I love that they're doing this but I'd also love the option to just buy Static separately. That said, I'm looking forward to getting to know these characters for the first time.

If you haven’t read the other comics and plan on skipping them you’re doing yourself an absolute disservice! But tell you what, I was planning to do that very thing, skip all the other stories cuz I wasn’t familiar. But I then I cracked it open and read hardware (what people argue is the weakest out of the bunch) and it ended up being very very good! Before you knew it each story was better than the last and I was hooked! Please check this book out!

I grew up reading Captain America, Thor, Spider-Man and so on. I loved the characters and the stories. But when I saw characters like Power Man, Falcon, and Goliath it was always exciting. Why? Because representation matters. When the mentioned the comics stores in Kentucky didn’t continue having the Milestone comics is stock after issue #1 I felt weird about that. I used to collect Milestone and to see black characters as the main people and to have good stories I was excited. I’ll definitely be ordering this book soon. Thanks for the video, Omar.

People complaining it’s not an Omni but forgetting that as a compendium the price is 1/3 of an Omni meaning it will sell to a different and wider group of people. Also it’s a much easier format to print.

I'm so happy this exists, and the page quality looks decent. This is how to do diversity in a medium without pandering. It's unfortunate DC can't get it's head out of it's ass and push new ongoing milestone series WITH top-tier talent and minus an editorial agenda. Until then, I hope this sells well to warrant continuing or publishing an omnibus version.

You mean to tell me that hiring creators with decades worth of experience and a love of comics who were focused on just writing good stories produced better results than hiring rando activists with little to no experience who see the characters as just a vehicle for their message? Get outta town!

Thanks for the video dude! This has been one of the most *intriguing* books for me since it was announced. I really hope TONS of people try this out and that DC continues with future volumes to cover the entire line. I'm also slightly confused with the compilation mapping. I think most collectors and readers actually familiar with the material would have probably wanted separate books for each title. Though I suppose then you do get to the question of how to handle crossovers like Shadow War, Worlds Collide, and Long Hot Summer. Though since I've been planning years to custom bind my complete set of the original run, I think there's a decent way to do it. You'd double dip all of Shadow War at the beginning of the Shadow Cabinet book. Worlds Collide could have a separate collection, while double dipping the closely connected issues in their respective books. Long Hot Summer is a bit more complicated, but I think you'd possibly need a "Milestone Companion" type book anyway to handle some of the miniseries. But ultimately maybe this compilation approach ensures that more casual or less familiar readers will get to experience some of those lesser known books like Deathwish, Wise Son, and even the bigger Xombi. All that said, I ended up impulse buying the book after seeing some of the posts on social media and watching videos like yours and a great one from BJ Kicks, who is a massive Milestone fan. It's an interesting way to read the line in this order. Plus I want to support it so we get more. Ultimately, I think these comics are some of the most important in the history of the industry, and arguably more important than that, they're just creatively brilliant.

It is positive ti ser volume 1 and make me hope for a volume 2 (un Mexico they sell a lot of volume 1 and it has been years and the volume 2 never appear, what a shame), well thank You for the explanation. DC strikes again with their inconsistencies to give us an omnibus. But, I actually don't mind getting different characters within this book as opposed to just one character in full. It opens the door to read, and get into each of these characters at once.

Thank so much for the video, was very much looking forward to see it. I am conflicted about getting the compendium, while I love ICON specially with MD Bright´s art I find the collection lacking in the extras department. I am not asking for an omnibus but a nice hardcover similar to the Booster Gold HC which had a lot of extras. I want those types of thing with milestone, just starting with the series bible, the memos, the original designs, etc., there is so much history in milestone that I wish was included. I am glad they are collecting them but I do not see the difference of getting the in digital form.

I would love for Milestone to make an Earth-M Encyclopedia that would take everything we know and then many new facts about the world and its characters!!! i think many more people would be interested in reading the universe when they know the world surrounding the characters. I don't know if they have put their minds to this but I think if they did/do put their minds to it a bunch of new ideas that could bring in many new readers of the same and different demigraphics could be created.

Seems interesting and I love the art. How does the reading experience compare to mainstream DC at the time? I’ve been reading the Underworld Unleashed event lately, which came out around the time of these, and I’ve been finding it nearly unreadable, but I love all the Vertigo books that were coming out around this time.
@fausty6162 жыл бұрын
Milestone is kiiinda in between regular mainstream DC a the time and Vertigo. The issues in this book are circa 1993-1994 mostly (Xombi goes further due to their mapping by arcs). Many of the creators involved with Milestone were veterans of the industry with work going back to the mid-80s or even earlier. McDuffie and Cowan were coming off of a similarly smart run on Deathlok for Marvel. Cowan also had his Question work with O'Neil. Mark Bright and Christopher Priest (not actually contributing, but involved in development) did the final run on Power Man & Iron Fist. While some artists like Arvell Jones and Rich Buckler are kind of "house style" type guys of late 70s and 80s Marvel. The younger artists like John Paul Leon, ChrisCross, and Humberto Ramos were essentially being guided by these folks, so they didn't trend toward the "NINETIES" trends of contemporary Image, Marvel, and even some DC. McDuffie, who handles the bulk of the writing in this first volume, is incredible and had a great sense for characterization. If you're familiar with his work on the DCAU shows, it's not super far removed from his Milestone writing. Granted, Underworld Unleashed is Mark Waid, a legend in his own right, especially his contemporary Flash run. But I think crossover events are inherently more likely to be garbage. It depends on what you found unlikeable about UU. Did it feel dated or just bad? Milestone is like a nice mix of qualities of 80s and 90s comics. Contemporary to their era, but without a lot of the flash and lack of substance of some others.
@essaywhu2 жыл бұрын
@@fausty616 UU was probably both dated and bad. Im talking about the whole event not just the mini, which is probably ok but not great. Most of the tie-ins are of characters that never took off or don’t really exist anymore. Off the top of my head only the Starman issues that tied into the event were really entertaining at all. I’ve not read Starman before so it made me want to read the series. Anyway, the design work was atrocious on almost every character involved in UU. I feel like they were chasing the Image boys, trying to be cool, but just showed how truly nerdy they were. I feel like early Image was so bad its good but the UU designs were so bad they’re terrible.
@fabiangermanic11482 жыл бұрын
@@essaywhu Honestly? The 90's Starman run from James Robinson was epic...speaking of which I should take my own advice as I only got about 40% of the way through...for some reason...
