So, you probably had the trip already. How did it go? I heard Universal was insanely crowded due to more and more guests telling Disney to get lost and running to Universal. So many of them are fed up with the Disney CEO's greedy management and the lack of quality in the theme parks. I'm so glad I had a chance to see Universal before the mass defections. I was told by a KZbinr that spring break crowds were the worst he had EVER seen! Yikes...

Great tour... but what about the lounges?
@MilesByFoot3 жыл бұрын
Sadly, I didn't touch on the lounges much in the video, so here's what I missed. Gates 1-29 (Frontier, JetBlue, Silver) have a carrier-neutral lounge run by The Club, called The Club at MCO. It's on the right as you exit the automated people mover. Entry for the day is $45. Gates 30-59 (American, United, and Spirit) feature lounges for American and United. After arriving via the APM, head straight ahead for the United lounge and gates, or left to go to the American lounge and gates. The United Club is on the right (1:59) as you go down the departure hall, and the American lounge is just past gate 51, on the left as you go down the hall. I didn't use the footage in the video that showed this, but I checked the tape, just to be sure. Gates 70-99 (Delta/SkyTeam, Int'l Carriers) host another lounge run by The Club, as well as Delta's SkyClub. Immediately after you get off the APM, in the main node of the terminal, the Delta SkyClub is to the left, and The Club at MCO is to the right. Gates 100-129 (Southwest, Alaska) don't have a lounge; if you're using either of these airlines, the only lounges available without reclearing security are in Gates 70-99. The USO lounge is on level 1 of the A-Side landside terminal. When you're on that level, you'll go left all the way down to the end. Thanks for the suggestion!

The palm trees!
@jeffc13474 жыл бұрын
Its amazing to see so many comments from people saying they love MCO. As an Orlando local I don't think its any different from most other airports, if anything its more crowded and frustrating than most (and i've been to most all of the worlds major airports). Maybe people just love Disney/Universal/Sea World and the airport reminds them of it?
@MilesByFoot4 жыл бұрын
I think that's a big part of it. MCO is rarely a transit airport; it's usually a destination, so excitement to visit Orlando and its attractions starts ramping up as soon as you land. The palm trees, the sunshine, the ads everywhere for Disney parks, all of that helps to make visitors think more fondly on the airport. It's also very nostalgic. Unlike other airports of its size, it hasn't changed that much in decades, so it still has a lot of the charm that it had when parents bringing their own children were children themselves. I know it's one of my favorite airports in the country, and I like an airport where you never forget where you are, you know? Detroit, Dallas, Atlanta...those airports could be anywhere. But not MCO! :)
@georgeellison9263 жыл бұрын
We live in south Florida but moved from DC 14 years ago. One reason people love it is because so many have gotten off the plane from somewhere cold, and step into 80 degree weather in December or January. They're dragging their winter coats that they were wearing only a few hours before, and realizing that they should have packed more shorts. And there are palm trees everywhere...

Great video. MCO can be a very daunting place to be the first time. Unfortunately, I fly there two or three times a year for business. My two favorite spots in the complex are Hyatt Regency’s upscale bar in their top floor “Hemisphere” restaurant. The views of the runway there are spectacular and the martinis are as well. The other spot is oddly United’s Club Lounge in Terminal B. It’s always crowded, because it’s rather small but the food is good and the service at their bar is quick and efficient, and it means if I’m there…I’m on my home 😂 🛫

A note to those who are visiting Universal's theme parks: if you arranged to pick up your tickets/vacation packets upon arrival, the Universal kiosks are INSIDE the airport where the main entrance hall is. You can call Universal to find out as the kiosks are small: just a podium or two with a conference table next to them. I wish they would put a sign or two with arrows pointing in the direction of the kiosks.

The last two times I went to Orlando I took Alaska and American. (My experience on American was better, though). I used the Admirals Club. MCO is a dated airport outside of Terminal C, that's true, but at least for me, that's a big part of its charm, that it's a lot like it was when I was a kid. Doesn't make the cramped gates any less frustrating, though!

My choice of wording was poor in the video; statistics I found at the time showed Orlando as the 71st largest city-proper, but I said "urban metro;" which implies an MSA, in which case your calculation is far more accurate!

Hi! Thanks for this wonderful video. Just a question, I’m arriving to Orlando in May as an international passenger for the first time. Where can my friend pick me up? Is there arrival area that my friend can wait for me? Thank you so much in advance appreciate your reply.
@MilesByFoot3 жыл бұрын
Great, and thank you! When you arrive, you'll go through customs and immigration. Most international flights arrive in Airside 4, but not all, but assuming you are, you'll exit customs and immigration, head upstairs, and take the people mover back to the main terminal. Once you're in the Atrium (04:30), you can exit on either the A-Side to the right, or B-side, to the left. If you already have your bags with you, it doesn't matter which side. The easiest way, though, is to tell your ride to meet you on whichever side corresponds to your airline. The list of A-Side airlines are at 04:47, and B-Side airlines are at 05:28 in the video. On either side, you'll go down one level to the baggage claim on Level 2. This is the best place to get picked up on either side. Have a wonderful and exciting trip! I hope it's everything you dream, and more!

