Love the MaagEQ! I even use it to cut sometimes! If you don’t have UAD Apollo then Plugin Alliance version is the one to grab: i even think the PA version gives UAD’s a run for its money🔥
@devinbelangermusic2 ай бұрын
Great tip! FYI the UAD one is the Plugin Alliance one, they just licensed it from them, but now that you can get it right from Plugin Alliance for cheaper, you are right that's 100% the move!

well explained and informative round up. How do you compare battery to Logic drum synths and samplers?
@devinbelangermusic2 ай бұрын
@@sanaksanandan thanks! Logic Drum Machine Designer is finally at the level where it’s a solid replacement for Battery, but Ultrabeat or Sampler was not cutting it imo. I still think UI speed is crucial for drum machines, and logic is far behind ableton and fl still, so I stick to battery

Take a look at Generate. An excellent synth with a different character. Cherry Audio’s new Atomika synth is excellent. You might like the plugins from Slate and Ash. What about Rhodes type VSTs? Filterverse from Polyverse looks really cool too.

I've never even heard of Generate! What a cool sounding synth. The UI kind of hurts my eyes. How do you find working in it? Slate and Ash look sweet, never played em. I have Filtron, but never heard of Filterverse, that looks excellent. Finally, Cherry Audio has been recommended to me a fair bit. I have the G Force stuff and already don't use it as much as I could because I love my hardware, but I'll take another look at Cherry to see if anything pops out!

Check out Plugin Alliance Vertigo VSM3 saturator and distortion plugin on your sequential oberheim synths, to me it sounds like magic, even better then the blackbox and decapitator that I find better for the Moog synths.

Curious on your thoughts on use of harmonic exciters to make software to sound more alive like and hardware like? I tend to reach for Audio Thing Type A and Type B quite often. Also good for that "insta-cut-thru-mix" magic.
@devinbelangermusic2 ай бұрын
Good question! I don't like exciters personally, though my sample size is very small (pretty much just waves and ozone). I find they hype up the high end in a cheap sounding way. For me, I use Decapitator or Studer Tape to make software sound more analog. Tons of research and to me, those two plugins sound the most like tracking hardware. What exciter do you like? I owe them a second chance!
@AudioLomtik2 ай бұрын
@@devinbelangermusic I like Type A and Type B by AudioThing.. I've tried a few others (including the Ozone one) and none of them really grabbed me the same way. I think they are best used at very subtle settings, and when not overdone its the specific way they create their presence/air/color that can sound so good. Actually now that I think about it, I was never really drawn to exciters before I found those two and I haven't had a reason to look elsewhere since.

Hi Miles, please your thoughts on omnisphere…. i already own serum, diva, v9 collection, native komplete ultimate. Omnisphere become overkill or its a complement? Also have sub37 and rev2 witch are in the omnisphere list of integration
@devinbelangermusic2 ай бұрын
Incredible synth. Seriously one of the best. BUT I personally never use it, as it doesn't fit my workflow right now. Watch some videos on designing sounds and see if you like the look of it, because as a preset machine its overpriced. But if you are going to design your own sounds with your synths as a controller, then its the best of the best
@AVCOME2 ай бұрын
@ this is the best answer i can get. You put the finger on it ….thank you
@JohnnyADi2 ай бұрын
I prefer hardware full stop. Only reason I get vsts are for the acoustic cinematic scoring orchestral stuff, and boy thats a big mess. At least hardware synths are updated and is easier to fix issues. A lot of digital vsts like omnisphere and serum look like they are easy to use and have no issues, like nothing can replace them. Trying to replicate acoustic is even harder than trying to replicate analog.
@devinbelangermusic2 ай бұрын
Me too! Hardware for synths is truly luxury, its very hard to go back once you are lucky enough to have a setup. But totally agree, VSTs for sampling are by far the way to go right now. Some of my single kontakt keyswitch patches for a horn wouldn't even fit in the flagship hardware samplers.
