When we started this video I expected by the end i would have a glowing opinion of the Sig P365 with the exception of one issue I was going to keep an eye on. My Sig P365 is a "second generation" gun as the initial guns had several problems that Sig quickly addressed after the P365's release. I thought I had a winner on my hands and I was carrying the gun for the last two weeks... then came time to shoot a video with the Sig P365. You'll want to watch the whole video.

Mine had the same failure after 165 rounds. The Sig customer service rep said when I send it in it'll get new sear/trigger springs, a new striker, and possibly a new slide.
@Militaryarmschannel
@Militaryarmschannel 6 жыл бұрын
Well that's not very reassuring. If they're having to replace slides that means there's potentially a lot of defective pistols out there and we may have been through another generational change that Sig hasn't mentioned publicly.

I think he was referring to the "1st gen" issues they were having in regards to the slide. Mine is a 2nd gen so hopefully it won't be necessary. Either way, it's on its way back to Sig now and I'll give an update when I get it back.

Ian Alpert can you see the issue with commenting on this and trying to “soften the blow” when you yourself have a Sig P365 “on it’s way back to sig”...they beta test on police, our military and now civilians and have no qualms about it, even lying about it flat out. The design is great but the execution is worse then subpar. Embarrassing.

I wouldn't say I'm trying to soften the blow, but I'm also not about a grab a torch and pitchfork due to my first bad experience with a Sig product. Obviously I'm unhappy with a broken gun which is why I sent it back and am holding them accountable.

Well, just think about it. What generation is it on now? The 3rd generation? And it's half a year old? That's not good. Sig Sauer has quickly become Sig Sewer over the years. Their QC needs major improvement.

You noticed a problem, investigated further to confirm the problem and posted it. Not catering to sig's salespeople. There is a problem...make it known and let the manufacturer respond how they will. Yeah I feel badly for Sig because this appears to be a really cool design, but they know that we've entered a new era in terms of product testing and feedback via KZbin and gun forums. If their product isn't able to meet the hype, they should be shamed accordingly for bringing a new gun to market without doing due diligence. In any case, I assume they will get the issues cleared up, and either way, the impetus to other manufacturers to innovate in this segment is right here, and we as consumers all benefit. Innovation requires mistakes.

+Puredrive888 I've heard the G43 was much smoother on release than the 42. People should remember that other brands have had hangups on new models, but the P365 seem to have had several. Still, this may be the most closely scrutinized new gun ever, given YT engagement.

Back to back disasters. Sig first lies about their P320 being drop safe, they lied straight up to a police department. They only issued a "voluntary" upgrade because of video proof of the pistol failing over and over in drop tests. Then this POS pistol comes out next, where you're playing Russian Roulette with the striker and trigger. Will it break today, maybe not. But it will, and likely under a thousand rounds.

After all the problems, I am glad that I stuck with my gut to give this gun a year before buying it. Sig needs to be real careful now after this and the 320 debacle. I know not everyone thinks like me, but I still won't but a polymer S&W pistol after the worthless .380 Bodyguard (I had one that would only go bang 50% of the time). This makes me seriously question all Sig poly guns.

So many new model guns come out with problems these days, it's amazing that are still people who don't think like you. The P10C, 320, 365, 19X, 380 EZ, and probably more all have pretty consistent reports of QC errors that shouldn't exist. Though I will say you should probably consider looking into the standard M&P. It's been around for 13 years and S&W has made a great gun out it. Don't let your experience with the body guard ruin an entire line up for you.

I purchased one today. It was born on Feb 2019. BOY WAS I WRONG. Today it has the following issues within 200 rounds of Winchester white box 115 grain round nose ammo. 1) NO strike and not light strike. This happened within the first 100 rounds. Heard and felt striker but the casing did not have a scratch on the primer. Reloaded it and it fired the second time 2) All casings showed extreme striker drag to the edge of the primer 3) Worst of all the barrel showed pinging damage to the point that you can cut your finger on it. It is a new style barrel that has the relief cut on it. I called Sig and it is on its way back! WHAT A PIECE OF JUNK. The capacity is there, the ergonomics are good, the accuracy is exceptional and the sights are great BUT if it goes click instead of bang it is not fit for EDC.

