I just picked up a second hand Prologue as my first ever hardware synth a few weeks ago and i've spent most days since just playing and listening to what it creates. As a pianist first and producer second, this compared to the minilogue or monologue felt more in line with me. Love seeing the positive feedback on it and the fact that its discontinued kinda makes it extra special if you ask me :)

Yeah. I got a late start in this world (it took me a while to get my own money and time to this) and learned a lot about subtractive synthesis with Minilogue OG, 8 years ago. Then I migrated to Prologue a few months after it was released. Today the Prologue, JDXA and MatrixBrute trio take me into different but complementary territories via Midi or CV. I still keep a Casio XWG1 multimbral monosynth to split the keyboard into samplers and make grooves on ensemble recordings on the RC 505 MK2 Loopstation. Thanks for sharing!

Thank YOU! Wow! Finally a fellow synthesist who calls it straight. Comments like you make about the Oberheim ObX8 being awesome sounding despite the 'feature gap' (my words) and the truth you show about both the Motor Synth and the Erica are what NO ONE else is saying! My first synth was a Moog Prodigy purchased in 1982 when I was a sophomore in HS was the beginning of the end! My love of synthesis continues today (now 58 years old) and I'm buying a Moog Muse, because it 'speaks to me' I own too many to list... I'm not interested in how it compares to the Hydrasynth or whatever. it's about tonal character and inspiration. If you haven't reviewed the Muse, Please do so. Good Stuff dude! Keep it up!

Some real surprises in there! My personal fave 2-3 are my Moog One, which I got the same experience you did with the OBX-8 where I just sat down, started playing sounds and was grinning from ear to ear. After that it would be a Rev-2, which I replaced with my Moog One, but I'd still say the Rev-2 was the most inspirational synth I've ever owned. There are probably a few dozen songs I have done at this point that started as jamming with a preset on the Rev-2. After those two, I'd put the Super 6, which just always sounds good and has enough room to explore without getting overwhelmed.

The MOOG Muse has such an intuitive UI. Of all of the synths I own the Muse gave me a much better understanding of creating sounds and it’s pretty simple to breakdown their preset patches and use as learning tools. It is the most fun! Next would be the OB-X8 because again it’s simple, not as simple as the Muse but the sound without effects is so incredible, it’s fun to explore it’s features and experiment creating my own sounds! Great videos as always bro!

Glad to hear! I´m considering the Muse but are hesitant due to the (to my ears) horrible presets. It must be capable to simplier, more classic retro analog sounds, right? I understand why sound designers want to showcase the Muse´s capabilities, but I would think/hope that the core tone of a classic moog would come thru - but not to my ears from what I´we heard. I´we listen to comparison to the Trigon (which I really like) and it seams that it can do and have similar tone - which would be my wish. I´d apprichiate your thoughs on this, thanx. @@MilesAwayOfficial I did edit my post to reflect OB-X8 NOT OBXa. Since they’re similar synths, my previous post stands relevant as is. I was speaking about the Oberheim without effects, though the Muse sounds great as well, and the onboard diffusion delay really takes it next level. I feel it is good for both delay and reverb own it’s own. I’m sure the Muse will really shine with your awesome pedal collection. I hope to see a Muse review by you soon! Ask MOOG directly for a unit to review. I’ve heard Zounds loan units to KZbinrs or maybe your affiliation with Perfect Circuit.

