@@Darlexis Yeah in the last major update v6.0 The Infantry Combat Overhaul was a major step to go back to the roots of Project Reality, making it alot slower paced and cooperative focused rather then run and gun. The main points of the update where: Picture in Picture scopes (Ruined performance) but made the guns alot better feeling to aim. A better suppression system, heavier calibers would make your screen blur and character flinch alot. You cant parkour anymore. Gun sway was increased. Gun recoil was increased. The players soon found out it felt like their soldiers all had parkinsons, so they've dialed back it and also fixed some low fps = bad sway.

@@shock226 pre ICO squad soldier had servos for arm joints with atom scale gyroscopes, dude could snap 90 degrees and head tap 300 meter targets in less than a second with any prior FPS experience.

I wanted to post this since there is a lot of confusion in regard to the state of “Squad”. To those of you who are not familiar with the game, the footage you guys are watching is from the game squad and it’s older footage (Before ICO) . What is ICO? The ICO ( Infantry Combat Overhaul ) was a major update that OWI (company) release to enhance core gameplay and bring their original vision of how they wanted squad to be played. What was their vision? And what made it different from the past? Squad was a game build off of the inspiration of a battlefield 2 bad company mod called PR (project reality ). The reason they released the ICO was because they were falling into the arcade style gameplay for the past couple of years and wanted to go back to their original vision. Squad was meant to be a mix of both arcade and milsim, trying to bridge the gap between the two, to avoid the repetitiveness of an arcade shooter and the complexity of a milsim shooter. Why are players mad about the ICO update? Because the update was a drastic change of gameplay, which came with its faults. A big majority of players had a hard time transitioning to the new style of gameplay. This and the many bugs it came with. The devs did listen to players feed backs holding a couple of weekend early access games to adjust the ICO update. But the update also caused major FPS drops to lower teir pc. People saying ICO killed the game? This is false, just upset people who didn’t like the update. After the ICO update the game has hit record high player counts. My thoughts? I personally like the ICO update and the new changes, but do agree that the game should have more focus on fixing the optimization issue and fps drops. Though I am luckier than most to have been able to build a higher end pc, this means I will have a different experience that other gamers with lower to mid tier pc. I respect the changes made to the game due to me being able to survive longer and having a suppression mechanic implemented which makes LMG’s and HMG’s more effective.

@@moonlae No problem, I’m happy this was informative. Hopefully this will give others a better understanding of the game. Not to mention that 8.1 is around the corner with the PMC (private military contractors) being added into the game by the end of this month. Heard they were going to overhaul the scoreboard as well to give a lot more information. But they have also confirmed that after 8.1 is released their top priority will be fixing bugs and optimization issues.

Just want to correct one little detail of yours. Project Reality was a mod for Battlefield 2 (released 2005). Not Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (which came out in 2010).

@@atloos I should also add that once Tencent purchased shares in OWI, the playerbase of Squad has been artificially inflated, with a massive amount of Chinese servers popping up with no players, just bot accounts. Fake servers, and fake accounts. ICO is garbage, and they have to conflate false statistics to cover it up.

Having them see footage of how the game is now after the ICO update would be neat. Maybe also show off the different command abilities like air strikes and artillery. Another idea would also be to have them play the game for themselves either individually or all together in a single squad perhaps?

5:49 THIS. When I play SL I have certain people (normally Americans) complain that I am not talking enough when I only use comms for orders, call-outs and sitreps. When you're sneaking through an enemy compound listening for bandaging and footsteps and you have 3 people in your squad talking about what they had for breakfast I can't hear anything.

You can't force players to play the game you wish it was instead of the game it is. That's been the biggest problem with Squad players. They want it to be something the community has decided it isn't. An update that trashed the weapon handling won't fix the fact that the playerbase is going to play it the way they want to, and how they want to play is for fun. If you want a milsim, we'll gladly have you in ARMA or PR. But that's not what Squad is for a lot of people. Stop being the annoying neighborhood kid that stamps their feet when the other kids are having fun doing something you don't want to do.

In games like Arma and Squad communication is key but what usually happens is the “leaders” start fighting over what to do and where to go… I’ve found being with 2-3 other guys is just right… anymore and people start relying on the leaders to make decisions for them… it can’t be like that, get a few buddies that you know and get along with and you’ll have some of the best fun you’ve ever had… I’ve spent hours on these games and have built some of the strongest friendships of my entire life… don’t feel overwhelmed if you don’t know what you’re doing watch a tutorial or mirror someone who does.

