MAMI DEL REAL -- At the beginning of World War 2, my paternal grandparents were very proud but naturally very worried when their four sons enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps (later U.S. Air Force) and U.S. Navy. The youngest son joined up at age 17 with my grandparents' written permission. Grandma especially prayed day and night for their safe return. The good Lord delivered -- after war's end, all four brothers returned home to Montana without a scratch.

A few years ago, my nephew came home for a visit shortly after being commissioned in the Navy, he was wearing his summer non dress white uniform as he had gone directly from work to the airport, on the way home he and his mother stopped at a local target store to pick up something my sister needed while there my nephew encountered two young women, who had made his grade school life miserable, bullying him, as he was the shortest boy of his age in the school, these two took one look at him in those whites, and lost it! They nearly knocked each other over, trying to give him their numbers! ( they didn't know that he was already engaged) When my sister ( who also didn't know about the engagement) asked if he was going to contact either of them, he just said those two? No way! My fiance wouldn't like it! That let that cat out of the bag!

I love the way the American people support and care for their service people, here in Britain our soldiers are treated appallingly by government and communities

Maybe you need to change that.

They will have to jump through hoops to get anything from the VA. I've been out for 9 years now and I'm still trying to get all my benefits.

@@Ghostrider6A Keep going. A friend of mine just got everything owed to him from the VA last week. He was a helicopter pilot going into LZs under heavy attack day after day in, oh, let's see now, Viet Nam. Yup, at age 71 he finally got what has been owed to him since the age of 23. All the back pay and everything else, and Uncle Sam finally wrote him a check for $120,000. He and I both think the gubment was hoping he'd die before they had no choice but to cough it up. Pisses me off so much - they're happy to take your service but don't want to give _what was promised when you signed up_ once back home. Keep going, and know that we civilians appreciate you.
