pedantic note - ACU is the army combat uniform, refers to the cut of the uniform and is still in use. the camo pattern is called UCP, universal camouflage pattern

@@hammer8771 After watching this video, I just realized that my newly bought and thought to be a Multicam wallet is actually made in Scorpion W2 (your OCP). This pack looked strange in vertical oriented pattern but it might be good to be used interchangeable or in combo with NWU III camo.

I love the surplus stuff. I have a lot of it. A few different packs. lots of pouches, tents, apparel and other stuff. I can't do the long ultra lite backpacking treks anymore. Most of what I do now is just hick a couple miles back in to a woods and set up camp for a few nights. Seems how I do this year around, the military stuff just works out a little better for me.

This is the one we used! I remember it being a happy, well, MEDIUM alternative to the assault and big pack. We put the butt pack on the bottom straps and it worked very nicely. It did actually fit the plate carrier pretty well. When I was in I was too dumb to pay attention to these details but now I can see how cool it was to have a pack that fit your carrier.

I pieced mine together from stuff I got here and there but I have to say that I’m very happy overall as far as a well thought out ruck is concerned. I have the back breaker 5000 too but for probably most things a guy would need a ruck for this one does it for me. I have a ranger roll under and my other jacket goes over the top, outstanding piece of gear all round. Thanks for a good video 👍

I always enjoy these videos. One day you should give us a tour of your gear room / basement where all this military surplus is stored. Might help those of us with more modest collections to deflect criticism from our wives that say we have too much stuff: )

+John O'Neill Hahahahahaha, it's funny because it's true. I have too many guns ( actually, there is no such thing as too many guns ), too many extra mags, too many cases of ammo, too many chest rigs and tac vests, too many rucks and MOLLE pouches, and on and on

It's much more comfortable than a medium Alice with frame if you're a taller guy. My only complaint is there's no bladder hanger. I cut out the radio straps and sewed in a piece of one wrap to support a source bladder.

that is a nice pack. i think the military is trying to get away from the large framed backpack. not sure why. this may be their answer. i am dubious about that frame.
@cthulhu66973 жыл бұрын
+Renaissance MarineTV It seems I remember hearing they replaced the original frames on the medium ruck just like they did on the original large rucks and for the same reason, they were flimsy and would break often. I have the improved MOLLE 2 large ruck with the improved frame and they are way better, very sturdy, thick, heavy frames that are some of the most durable polymer frames I've seen. I often lash things to the frame of my MOLLE 2 large ruck when I run that ruck when training ( something I'm not able to do with the frame on the ILBE, which I still prefer to the MOLLE 2 ), including a crowbar on 1 side, and sometimes additional guns on the other ( including a .12 gauge pump action tactical shotgun : a Mossberg 500 Persuader that comes with the pistol grips, no stock on them when you buy them, the 18" barrel, and I've put the "assault package" on one of my Persuaders [top-fold stock, 6 round side saddle shell holder, flip up ghost ring sights, flip up forehand grip on the pump], as well as a 12 round tactical sling. I sometimes put an additional rifle, something high powered and long range like a scoped 300 Win Mag ). I put the shotgun/rifle, when I bring that, in a tube-shaped, zippered, nylon bag that came with a folding camp chair and is a perfect fit. The bag with the shotgun/rifle is easily lashed on the frame using paracord, small bungee cords, gear cobra ( heavy duty, rubber coated steel wire that has tons of uses ), stuff like that. Oh, BTW, your channel is great as well. I haven't seen a new gear-oriented video from your channel for a while. Are you still making those? Edit : I believe the military is still using large framed rucks with no plans of discontinuing them. The Army is making the MOLLE 4000 large ruck ( I'm not sure if they are being issued yet, but I've seen videos on them and they are at least as big as the MOLLE 2 large ruck, and I've seen pictures of them with a bunch of large pouches that I didn't recognize seeing before, and I'm a big fan of MOLLE pouches ), and the Marine Corps is, of course, using the FILBE, which is relatively new when it comes to how long a military main ruck is being issued and in use ( look at how long the ALICE was still being used, even when they had developed the much better CFP 90 ). Personally, I don't see how they wouldn't use large rucks, especially on long range ops where you need a lot of stuff
@DJ-fd4qk Жыл бұрын
It sucks for rucking. Like one of the worst bags to rug with. When stuffed full it sits too far from the wearer's back and is very annoying to get high on your back. I would never put more than 35lbs in this pack, I've already rucked this with 50lbs and it's awful. Great assault pack, shit ruck

Appreciate you covering the features of this pack. Do have a question; are the backpacks of the two different camouflage patterns interchangeable? If I take the straps frame etc. from the army combat uniform camouflage Version then switch out just the backpack portion for the OCP will it fit?

The backpacks are the same dimensions. The only thing that changes is the color of the camo.

So OCP is not another name for Multicam. They are different patterns. Very similar, but not the same. Multicam was developed by Caleb Crye and is owned by Crye Precision. ACU is a uniform, not a camo pattern. UCP is the camo pattern.
@bigredwolf62 жыл бұрын
The only thing we hate more than the pattern itself, is the name. While UCP is the correct term, everyone knows it as ACU. It just sounds better.
@jeffpeters44972 жыл бұрын
Isn't OCP another name for scorpion? It seems like I read somewhere that when the Army changed from the UCP to OCP that they did not go with multi cam because Crye wanted more money and someone else made a pattern called Scorpion which is almost the same but the multi cam is horizontal and the Scorpion is vertical, most things in nature is vertical, but I can't find any reference to this anymore.
@freddyt862 жыл бұрын
@@jeffpeters4497 yes. Caleb Crye developed Scorpion with the Army then later created multicam. He wanted more money than the DOD would give him for the rights to the pattern. Multicam has vertical elements to it where OCP does not. OCP is actually horizontal.