I bought a P365 (second gen) and so far it's been great. I was almost prepared to defend it as I have to my friends and anyone else I've talked to. At first, I said "the failure to return to battery is because people are riding the slide with their thumbs". Then I was thinking "the firing pins may have had a small bad batch". Seeing it digging into the primer sideways as it ejects and then the trigger breakage is going to force me to return this to the safe as a decoration. I'll take it out to the range and beat the holy hell out of it, paying close attention to spent casings. If it's doing that on my next range trip, then I'll wait for SIG to issue a recall. The trigger issue will be one to watch for if a single other person reports it. For now, I'll go back to my Ruger LCP II. I was really hopeful the SIG could go with me pretty often to cover the role of the Ruger. Who wouldn't want more capacity and 9mm over a 6+1 380? They've made huge improvements in the LCP over my original LCP Custom and I can shoot it just as well as the P365. Sig, fix this. I ordered, got on a list, and waited almost two months for nothing.

I firmly believe the gun needs serious revamping. It my opinion that it's not a matter of "if" your P365 will fail, it's only a matter of "when". I've gotten messages from people who had their break on the first magazine and people who had 500 some rounds through theirs before it failed. This gun is not to be trusted with self defense duty in my honest opinion.

They fixed the peening on the barrel, increased the spring weight for people that put too much hand-meat on the slide, and it looks like they even rounded off some corners around the mags. Oh, and the xray 3 night sights. So if you see one without night sights, that's a gen 1.

Great Honest Review! This gun has so much to offer if Sig can get QC under control. I will say my gun never had any striker drag before the striker broke after 1000 rounds. That scares me more than anything because there seems to be no consistent precursors for when a gun will go down.
@jont3227
@jont3227 6 жыл бұрын
Harry's Holsters The failures seem more related to poor design than QC, since as far as I know all P365s have the same striker drag problems, just not all of them are breaking from it. They need to need go back to the drawing board and fix their trigger mechanism and striker designs.

@MatteoSixSeventyFour
@MatteoSixSeventyFour 6 жыл бұрын
Harry's Holsters & Jon T The whole primer smear, striker drag is an issue 98% of 40 S&W guns have been dealing with since the 90's. And still, continue to deal with! Its a result of the recoil spring is too weak to keep the case and slide in battery long enough for the pressures to drop and the primer to stop flowing before the extraction and ejection phase begins. And it is happening before the firing pin can retract. Most of my 40's be it hammer-fired or striker-fired as I buy them new do this exact same thing. And in every instance, the solution is to bump up into a heavier recoil spring if one is available. I think the problem here is the barrel and slide are so short that at the length of travel the spring is not sufficiently strong enough to do its job in the distance it has. The basic rule of thumb is compact always have heavier, strong springs than their FS counter-parts. And sub-compact more than the compacts. I think that combined with piss poor heat treatments or shoddy choice in material on the striker is the root cause of those two issues.

As consumers we need to stick together and keep the information coming. With all the attention the P365 is getting I think it'd be in Sig's best interest to own up to an obvious issue and fix it. I for one would appreciate an honest/ forthcoming approach and give them the benefit of the doubt as one thing is absolutely certain. Sig Sauer has innovated something truly special and I applaud them for it. Yes, there is a KelTec that's the same size and capacity but comparatively speaking the P365's trigger and accuracy is unmatched. Everything has growing pains, the P320 did, I own a P320 X-Carry (post voluntary upgrade) and all I can say is it's phenomenal. I think this is such a hot topic because there are so many who want it to be a success that when it becomes "flawless" (if there is such a thing) everyone will be toting one unless another manufacturer does it without flaws or growing pains which is unlikely as new offerings rarely come out of the gate like that but it's possible. Acknowledging and fixing would certainly show consumers that Sig cares about their customers in more ways than one as many are EDC'ing the P365 which may have a catastrophic failure at an unfortunate moment. One has to wonder how much it would cost Sig Sauer should this scenario happen and they be held liable for it. Look at the automaker's. Sig responding to proven issues would be an unusual, yet wise move to gain trust by saying we're listening. I remember Remington denying an issue with their 700 BDL firing when simply disengaging the safety. One of their own engineers actually tried to call attention to the issue and at the time he did the modification would've been a few bucks. There's certainly more to Remington's woes than just what I mentioned but it didn't help matters. Take a lesson Sig. Our family owns 4/P365's, 3 have close to 1000rds., 1 has ~700rds. All have been flawless but all are no longer being EDC'd until issues are owned/addressed properly. We will continue to shoot at the range but not trust our lives or our families with what if's. Be safe and aware.

