When you sit back and think about it... the amount Square expanded the FF7 Universe and Lore is STAGGERING!! I don't look at any of the main characters the same way anymore... in a good way.

For me, it was less about how they expanded the main characters, even though they did, it was the side characters getting so fleshed out. In the OG FF7, I just felt bad for Barret after the sector 7 plate came down. In both Remake and Rebirth, we got to know Biggs, Wedge and especially Jessie, so it hit so much harder. Also other side characters like Johnny, Dio and Bugenhagen.

For real, I was legit hoping they were going to make him a new party member by 3, to the point that I was actually mad during his Hojo cutscene because I thought it was a sucky writing choice ("You were supposed to leave Shinra and seek us out to become stronger, not take this shortcut!") But by this point, empathy had kicked in (at the end of the day, SOLDIER's gonna SOLDIER), and that line just broke me.

In the OG, the city of the ancients theme gave a “you’re not supposed to be here” vibe. In this game? Shit just got real. Your party is split up, cloud is going absolutely crazy, and the groups don’t know if they’ll make it out alive. Perfect use of the music. Plus, the one winged angle part is perfect as it signifies aerith and sephiroth battling on a much grander scale. The theme of the ancients and the one winged angel trying to drown each other out

Am I the only one who thinks this trio Cloud, Tifa and Barret have always one of the best fighting moments together?! They stood out to me on the ship with the first Jenova fight and now with the turks again. I just love this OG Avalanche energy we get a lot. Tifa and Cloud there’s not much to say, their combo attack with the dragon and chemistry in generelle is just perfect, but I also love Tifa and Barrets moments, I think they’re soo underrated. Tifa and Barret are really interesting together, you can see a lot of unspoken words between them, they communicate trough eyes a lot and Barret always knows what tifa’s thinking.

This trio in particular is very strong for all the reasons you brought up here but it cannot be understated how great the character work is between every single character in the party. Even if it is a single passing moment everyone in the party has either a meaningful or entertaining moment with someone else in the group. Love this game so much!

Tifa speaking with just a look has been a thing for a while - there's that bit in Advent Children where they're all throwing Cloud towards Bahamut SIN and Tifa gives him a 10 minute motivational speech condensed into a two second "don't fuck this up or we're all dead" look.

that's true but with barret and tifa it's actually not so in the forefront, like how it's with tifa and cloud or tifa and aerith. In the end everyone has good chemistry in the party, but some have a more deeper understanding for each other or moments together that stands out to me, like aerith and nanaki or tifa and barret (very underrated examples) and I just love the small details with barret and tifa. Like with the cave scene where that robe fell and everyone was like, well we can't do much about it but barret immediatly knew that it would bother tifa so much, he voluntarily went down to check or he immediatly knew, that cloud and tifa faught in the beginning, or he's just always looking at tifa, from the side, when something is wrong with cloud. I just feel like no one is paying that much attention to tifas small behaviours like barret is, except of cours cloud but tifa and cloud have the deepest connections and aerith is always with tifa they talk a lot about stuff. But she knows cloud and barret the longest of the party. So they have a different vibe, especially when they're a trio and there's the Avalanche nostalgia :( But yeah I just never hear a lot about barrets and tifas relationship , so that's why I pointed at the trio and especially them two :)

Chapter 13. This is where I began to feel severely anxious. The characters "trials" were emotionally difficult to endure, especially Aerith's. A good way to introduce chapter 14 I guess, as the player is already emotionally weakened. Also, a funny detail but in French, Gilgamesh's ultimate attack is called Final Fantasy.

I absolutely LOVED how Temple of the Ancients was reimagined. I know some people think it went on too long…but think about this: no other “dungeon” in the game lasted this long. It was the first and final one. Historically speaking, your final dungeon is going to be the longest. The only slight disappointment I have is that you don’t explore City of Ancients but in OG it’s only a couple screens anyway: plus it might be getting expanded on the revisit in Pt. 3.

Temple of the Aincents is such a great dungeon it's epic and gets everyone involved, The music during the Aerith sections is magical. I love the contrasting stories with team avalanche having to deal with Cloud going crazy while Yuffie and Red are supporting Aerith through her trials.

in the Japanese version, due to Renos voice actor passed away, they can not let Reno voice too much. Still, they savaged old lines from Advent Children and Crisis Core (if I remembered correctly). And use it again in Rebirth I guess sorry for the plot and all non Japanese players, due to an actor passed away the plot has changed quite a bit for Reno. Many of his original lines are now belongs to Elena

I also love the change to Shinra enacting a full-on siege of the temple and the temple turning everyone's senses and laws of geometry against them.

Just pointing out the similarities to the whispers and the Cetra in the Temple of the ancients. That and how they used classic Final Fantasy characters to depict them. It made sense seeing as FFVII was an evolution from those themes. That said, the FFVII characters are now older (IRL years) than the 'classic' Final Fantasy era Mages were in 1997. It's not to say that I think Midgar is the new 'Temple of the Ancients'. Rather, it is to say that similar plot devices are at play. Which makes sense from a storytelling standpoint 👍🏻.

