As to strategic goals, I think the Russians want Novohrodivka and a buffer to the flanks around the rail line. Then they can use the rail lines for supplies. Question where they will move them. They will hunt subsonic cruise missiles and mainly drones. They can't shoot all drones down, and Ukranian pilots stated their old soviet jets aren't precise enough to target smaller drones despite they fly straight. They will avoid the Russians at all cost, won't go even within 50-100km of them. They can also use the Briitsh and French cruise missiles, fire them from again 50-100km from the combat lines toward the enemy. They will have a patriot air defense system protecting them, and possibly even Romanian air defense. But against hypersonic missile it doesn't matter.....

F16s are a 70s aircraft. They were functionally obsolete after the 80s. Zero stealth capability. They will look good flying over cities but don't try to actually use them.

A F-16 isn't far better than a Su-24 individually! What makes F-16 a better aircraft that they can carry all kind of pods, surveillance, ground radar, laser targeting, electronic warfare pods. If you have a formation of 24 F-16s, some with those pods while others with missiles and bombs payload that force is significantly stronger than 24 Su-24 ever can be. But only 10 F-16 is not enough for such a formation and we don't even know which pods were given to Ukraine. It is just another 'western wonder weapons' stupidity, with current numbers F-16s won't achieve anything better than Su-24s at all..

You are correct, but there is one important point: U. is running out of SU-24. R. has made it a priority to hunt them since the start of the war. Because the SU-24 can fire ALCMs. And Russia was quite successfull, U. fleet of SU-24 is severly reduced. And by receiving F-16, all the results that R. achieved by grinding down the SU-24 has been nullified. Will F-16 change anything? no. But WITHOUT the F-16 U.would lose the capability to use ALCMs. That's why the delievery of F-16 is extremly important for U. - because without them, they would lose this ability. Now they still have it. Had to write U. and R. because otherwise my postings get auto-del.

F-16 should be compared with MiG-29, by combat role it is closer to F-16. And I think Ukraine will definitely be given no more than 20 of them, and most likely no more than 10. This is absolutely insignificant and will not change anything. Before the start of the SMO, the Ukrainian Air Forces had about 300 aircraft and helicopters, at least half of which were various aircraft such as Su-24, Su-25, Su-27, MiG-29, plus at least several dozen, and maybe even hundreds of such aircraft were delivered later. That is, Ukraine had ten times more aircraft, and this did not help it, Russia destroyed almost all of them.