I’m glad I saw your vid!! The Sig 365 I purchased last week had a trigger failure. The trigger spring came loose in the the trigger assembly. It looks like a clothes pin spring. One end seats in a slot on the trigger housing frame and the other end inserts in a ear tab on the trigger bar. The Sig company said “Huh...I haven’t herd of that” “ If it happens again call us” I used some lock tight. Lol I’ll see what happens. It’s firing ok now. ...As far as the firing pin drag....I haven’t seen that but...the firing pin tip is angled. I’ll look with a magnifying glass to see if it’s broken or made that way. If it’s made that way at a angle then when the pin strikes the indentation would appear as a drag mark since the indentation is at a angle also. Just an assumption. Sig, can I trust my life with you? Sig is to firearms manufacturers what these new game developers are to gaming. They release an unfinished product and expect the end user to figure out the problems so the company can patch it instead of going through further development to work out the kinks. It's a dangerous game that Sig is playing with people's lives. It's sad because I absolutely love their guns, my current go to rifle is my MCX and it's been super reliable for 3000 rounds now at the least. I love every handgun of theirs that I pick up. But they have to stop the nonsense with QC and testing.

Yeah and people are too damn impatient. You don't need to design a new model every year. Guns now 40+years old are still on par with the stuff being released now. Glocks gen 5? Gimme a break! The 320? bleh. They really don't bring anything to the table that would make it any more effective than an old 226 or g17.

I was waiting for you to comment on the striker drag. It’s 2023 and I have been carrying the 365 since it was released 4 years ago. Yes I swapped out to steel striker and no the original one didn’t break. I’ve had no issues. I recently got a Glock 43x. The empty casings show a very slight drag on the primers. Unlike the older Glocks this one has a round striker. IT ALSO HAS THE BOTTOM RELIEVED AT ABOUT a 25 or 30 degree angle. That relief apparently keeps it from dragging.

Both have been completely reliable and so easy to conceal. I have to say out of all the pocket pistols I have these two are my go to’s first.

@obergruppenfuhrerjohnsmith5981 6 жыл бұрын
Rebellion1776 this isn't necessarily true. Sig Sauer and Sig USA or actually two completely separate commercial entities. German Sig retains rights over intellectual property and designs of cig USA, But there two distinct companies with separate research and development teams, manufacturing, quality control processes, and corporate culture. The truth is that Sig USA simply does not maintain the same level of quality and attention to detail that there are German and West German predecessors did. It's kind of a shame, because even there dependable legacy designs like the P226 and P229 have shown problems coming out of their New Hampshire plant. Hell, even the legions occasionally have unacceptable flaws. It's really too bad, because a little over a decade ago a metal frame Sig was one of the best guns money could buy. Now the price has stayed up where it's always been, but the quality no longer matches.
@Rebellion1776
@Rebellion1776 6 жыл бұрын
Like I said, same company two different Divisions. When SIG stock price gets effected it is a across the board failure for both divisions no matter if one caused it or not. Most people are not going to differentiate between the two divisions either, they will look at SiG products as lower quality no matter if they were produced in the USA or Germany. Not saying the Germán Division doesn’t produce high quality stuff, but the average Joe who buys SIG in the USA will not care, they will just start hearing SIG has quality problems and they will buy a competitor weapon instead.