​​@@zionchar11nah 90% of Squad commanders don't know what they are doing period lmao, it usually comes down to one or two SLs that carry the game. I'm a logi runner and to this day I still have commanders screaming at me for setting up Logi relays to make logi runs easier for the entire team, legit last night had half the SLs screaming at me for setting up a radio and hab for a Logi relay......and then they all started praising me when that relay ended up winning us the match because I could quickly and consistently get ammo to our ATGMs and mortars

It really is a great game There's somet stuff in the gunplay I would like to change, like using BUIS or shouldered and looking oversight being an option Stamina should probably increase in recharge rate for more quick sprints with pauses for QoL But its a really solid game that I really love, it only falls down in the physics simulation for vehicles, lots of vehicles get high centered easily, and driving etc is very 2010 The ICO was great, I really like it but its something that really goes against the grain for alot of players, as they are too used to being the 'hero' when really they are the Grunts in this game. The ICO is the only system I've seen that actually makes people fear being shot at ingame, and react accordingly.

Yes, it's definitely less of a hero game and more grunt simulator. ARMA has nothing on Squad. Squad is for the hardcore, not the casuals. It's definitely not babies first MilSim with a garbage update that people refuse to acknowledge fixed literally nothing except amongst themselves outside of arguments where they'll only yell "skill issue" at players with thousands of hours SL'ing and bemoaning the lack of good squad leaders now that they left for Reforger.

For the Tanker. I guess the uk does the same with reserve fuel tanks on the back of the challenger as the Eastern block would have done it with their t series tank. So what my father told me is, that realistic speaking they were only filled to increase range for redeployment. On mission, front line or combat they would fill them up with Sand or similar stuff they get their hands on to increase armour rating and limited weak points. Though his argument makes sense for most t series tank and some bmp or bmd where they were mounted on the side or middle lower part of the back. Me on the other hand have no idea. I have no clue how the fuel of modern tanks react to heat oder hesh ammo. But at the point where you are hit at the back from something what could endanger your fuel tank, I wouldn't worry about the firestorm outside or the damage of my systems, but more about the inner compartment what is in danger. All in all, if you have to worry about your external additional fuel tank on the challenger, you are at the wrong spot with that tank anyway.

you all need to know about the mods of this game they go fucking hard. Galactic contention is the total star wars replacement and its the best starwars game ever. Global escalation - Steel division are both solid hardcore mods that add in all kinds of crazy shit and factions.

In an argument they say "skill issue", but in their hugboxes amongst other ICO fans they bemoan how people still don't communicate, there are no good SL's (they left for Reforger, and we greatly appreciate their loss for ya'll because they're amazing teammates over here), people still lone wolf, and the mechanics designed to appeal to lower skill players brought in *shocker* lower skill players that won't adapt. Then you cope with player counts, excluding the fact that two thirds of the player base are in non-ICO servers like GE, GC, ME, and SuperMod. Whenever a new update drops that breaks the mods, check the Steam Charts. Insane concurrent player drops happen. It's so satisfying seeing the vanilla players whine about players refusing to play the "correct" way, showing that people aren't interested in the mechanics and actively force their playstyle despite how ineffective it is for them. That's how much it's disliked. "But so many people were in our special pre-update servers loving it and it worked great!" Yes. The people who specifically downloaded an entirely seperate beta branch to play the update designed around team work were, in fact, engaging in team work. When it was forced into the main game, all of your longterm SL slaves bailed and left you with the mess you're in. But it's all worth it for that one in a dozen match where things kind of work, right? But what do I know. I'm just a casual run 'n gun scrub with thousands of hours in ARMA (Cold War, 2, 3, Reforger), Red Orchestra, Insurgency, Ready or Not, Squad 44, Harsh Doorstop, HLL, Insurgency, and PR. *shrug* You're not hardcore. You're the scrubs that can't hack it in the big boy games but want to LARP anyways, so you take a slightly harder core Battlefield game and break it to bring back the glory days of your dead game so you can pretend you're a gaming hotshot.

What i dislike about this video is the fact that someone used clips from people with minimum graphics and even different resolutions stretched to 1080 which just looks horrible. I cant even read some of the copass bearings. Otherwise the vid is fine (y) Edit: also this video also might be outdated. Since the whole Shooting and moving part has changed. Its very slowed down now and way more tactical because you cant just pull things off like shown in the video. So this might need an updated video in the future.