@MilesByFoot2 жыл бұрын
If you're staying overnight you'll probably have to leave security. The central food court between the two main atria is probably your best bet. If its during the day, find a cozy spot in your destination terminal to set up. Make sure to keep your bags close to the wall for safety and so someone doesn't trip. Dont forget a pillow and blanket, no matter the weather. Stay safe!

2:02, I think the reason United flies to Cleveland is because the merger with Continental Airlines and United. Even IAH and EWR were major Continental hubs per-merger.
@MilesByFoot4 жыл бұрын
That's very likely. Since then, I've been to CLE, and the United presence there is still strong, so I'm certain you're right. Furthermore, other airports still support service to former hubs; for example, Delta flies to CVG, Cincinnati, even though Comair, its old regional affiliate, has been belly up for years.

I live here, MCO is my home airport. You may need to update the video, as Disney’s Magical express has been discontinued. Also, it’s easier than you explained. If your airline arrives on the A concourse, your bags will be on the A concourse. If you arrive on B, bags will be on the B side. I’ve lived here 26 years, and have never heard it described any other way.

This video was recorded nearly 3 years ago, before the pandemic, and indeed, the Magical Express is gone. What a shame! I appreciate the feedback. There's a chance I'll be back this direction within the next few months to check out MCO's new terminal. If I do, then I'll be making an updated video!

@@MilesByFoot that’s fine. I figured so. Having been a mgr at a corporate travel office, my fear is someone would fly in then go for your neck when they see no Disney Express! Travelers can be so literal! Having been to 5 continents, 2 dozen Caribbean Islands, and bring a total, complete travel geek, nerd, weirdo, I’ve learned to expect the unexpected and things may not be as you wished or thought! Sorry, should be “baby sitting” you, just don’t want any wrath coming your way! Keep on posting. I’ll keep watching!

Trying to explain this airport to people is always confusing, once you walk through it, it's not terrible.

When I flew JetBlue in 2008 I’m pretty sure they used Airside 2 at the time. Those big picture windows and ceilings are memorable. Nowadays Southwest dominates that airside.

It's true! When I was young, most flights I took through MCO passed through 2, so I have distinct memories of the terminal.
@ecoRfan4 жыл бұрын
@@MilesByFoot Yeah, I got pictures on that trip. It was with a high school group. Those big glass windows and sculpted ceilings fit real well with JetBlue's modern amenities. Southwest is a bit more basic and stripped down than that, but has some of the best crews in the business. I arrived there in 2017 on a Southwest flight but hurried through; didn't recognize it as the same airside I had for JetBlue in 2008 but clearly it was. Weather was also less pleasant the second time so it looked less bright.

Why does Airside 2 have only 2 Departure Halls?
@MilesByFoot2 жыл бұрын
That's a great question; I guess when they built it, they didn't feel there was sufficient traffic for a third? It certainly would have cost more to add it!

Hold on, I’ve traveled to MCO on Emirates before. When it was time for us to return home, flight was at Airside 4 (Terminal B Gates 70-99). But you said Emirates is served by Terminal A Gates 1-29/100-129 Airsides 1/2. How come our flight ended up at Terminal B?

Are there signs for where you go for picking up a ride share?
@MilesByFoot4 жыл бұрын
Clark, yes, there are, both inside and outside. On the second level (one down from the terminal/atrium levels), you can step outside and you'll see rallying points for Uber, Lyft, and other rideshares. They can pick you up from either Terminal A or B, though, so make sure you know which one you're using before contacting your rideshare, as you don't want to be at the wrong terminal!

I have a question when flying out of MCO on Southwest once I get my boarding pass where is that security location from there am I going to get lost I'm flying alone
@MilesByFoot4 жыл бұрын
You'll start at the ticket desk on Level 3, on the far east side (the far end of the drop-off point for that terminal from the road.) After you get your boarding pass from the desk or kiosk, head to the right. You'll take the first left you can, just past the Southwest counters, and you'll emerge into the East Atrium. The Atrium should look a lot like 04:29 in the video. Turn left from here and clear security. Once you're on the other side of security, you might have to choose to take trains on the right or left, seen in 03:35 from above. Take the left set of trains to Terminal 2. This terminal contains all Southwest flights!

I get confused. Where is the food court in relation to the big area you walk into when you arrive from overseas?
@MilesByFoot2 жыл бұрын
When you arrive from most international flights, you will clear immigration, then leave the secure side of the airport. For most airlines, this will be in Airside 4. As you leave the customs area, you'll go upstairs and take the shuttle back to the East Atrium. Walk down the hallway straight ahead, on the other side of the Atrium, and the food court from 6:18 is on the right.