@obergruppenfuhrerjohnsmith5981
@obergruppenfuhrerjohnsmith5981 6 жыл бұрын
*Jay T.* yes, there is still German made Sigs. The custom shop guns, and the competition versions (X5, X6, etc) are still made and hand fitted in Germany. In addition, Sig AG probably makes a lot of the guns for their European contracts, and does maintenance on the outstanding ones (of which they have quite a few). That said, I'm pretty sure that at this point Sig USA is a larger company by revenue, and certainly will be after the MH 17 / 18 acquisition program gets into full swing. Unfortunately, unless you're willing to pay a few thousand dollars for an X Series, it's near impossible to find a new production German made Sig in the US

I was a die hard fan of Sig in the 90's. Back in the early days of the internet we had things called BBS's. My moniker on our local BBS's was "Sig". However, if a tool fails me I don't ignore it because I'm a mindless fanboy, I move on. It really sucks the P365 is a ticking time bomb for its owners. I honestly believe at this point its not a matter of "if" your P365 will fail, it's only a matter of "when" it will fail. I damn near carried this gun home with me and it could have failed me in a fight for my life. I will never trust this gun again and my disgust of Sig's QC only worsens. I don't know why I keep giving them chances.

Mac, thanks for the vid! So disappointing!! 👎🏼 One of the most unsettling things to me about this situation is the fact that Sig Sauer doesn’t come out and release a statement saying that they are concerned about the multiple failures the firearm has been having by consumers and to express that we are important enough to them that they are seriously looking into the issues the firearm is having, are committed to fixing them, and then either doing a recall or sending out parts etc! When the P320 started having its troubles and we the consumer brought it to their attention, their attitude seemed negative and quite insensitive. Their “voluntary upgrade” was and is a complete insult to our intelligence. It is obvious they said it that way for multiple legal reasons etc. Doesn’t matter! They showed us that they did not care about the consumer as much as they did about their own bottom lines. Of course this is not a first. Companies have acted and responded this way for a long while now. I just never would have expected it to happen from Sig Sauer! I would really like to know your thoughts regarding this? Thx and great job as always! Myles-

The primer drag on the fired case indicates it is caused by the barrel tilting/unlocking, not the extractor. The primer drag points right at the "9".

SIG, as evidenced by their recent quality failures, is paving the way for a new market: disposable firearms. From their current actions it is simple to deduce that they aim to be the Dixie Cups of the disposable firearms market. Insert your $$ into the vending machine, out comes the P320 or P365 that you selected.. On the top of the slide is a reverse counter that counts down telling you approximately how many more rounds many more rounds you can shoot. Then when your SIG determines that it is no longer safe to shoot, it will automagically self-destruct to keep you safe.

Tactickle Shtooper What’s really sad about what you stated is that you may be right. SIG won a military contract and now is to good for its average customers. It amazes me time and time again that you see this with firearm manufacturers that once they become a name brand for the military, they think that they’re to good for quality control. I’m not surprised and what do you expect from a company that charges outrageous prices for magazines.

Yeah, primer smear is typically a sign of a weak or insufficient recoil spring. And this whole trend of running weaker springs or putting lightening cuts all over the slide to get faster cycling either creates the issue or exacerbates it. If the primer is coming out smeared the slide and case are not staying in battery long enough for the primer to stop flowing and the firing pin to retract before the extraction and ejection phase are underway. In the case of the P365 I'm seeing signs that the spring isn't strong enough for the oh so short length of travel is has to work in. The fact that the +P ammo showed a more pronounced smear than the standard pressure 9mm all but confirms it for me. Mix that with crappy heat treatments or just outright poor firing pin material. And the issues you guys are seeing doesn't surprise me in the least!

Does that mean someone could possibly fix this aftermarket with a stouter spring and upgraded striker/firing pin assembly, especially if you were sticking to specific ammo?
@MatteoSixSeventyFour
@MatteoSixSeventyFour 6 жыл бұрын
Ryan Lackey Funny you say that. Galloway Precision just announced a few days ago they will be offering a number of upgrade parts for the P365. And if I'm not mistaken a stainless guide rod assembly was one of them. So you may want to check in with them. As for the ammo? I'm never a fan of any gun that is ammo picky. Guns like that I just say F it and unload them. But that's just me. Hope the Galloway info helps brother.
@MatteoSixSeventyFour
@MatteoSixSeventyFour 6 жыл бұрын
mcclanehallenbeck Some of it is. Give it an aesthetically pleasing look. But the purpose of the cuts was to lighten the slide to help reduce some of the recoil and increase the cycling speed. I've never been a fan of that BS. Faster slide cycling also means increased wear. And a lighter slide without a stronger spring also means you get primer smear. Many or most 40's deal with that same issue because a vast majority of the time manufacturers put the same spring in they do for their 9mm counterpart.
@MatteoSixSeventyFour
@MatteoSixSeventyFour 6 жыл бұрын
mcclanehallenbeck The whole lightening cuts thing came from the competition circuits. Guys wanting a faster cycling gun with a reduced weight slide to mitigate that reciprocating mass. As for what companies made a name for themselves as the trend caught on. I'm not sure. As I said I was never a fan. Competition guns also break faster and need more repairs/up keep. Not a quality I want in a self defense carry gun.

