places on my stuff. I don't add more, so it really is what they determine. From what I"ve been told, they don't show everyone ads at every break, so for some reason they've either decided you really like them, or they're trying to badger you into getting a Premium account so you don't see ads.
