It’s a sysex file that will import all the patches exactly as you hear them onto your prophet 6! From the instructions: this file of 50 patches will overwrite 400-499 on your P6 (that’s just how sequentials export tool works, so make sure to back up or move any patches you have there. You will need to connect your midi USB port on P6 to your computer to install these”

Ugh really debating if I should sell my P6 for the new P5 but I keep coming back to the fear that I would miss so many of the features that the P6 has over the P5 (Effects, arpeggiator, Sequencer, hi pass Filter, distortion, negative envelopes, variable wave shapes, etc). Then of course I would need to spend more money on external gear to compensate for those missing things on the P5. Ugh such a tough call.

Haha sadly I can't help you cause i am in the exact same boat... to be honest I am leaning towards selling the P6 to fund a P5/10 because of how wonderful my experience with the OB-X8 has been. I don't miss the digital effects/sequencer at all, and the size of the knobs and ergonomics really makes a big difference. The high pass filter and the distortion of the P6 is so amazing though and those are the main things keeping me on the fence, I wish the P5 had a HPF and Dist!

Thank you so much! Late reply but I had an enticing trade offer come up for my Prophet 6 and went for it, since I find my 3rd Wave can get really close. But of all the synths I've sold (lots) I really regret the Prophet, I love it and will for sure one day add another one (probably go for the 5 this time)

Both great choices! Prophet 6 is just classic and will last your entire life for any genre of music you make. Great for boards of canada sounds. Moog Matriarch is deeper for exploration but much more limiting if its your only synth. I sold my Matriarch if that helps.

For any of the Dave Smith synths you need a 3rd party librarian software to move patches around, the way they designed the synth makes it so that you can't load patches anywhere other than where they were originally designed without a librarian. I heard soundtower makes a good one

Question for you…I’m assuming a lot of these patches make use of Vintage Mode. Do the patches themselves trigger Vintage Mode “on”? Or do I have to turn it on Globally first?

Hey Miles. Would you recommend the Prophet 6 or Matriarch for a first/only synth? I'd like to eventually own both but can only start with one at a time. BTW, this is hands down the most beautiful I have heard the Prophet 6 sound. You are an insanely good sound designer. Will you ever be releasing a Sound Design course online? I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Thank you Josh! I sold my Matriarch partly to fund my Prophet 6, and while I do miss the Moog, I have no regrets. Matriarch sounds incredible (raw tone is nicer than P6), and the modular side is really cool, but it has a really distinct midrange forward sound character that made it less flexible for the music I make. Prophet 6 is no joke the easiest synth to mix into my songs and works for virtually any genre. You will never outgrow it, even though it’s simpler on the surface. If you like the P6 sound, that’s my choice. Also I’ve gotten requests for a course, I’ll keep it in mind for future!

I have the OB-X8 now. Is the Prophet 6 or Trigon going to serve a better complementary keyboard to my Power Station in anyone’s opinion out there? Trying to create ambient music to accompany abstract videos

I haven’t played the Trigon but it sounds pretty amazing! It’s a bit deeper than the Prophet 6 with the extra osc, but the P6 is going to be a classic forever because of how well it works for any genre you need. I’d personally not trade my P6 for a Trigon, I love it

Would you be able to explain to me what settings you have on the prophet 6 for that very first patch in the video called memories of summers ago, I just bought a prophet rev 2 and I’m curious how you have that smooth sound with the wobble. Was hoping you may tell me how to get the sound on that patch.

Don’t have overthink it! Just make sure your pitch mod is a sine or triangle and it’s subtle and slow. Easy to overdo the seasick sound if you aren’t careful. Also the prophet 6 vintage knob I use a ton to add life to patches

Hey Jasper! Good question - I think the Prophet sounds ever so slightly better for retro sounds, and the filter is better. But Prologue is more versatile, has almost 3x more voices, and can get much weirder for sound design. I actually just posted a retro sound poly synth comparison today, check it out!

Im scratching my head here! I bought these for the Prophet 6 and im actually getting different sounds out of this pack? the key seems to be off when I play, I thought it was odd so I tried to play along with what YOU were playing in the first 2 and its totally off? any ideas? FYI I did make sure my transpose up/down matched your prophet 6 while I was playing. any help would be greatly appreciated

Hey! Make sure to update your firmware to the official newest one that supports vintage mode. Also, then make sure vintage mode is enabled. Otherwise the sounds won’t work properly, all of them use vintage mode, none of them use the old firmware “slop” feature. Hope that helps!