I'm a master gunsmith/armorer, so I already knew the answer to this question, but just to be certain... I keep one spent brass from the last magazine fired from each of my pistols. It goes in a small ziplock bag and is hung behind each gun in it's spot in my gun room. I've been a gunsmith and a collector for over 40 years- I own several hundred pistols, speaking of semi auto carry weapons alone. I went through all of the saved brass from each of my roughly 300 semi auto carry guns. I could not find even one visible example of firing pin dragging on any of them. To be honest, I would notice this as I put the gun away and it would be scheduled for repair. Pin dragging can be caused by ammo- soft primers can cause the firing pin to hang up. But I only shoot my own reloads or known, quality shelf ammo. More typically, pin dragging is caused by excessive gunk in the striker channel, a weak recoil spring, or a rough firing pin, that hangs up as it passes through the hole in the slide that the firing pin passes through to reach the primer. Fixes are, use harder primers, clean the gun more thoroughly, replace the recoil spring, and debur the firing pin hole and/or polish the length of the firing pin. For a gun of Sig's supposed quality to leave the factory with this problem is difficult to excuse. It seems that no matter what, when it comes to compact EDC guns, my top 3 remain my top 3. My G27 that was my backup in SWAT. I have thousands of training hours invested in it. We used the MP-5 in .40, the G23C as primary sidearm, and the G27 as backup. My G43 that is my minimalist edc, great for belly band or SOB holster, etc My CZ Rami for when I must carry concealed but I feel the threat level is high. Few guns will pull me away from Glock reliability, but the Rami is one. I buy the .40 Rami but swap out the barrel for the very thick walled 9mm aftermarket barrel. I have 4 of these and have put them through hell, and have never had a single feed or fire issue. I own a lot of high end guns, but surprisingly, my SHTF collection is mostly Glock, CZ, FN, AR15, MBS995, and RUGER, My overwatch choices are more mainstream.. My Barrett .50 for asset denial and my .338 lapua mag on a 700 chassis for soft targets. We'd better all begin preparing. Things are going south quickly.

Sig USA just isn't up to snuff yet. This really is sad. One of the highest quality and highest praised brands for many many years. So many years of top notch innovation and history in the Swiss military. It's all being tarnished with seemingly substandard factory testing and or materials "chinsing." I was hoping heavily that the internet bad talk on the 365 would be the typical nonsense regurgitated from biased people with zero real experience that we all see on the net, but alas it's true this time. Thanks for keeping things honest MAC.

To be fair to Sig, there is a certain percentage of problems with a new product that won’t be found until the product is on the market, and there are a number of reasons for this. First is the transition from prototype to production, the team that develops a functioning hand fitted prototype isn’t necessarily the same team that does the redesign work for mass production. There is also the expense of destructive testing, if Sig wanted to test the service life of 20 pistols to the tune of 30,000 rounds each (assuming that each firearm is $500 and 100 rounds of ammo is $20 for mathematical simplicity) would cost upwards of $130,000 alone, on top of paying for the engineering consulting and statistical analysis. On top of this the sample size is small enough that you might not find the failure. Also there is also the proportion of failures you see versus the proportion of success you see. Think about it in terms of air-travel, the only time airlines are in the news is when there is a problem or crash, but you never see the tens of thousands of flights a year that go off without a hitch. I’m not saying there aren’t problems with the P365, there obviously are, but I’m not so quick to jump on the bandwagon that Sig had malicious intent.