@@onathanj again I LOVE the Muse! I also have a MOOG Voyager, which in Moog’s literature, the Muse’s oscillators are modeled after. There’s two sets of presets. The factory presets and the presets that come with the update. I like both but really enjoy making my own more than I have with any other synth. I’m not sure, but theoretically I think the Muse is meant to be more modern, taking MOOG into the present and future. Whereas the Trigon, which I haven’t tried but heard KZbin demos, mimic classic MOOG especially using a ladder filter like MOOG to have an alternative to MOOG within Sequential. That being said, the Muse can make classic MOOG sounds. It’s the best of both worlds and now being a part of inMusic, I think the updates will be very interesting in a good way. Since inMusic has acquired Akai, the MPC ( I own 2) has had continued free updates improving and adding new useful features since 2018! The Muse’s (digital) diffusion delay may be inspired by Air Music’s (also inMusic) diffusion delay from Pro Tools, which is on the MPC as well. From what I read, it sounds more raw than MOOG One and has a sound closer to the Matriarch. I’ve even made some spot on Oberheim sounds with it! Most importantly it’s fun. I also have a Dave Smith Mopho x4 and most recently an Oberheim OB-X8 to fill my Sequential itch. To me, if you want the MOOG sound, get a MOOG. Get a Sequential for the Smith/Oberheim sound unless you like the workflow better over MOOG, which I can dive deeper into if you like. Either way, you with enjoy which is the point.

I've had my Muse for about a month and, agree with most here. The thing sounds absolutely beautiful at the outset. My other poly is a Rev2 and not gonna lie it sounds pretty anemic next to the absolute beastliness of the Muse, although for what it does it makes a nice counterpart and I still love how it sits in the mix pretty easily. The ironic thing about the Muse is that, if it weren't for the price point, I think it's a perfect machine to learn subtractive synthesis on. The layout is perfect and basically represents a big chunk of the history of modular gear. The arp and sequencer are both super intuitive and lean into some pretty deep generative aspects, making it a lovely accident machine. Also, at OS V1.2, there is a LOT of room for improvements, big and small. For instance, the USB A 'host' port. It serves no purpose whatsover right now, but in my mind I'm picturing plugging in a good audio interface with mic pres and having the power of those discrete components applied to literally anything. It would make a helluva vocoder, for one.

100 percent agree on the Prologue. I had mine since 2018, loved it when I got it and it still grows on me every day. It's my center piece, my go to #1, because it's nothing less than a great sounding versatile master piece of a synth. Iit's way easier to find a great sound fast than scrolling through my VST's, not to mention tweaking the sounds you want to work with. I have it paired up with my Prophet 5 mk4, which will always be what your Oberheim is to you, but the combo of those two is unbeatable.To anyone who might read this, if you have or if you get the Prologue, I truly recommend Mile's Prologue patches, adds even more to the synth. I have a feeling that Korg Prologues are currently undervalued and in the future could become very desirable synths. They sound fantastic, and you see them show up in fantastic musicians keyboard rigs (e.g. Charlie Stacey, Yusuf Dayes awesome keyboard player). I think when they came out, they didn't get the consideration they deserved because they weren't feature packed, lacking LFOs, modulation and complexity. But, when you think of a Juno 60, Prophet 5 or many other classics that are now very desirable ... simplicity combined with a fantastic characterful sound is most often what makes a classic. There aren't many modern VCO polysynths too, and the options are much more much more expensive (Prophet 6, OB-X8). As you said, character over features. The Prologue lives in the lineage of the great Korg personalities of the past. the MS-20, Mono-Poly and the Poly Six. Rich, thick, dark and dirty. It's a character that sits well with modern synth music, techno and instrumental music, guitars too.

