With the utmost humble respect - there is a reason yours is the top comment on this video. You are that good. I'm responding to this comment you left above 3 years ago, so not sure if you can still get this notification but some other people have responded to my comments and I receive their reply by my email, so if you reply with a comment I will read it for sure - so here's hoping you are still on KZbin 3 years later and can see my comment! >I would say mental toughness is a large part of being a good follower. Yes you’re tired today sucks but the faster you get the job done and the better you can motivate your peers to do the same makes everybody’s life better. *This is gotten me really far in my job.* What job? Maybe you can't say what your job is, but if you could, would you say you've gotten the job done better just by motivating peers to do the same? The way I figure, what one person will be able to do in 1 month, 30 "peers" couldn't in 30 months. Bystander effect maybe? (Nobody really goes in and helps in the fight in a big way first, they stand back and watch the inevitable carnage.) I would like to ask you to take personal responsibility and do a favor for me, Sir/Ma'am. You wrote the above comment "3 years ago" so I imagine your boss is getting ready to retire by now, 20 years is long enough in public life for anyone. I would like a position from my Xo that is certainly by any standard below your position. If you still receive these notifications "3 years later", will you write a letter of reference for me by your KZbin reply to include in my application, showing that I watch the videos and read the comments of the TOP MILITARY LEADERSHIP and attempt to absorb the OPPORTUNITY and PASS IT ON IN MY OWN LIFE AND SERVICE. I would like you to please tell the story of how I read your KZbin comment and saw your approach but that I support the personal leadership of one man, who will be my ultimate Xo and do it all. Please send your letter of reference by reply to this KZbin comment (you can review my other comments if you want, I don't say much), saying that based on your interaction with me on KZbin you have confidence that I will be able to support my Xo to go where NO ONE has gone before, and if you can use formal language I can quote it would go a long way as appearance and decorum is very important. However long it takes, I won't eat or sleep until I get your recommendation, and I am certain passing along your wisdom won't go to waste and will get you really far in your next job as well, whether military or civilian everyone appreciates and needs guides, coaches, and mentors, and indeed having one can mean the difference between getting the post I've applied to or getting killed or going missing in action. Thank you and may God forever bless your work and service. Yours faithfully, Robert

I would add these to the list.... be honest/tell the truth (esp if its bad news), admit if you made a mistake or error, learn from your mistakes (don't continually make the same mistake over and over again), and "no surprises"... give a heads-up if you know something is coming up (no one in leadership want's to be surprised/last to know something).

Always take responsibility for a screw up to the boss never throw your subordinates unless he NEVER learns and do it inside the system. Another is never complain about the boss in front of subordinates or peers. Ask the boss to explain to you in private, you just may learn, I did.

Don’t procrastinate either, especially for school. If you’re in a group project don’t be the person that everyone knows is not reliable and won’t do their own work or do it poorly and last minute. Finishing your tasks on time and even sooner than expected will make you a reliable person.

@robertviragh65275 ай бұрын
>don’t be the person that everyone knows is not reliable You're right it's like a giant flashing neon sign over your head saying "LOSER". I remember the story (just a story, nothing like this would ever happen) of a fifth grader in school who did a project on the Lincoln Assassination and while he was putting his chart together, the entire time he had a bully who should have been in eighth grade already stand over him and jeer and laugh and say how late he was and how poorly it was done and how at the last minute it was done. The Bully actually didn't turn any project in that day but the neon sign lasted forever and even decades later people were saying "Oh hey I remember you, you're the late kid who did everything poorly and last minute." According to the story, the "late kid" actually graduated from medical school when he was twelve years old and later on ended up operating on his bully. When the bully woke up his first words were "what took you so long." The surgery itself had lasted 7 seconds, but the bully had to be anesthesized to shut up long enough for it to be completed. But like I said these are just stories. Have you ever met anyone like that, Bamboozler2349? Do you think it's just a myth or do some people really not know when to shut up unless they're anesthesized?

I'm currently getting ready to return to special education teaching after a deployment and my administration, who are retiring at the end of this year, want to plug me into a spot that is less beneficial for the students but allows them to lay off the long-term sub theybhad for me. I appreciate this video as it forces me to assess the situation, as this is not direct fraud or unethical but it is narrow-minded, as well as it could create legal problems next year, for not full filing IEP requirements. Thanks for putting this video to get me thinking through this from a more centered perspective.

Leaders with the mindset, “If it not my idea, then I am not going to do it,” do you continue to follow or find better leadership? As a person who manage the entire IT for the company, I am trying to bring the technology from the current DOS server to an updated system like Window server but the leader in the decision has a problem with changes. Storms out and throw a fit like child in some cases. Thank you for your videos!

Your primary responsibility is to the team and company. Your obligation is to use the tools at hand to achieve the best outcome for the goals of the team/unit/company. Even if it's not the color bulldozer or brand of pencil you prefer. Your leader's leaders have tasked him with taking care of whatever is under his command/umbrella/kale eating focus group. He has a different picture of the process than you do. The leaders above him have an even different picture. You have an obligation to present good options. They have the responsibility for dealing with implementing or shelving your suggestions. It's not about "Whose idea is it", it's about "Whose responsibility is it". Know your responsibilities - is always a good idea.

I really appreciated this advice. I think I needed it. I am partly caught up in the American mentality that to be a follower is to be a "sheep". (No slight or high-ground against western-ism intended) Ignoring that the best of what most people accomplish is being a good and competent follower, while the best leaders understand what it is like to be the same. Because they need that humility when they themselves are going to lead, but also so they can know intimately what is they can and should expect out of their followers.

Two other important traits of a good follower is positive mindset and personal accountability. As a leader, nothing is more irritating than having a team member bringing down the group's morale by constantly complaining and whining about every challenging situation. It is tiring to babysit and attempt to motivate a childish complainer. Also, I absolutely despise being assigned a team member who doesn't recognize the negative implications of personal irresponsibility and expects others to pick up his/her slack. Often times, it feels like my team would achieve more in less time without these type of toxic followers.

Hi! It is important to a follower (and for everyone) to apply critical thinking skills to given mission or a task, as there’s almost every-time something to improve on. Also the leader isn’t an expert in all fields, it is critical to a leader see this and listen to his subordinates.

I think the main reason I got out of the military was the rank thing. You go out in the field and come back a couple months later and some suckass admin. guy would have rank over you. He would try to tell me my job or pull rank and I would usually ask 'have you ever done what I do or ever been in rhe field?' They would get pissed and I would be standing in front of the OIC/1st sarg. I actually lost rank once over that shit. Some captain in street clothes got in my face at a bar. Long story short, I broke his nose and took some teeth before some guys pulled me back. The only thing that helped me was I had just gotten back from the field and did not know who he was.

Lawful orders are pretty clear. They're for lack of a better word black & white. Ethics are different, they vary form person to person. So what grounds woudl you have or what would you say if its unethical?
@DrLumpyDMus4 жыл бұрын
Actually, ethics don't vary. Individuals' conscious decision to face them or not is what's "different" between people. Example - There is no place in the US where it is legal to exceed the posted speed limit. Nowhere. Applicants (who drive cars) on the "How's your ethics" game show, have you ever willfully violated a law? There's only two answers, yes or no. One is always true. The other is always false. That's ethics.