It wasn't about him becoming a legend like sephiroth or the others. At least that's how I see it. He wanted to go beyond his limits. To feel that last rush. Something he could take with him to death. Cloud seemed to understand that when the time came. Gave him what Roach wanted. Nothing could be more perfect for Roach. I'm sure even now, what's left of him, still has strong memories because of the fights. Like a glimmer from a jewel touched by light trapped within the husk he is now. But yeah, fuck hojo.

This is so funny, somehow authors got us thinking all this time that the whispers have "helped" our heroes to get in here, but it has been Sephiroth all this time, threading and weaving his ultimate goal giving the false illusion of free will through everyone's lack of understanding of how the lifestream actually works. I don't get how anyone could be pissed at the story, is very well put together doesn't feel off or pushy, at contrary its intrigue appears to be very well justified since the remake of the series. I'm so hooked for part 3.

Has anyone else noticed the lack of "mako shards" that pop from boxes in this game versus Remake? Watching Max's playthroughs of both so far, I remember Remakes' boxes were constantly dropping shards to refill HP amd MP without using items or benches. In Rebirth, I think here in Temple of the Ancients is the first--maybe second--time I've seen it. I suspect the main reason for that is balance, but a part of me wonders if it doesn't also flow into world building. Midgar, home of Shinra with 7 or 8 reactors, has so much mako drawn and processd--manipukated--into one place that constantly finding random shards of it makes sense. Outside of Midgar, though, where nature is more in balance, it's not concentrated like that unless it'a a lifespring or random materia. Now in Temple of the Ancients we're seeing them again. Why? Maybe because the Cetra manipulated Lifestream enwrgy with magic the same was Shira does but with tech. As a result, mako shards are found in both areas. Maybe. 🤔

I'd say balance, the ancients forgot to install benches in their temple so you kinda need it more here as opposed to the open world where at any given moment you're literally seconds away from a full heal, but your lore reason also works

So it looks like Hojo is intentionally creating the robed men for homecoming. Maybe the first few were accidental mako poisoning, but now that we saw Roche in Hojo's lab getting injected, hearing Hojo on the helicopter talking about the final showdown, and now seeing Roche as a robed man it's pretty clear they're not accidents, they were made to be that way

Its a sign of great game design like Elden Ring where you can beat any boss, any level. If you grasp the mechanics completely. That, and he uses quick actions so much that he struggles when he actually uses the command menu, he'll go in and out of menus, zoom up and down the list of abilities, get paralyzed by choice and occasionally either back out without doing anything or just making a bizarre choice (healing the wrong person, extra unbridled strength, summon the moogle when he's on the moogle,etc). Although in his defense, I wish there was a way to edit the abilities menu to either hide and/or reorder skills/spells

Finished the game and really liked it. The original meant a lot to me and I enjoy Square's dedication to expanding FF7. But the remake added some story elements that made me wonder where the story was going since its not a carbon copy. I trusted Rebirth at first because it was just so amazing to me. But I have to admit after finishing I'm less skeptical of the new story changes and direction. I feel at this point like they are just jumping the shark.

Not many games have made feel like I have been on a real adventure travelling the world as mucj as this game has. Witcher 3, botw, totk and xenoblade chronicles 2 are the only games that really compete in the last 15 years for me.

If you pause at 1:04:08 it looks like the white materia is summoned by aerith?! I thought aeriths materia was clear at this point so what does this mean? Could just be nothing but still pretty cool.

I don’t think that’s the materia, just another visual effect. If you look in the background there’s lot of circles and that one was just closer so it looked bigger

Maybe they will make up for it with knights of the round. Would fit with how Gilgamesh was unlocked. Each knight possibly being separate quest. Though, when summoned, they were really powerful. Each having a hit on the enemies. One hit per knight during their ultimate.

such a long temple to cap off the game, was surprised how it felt like it kept going. hated fighting those ancient dragons, everything was really tense across the dungeon and what was going to come next. the showdown with the turks is so dern great. lotta big boss encounters here just overall really well done final dungeon also lol Max really looked away from the tower collapsing and why in the world would you use Barret's POINT BLANK from halfway across the battlefield XD

I actually wished they used it more, or at least something like it. Like when Barrett and Red separate themselves in the mountain to go check on a black robe, only to meet up with the group, only to then get separated again but this time you follow Barrett. It would have made more sense to do a "several hours prior" situation.

Cloud has mako powered pomade, and Aerith and Tifa both have ponytails. Only half joking, Clouds hair is too iconic to ever be out of place, and Yuffies hairstyle is just much simpler and easier to animate while still maintaining its style

@aaronlebeauf423 did you check which side of the arena he fired at? Sometimes he starts opposite of himself. And of course his chest regenerates everytime he uses smolder. Otherwise yea that sounds like a glitch.
