You know what? Looking at these lyrics, "I'm shutting down this hive. At escape velocity," "But I'm okay with shattering our ancestors' ancient dreams." I am getting the feeling that this song's place in the Miliverse could be related to Imagined Flight, possibly even Space Colony. Nevertheless, I feel like this is taking place within the modern, dystopian era where there are companies such as Twin Island Milkery that are dictating the masses with their products and propaganda if going off of the lyrics where a character is singing of how rice is everything, as well as shutting down a hive. Although, it's clear that the person/entity is suffering because of this all if going off of this: "It's been hard to breathe." "And hard to sleep." From what I can tell, this person feels trapped and wants to break free, possibly wanting others to be free too, but is finding difficulty doing so since the propaganda is so loud, overbearing, and has already been ingrained into their conscious. This is just my interpretation though. What do you guys think?
@fallen76462 жыл бұрын
Well, the lyrics also show some connections to Buddhism Amitabha is a central figure in one of the Buddhism schools, and also used in a sentence like Namo Amitabha, the one we see in the song You can also probably see the cycle of Samsara, the bee being reborn into the flower and back into a bee There's also honey, being a source of Dukkha, maybe rice is also like it
@Nara-mw3by2 жыл бұрын
Hm, true, and all the beings on tv could be seen as those trapped within the cycle of suffering. As well, there are depictions of lotus flowers, leaves/pads, and roots, which are common symbols for Buddhism. However, what's most interesting to me is the part where a series of things are wanted are requested. "GIVE ME LIFE" "GIVE ME LIGHT" "GIVE ME FIRE" "GIVE ME STORM" "GIVE ME TREES" "GIVE ME FLOWERS" "GIVE ME BEES" "GIVE ME RICE" X8 A core belief of most Buddhist schools is that suffering comes from desire after all.
@deemaske91432 жыл бұрын
@@fallen7646 interesting, but can i have some clarification please? from what i understand, amitabha is the greatest buddha who rules what seems to be some sort of equivalent of heaven, and Namo Amitabha is the sentence used to praise him Samsara is the cycle of reborn and Dukkha is the 4th truth and is about the pain, but how honey is the source of pain?

i'm so sorry, but I read *mili*verse as miiverse over and over again. i was so confused
@Neelie-Noe7 ай бұрын
Seeing the video and reading the lyrics my personal interpretation would be that our character here achieved enlightenment in the Buddhist sense, being out of the samsara cycle they can see and hear how the cycle goes for everyone else trapped within it. But in doing so, they also start to remember life and crave things the way a human would; coming to an end with the give me rice desperate set of lyrics, in which they eagerly jump back into the cycle of endless suffering just because they craved some rice. The "Honey, this is all this is everything. Everything you want all you'll ever need" feels cery strongly like the tale of Mara tempting Buddha away from enlightenment by offering him delights of the flesh, in this case the offering was the chance to experience flavor and the pleasure of Eating once again, the umami flavor, licking your fingers to taste the remnants of something you craved. The "who's out there waiting?" Also makes me think of Mara and his tempting offerings, trying to make the person fall for it Anyways, great song and amazing video 💗

So far I can see lots of Buddhist imagery here: the Lotus, hunger, rice, and the phrases "Namo Amitabha" (use by monks or visitors of the pagoda, kinda like Amen in Christianity). With the presence of TV, beehives, and the fact the mochi person is sitting on lotus leaf instead of a lotus flower like Buddha can meant that they are represented a "false" image of Buddha on media? On an interesting note, rice cakes are usually wrapped in lotus leaf or banana leaf in Asian countries. The term "Come here, I have rice" and "Everything comes from rice" is like a propaganda. And in the end the person is yelling "Give me rice", seem like they are brainwashed. To be honest I have no idea why Mochi is there apart from Mochi is made of rice, and holds a significant part in Asian culture. Hunger is also a significant thing in Buddhism, there is tales of Buddha traveling around the world in 49 days only eats 1 grain of rice a day, and another story in which a monk ascended after spending days praying, not taking any food or drink. I can only think the keywords here are: rice, Buddhism, hunger, tv or media (beehives). Someone link them together to make sense please xD, or just take it as it is, another Mili song full of metaphors.
@Fo__Sho_2 жыл бұрын
I feel like there is some war imagery going on too. The first few lines sound like they are yanking out a bomb or something, which is why the hive is being vacated. Then you have the lines about melting. At first I thought it was supposed to be kinda food related but the previous point, the line about giving up the ancestors dreams (nuclear winter type scenario?) the siren at the end and at roughly 2:59 the Black leaves don't look too dissimilar to airplanes dropping bombs. Now rice is what allowed life to be sustained in the east to begin with, so perhaps the person is pleading for their life in war? As for the honey.. It's what's left over if you'd attack a hive. Just like that alien starts crying it too...
@summerrainyseason59672 жыл бұрын
@@Fo__Sho_ Yeh it has a post-apocalypse vibe to it, right? I also noticed the seed pot at the beginning has normal lotus seeds in it. But at the end, it has turned into a wasp hive in the shape of a lotus seed pod. Honey and bee are seen as good in Buddhism though, as "monks and sages should take the bee as a wise role model as they take only what is necessary for life without causing destruction. " - referring to bee making honey. So could it be the hive at the beginning is referring to a beehive being attacked by wasp to rob their honey? I dunno if the hive at 2:00 is bee or wasp, It is hard to tell. But I think it would make more sense for its to be a wasp (i didnt research into it since i have trypophobia and those lotus pod and hives makes me want to vomit) At face value, the first mochi person appearing with "bubbling" eyes seem to be the narrator, they tried to shut down "the hive" 0:33 shown as several TV sets , but it seemed they were trapped in one during the process 0:44. Could this be referring to war like u said? In Buddhism, rice and honey can be seen as the sole food needed to sustain one self so the situation can be "famine/starvation" due to war. Did the mochi person sitting on a lotus leaf taking all the food for themselves? Or are they pretending to be a savior? "Shattering our ancestor's ancient dream", could it be referring to the desire to lure/capture people into the hive? Or is it the desire to live as a species? The more I replay the more info i get xD
@Nara-mw3by2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it is certainly something to ponder. Plus, propaganda has been touched on before in the music of Mili, mainly by Painful Death for the Lactose Intolerant, a song that's the rawest form of it in the Miliverse.
@melonmage23122 жыл бұрын
a bit late, and i also don’t think it holds too much significance, but mochi mochi is an onomatopoeia for chewing or chewy. the food mochi is derived from that onomatopoeia i think? it could be the other way around

When consciousness first arises, it craves for something. First it imagines a blank canvas, then a big bang, atom, material, light, energy,... then it craves the sweetness of something so it creates more, earth, water, warm, season, plants, animals, rice. Consciousness or the soul continues to want the sweetness of rice so it continue its journey of life and death in the form of a bee, an animal or even a human, so it can taste rice... And it changes its form all the time...