Been loving your videos man! So I’m curious to get your input on my little dilemma here. I’m stuck deciding between the Prologue and OB-6. After watching your OB-6 vs Prologue video a couple of times, I’m leaning towards the OB-6 for its pure character and lush quality. I also saw your video comparing the TEO-5 with the OB-6/OBX8 and how the TEO-5 has the same filter plus more modulation, which got me thinking about saving up for that too. In your opinion, if I have the 3rd Wave then should I just save my money and get an OB-6 instead of the Prologue? I would love to have both of course, but I'm getting to a stage now where pretty soon I'll need to chill out with the synth purchases and get to actually making full songs with what I have 😂 Really what I’m wondering is if the 3rd Wave can cover most of what the Prologue does, or is the Prologue still worth adding? If it can’t, I’d go for a 3-tier setup with the 3rd Wave, Prologue, and TEO-5. If it can, I’d go with 3rd Wave, OB-6, and maybe a Sub37 or Matriarch to cover the Moog side of things. If you had to choose, which combo would you go for?
@MilesAwayOfficialАй бұрын
@@Dan_Delix thank you and happy to help! You honestly can’t go wrong either way. The Prologue is super cool and the filter is honestly super unique at higher resonance, but besides that, you are right, 3W is gonna do pretty much everything it does, with more voices. But the 3W can get decently close to the SEM sound too. I actually think the Matriarch is by far the least replicable on the 3W of any synth you listed. If there’s any way you can get your hands on the OBs and decide that way, it’s probably best. For full transparency, I’m gonna sell my TEO-5 now that the video is done to find new stuff. But I’m never selling the OB-6. The Prologue, though it’s in storage right now is also never getting sold.
@Dan_DelixАй бұрын
@@MilesAwayOfficialI LOVE that Prologue filter! It just sings with the resonance cranked. Yeah I think the OB-6 and Matriarch combo is gonna be the way I end up going then. I actually work at Sweetwater and luckily have the resources to get my hands on lots of these things before buying (all of the aforementioned EXCEPT the OB-6 and the TEO-5, sadface) but I’ve lost count of how many times I watched all your OB-6 videos because they helped so much in me making my decision. All that’s left to do is save! You the man Devin!

@@a.c.2211 it was for sale here for a time, but was subsequently withdrawn due to the above reason as far as I have been able to gather gather. It may be another example of the recent issue that has meant some (not all) Chase Bliss pedals are no longer allowed to be sold in Europe. @@Shred_The_Weapon great question. I specialize in modern synths. I did one video on the Kawai SX series vintage, and I’d love to feature more vintage 80s in the future, but the cost is too high right now to get in. I also don’t know how to repair vintage synths!

@MilesAwayOfficialАй бұрын
It’s great but honestly not my top choice! I actually would pick the E7 over it for a desktop MPE analog
@commodoor6549Ай бұрын
@@MilesAwayOfficial Interesting take. I really like your comparision of the E7 and the Prophet 6. I think based on your comparison, for the money, the E7 is a steal. But because I already have the OB-X8, the E7 just wouldn't fit a niche spot in my studio. On the other hand, the Deckard's Dream is probably the most unique sounding synth I have. I'm always discovering new sounds, and for me it never fails to inspire me. But if that unique sound isn't what you're looking for, I could see why someone would go for a more traditional sounding FAT synth, especially a synth like the E7 which is reasonably priced. Keep those videos coming! Cheers!

It truly is a crime that the Prologue got somehow lost, but a lot of it is Korg's own fault. The software librarian that you need to feed the third OSC with custom user built ones would never run properly - I tried it on three different machines - and Korg didnt seem to care. They had "decided" to leave the support for that to Tim Shoebridge who at some point understadably was fed up with all the questions on his channel. That said, the third programmable OSC concept is genius, but mine crashed way to often so in the end I sold my Prologue again. Korg missed a great chance there. It is truly a great sounding unique synth, but when the daily use becomes a struggle and random process, it takes all the fun out of it.

I used your affiliate link to order a TEO-5 over a month ago but they’ve been backordered. I’m tempted to cancel for an OB-X8 module instead, but that’s over twice the cost. Do you think it’s worth it over a TEO-5?
@MilesAwayOfficialАй бұрын
@@ilovecatsandsynths9702 thanks for that! It really depends on what you want. The OB-X8 to me is more enjoyable to use because of the sound and knob size , but if you are really into complex sound design you will find the TEO so much deeper. If it helps, I am likely going to trade/sell the TEO for new stuff to review on the channel (gotta keep the videos going somehow haha), but I’m keeping my X8! Both are great synths just different!
