MADDEN 2003 RAMS VS BUCS:: WHY I DIDNT GET THIS GAME

2:00 "It was the same" With all due respect sir, for a video that is 8 years old that i am discovering now, madden 03 was not "the same" as Madden 02 or 01. There was a laundry list of small but important improvements from 02 to 03. Defense: 1. Gang tackling was added. In 02, a group of defenders would shoulder roll or otherwise fall down while one tackler with the ball carrier would enter an animation, and if that was a broken tackle animation, then enjoy watching the break away TD. 03 added the ability for two tacklers to engage with the ball carrier and that was HUGE. 2. In 03 you can finally pinch and spread the defensive line and linebackers instead of simply shifting them left right or back to center. 3. The CPU would do this pre-snap to make adjustments. 3. in 02, linebackers and the safeties had stone feet. They would just stand in place at the snap on run plays and wouldn't react to you running the ball to the edge until you were beyond the tackle box. That changed in 03 so that the LBs and safeties actually drop into coverage and flow against the run. 5. While "rocket catching" was still real, defenders understood how to swat at the football from angles they never did in 02 and they also wouldn't make super plays on the ball with their backs turned. Offense: 1. The biggest change was more active blocking and blocking animations. In 02, they would just lock up against one another and stay that way until the game chose to disengage the block. In 03, you see a push in either direction, feel and arms moving, the defender attempting to get off the block and some forms of small lateral movement with blocks. That made reading the block - including when they were about to fail - much better and more satisfying. 2. the passing game needed more improvements than what it got, but 03 had more head tracking, more catch animations and smooth transitions from one animation to another. Off the field In 02, in franchise mode, you are just shown all of the ratings of all of the players and sorted in order of overall. In 03 they hid the ratings and gave you scouting reports closer to real life like 40 times, bench press and so forth. yes, people figured out what the numbers correlated to, but even then EA wrote code to hide the exact rating and to lie to you - to some degree - about their performance that would be revealed if you actively scouted a player. for example, it might say "He is faster than we anticipated" or the opposite "He isn't as fast as reported/rumored." A player might be shown to be getting stronger or not as strong as we had hoped, and so forth. EA did a lot for franchise mode, and while they had a lot more to do, we are talking about trade logic, progression/regression, free agency logic and so forth. Madden 03 actually predicts certain front office moves that real life teams made, such as the Chargers not retaining Junior Seau and letting him hit free agency (where he would sign with miami), and in the game, Miami is one of he top bidders, but this was a whole year before that happened in real life. Just the game understanding a team's needs, cap space and so forth causes it to predict several roster moves that came true. No. 03 was not the same as 02. it was significantly better, and it kept getting better with 04 and 05.

04 was the purest no hit/ truck/highlight stick. I enjoyed the lead block controls on 07 but EA killed it soon after.05 was fun but the hit stick made D OP and EA juiced the super dive tackle on 05 and up. If you’re a playbook connoisseur Madden 04/05 had the best playbook, once NFL killed off 2K EA began to saturate most aspects of the game in particular playbooks thankfully we can create plays/ formations but go back and check 03/04 playbooks they were so accurate. 03/04/05 had the in game sideline reporter Melissa Starks, 05 got Tony Bruno show 04-07 Madden Royalty, still play 04 with updated rosters on my OG Xbox ✌️

4:52 This is an example of that gang tackle added to 03 that wasn't in 02 or 2k at the time. In 02, that would have been a shoulder roll by one guy and a broken tackle against the other and possibly a TD. Instead it was a beautiful tackle for only maybe 3 yards.

That's the same result I had with the Bucs in Madden 2003, you couldn't handle the 2002 Bucs. I played with the exact same team and lost big time.

In those old school games, pre-playmaker controls i.e. being able to flip the play at the LOS, the only way to run the ball was to manipulate the defense pre-snap. For instance, say you've got a counter trey to the right out of I-Formation. For one, have an audible of the same play for each side. Then, continue to call an audible until you got the defensive front seven to shift into something advantageous from a numbers standpoint for you to run. This strategy limited the variety of running plays you could run, but at least you had a running play that you could rely on.

7:00 "Every time I ran the ball, they just knew which side..." You, as a user, can motion your TE. You can also set up the CPU with strong runs so they overload and THEN call weak runs and counter runs. Also, if they overload the strong side on a strong run, *don't* press sprint. Use your agility to cut back.

I guess when I think gimmick I think like something that was truly detrimental. I thought, personally, things like the hit stick and playmaker were really helpful and in the end made madden better. But yeah definitely every unnecessary add on since like 08 has been bad, and took away from other things that should be better than they are.

Bro espn 2k5 on the og Xbox is still a great looking game. The ps2 version did it no just in terms of the visuals. The Xbox version was the definitive version in my opinion

The Xbox version did look better the Jerseys had wrinkles the ps2 was flat plus the Xbox recorded video footage of the game for the halftime report while the Ps2 showed pictures
