It's not that they're hated, really. Or at least, not unique in being hated. You'll find criticisms of every original Space Marine Legion, for a number of different reasons. Honestly the Space Wolves and their flaws are overlooked when the Smurfs stand as the eternally obnoxious bright and shiny effigy of criticism among the loyalist legions/chapters. If it was unclear from the video, which touches on it a bit(maybe the mockery of the Wolves covers up the actual facts if you're unfamiliar with them): Their relationship with the Thousand Sons was hugely hypocritical, condemning other psykers while either believing themselves to be exempt from that judgement or being too stupid to realize they were just as "guilty" if not more so than the Thousand Sons. They're also a relatively brutish legion, calling them loyalist World Eaters isn't too far from the truth a lot of the time. tl;dr every legion deserves contempt and criticism for different reasons, but you can't highlight the story of the Thousand Sons without remarking on the flaws of the Space Wolves in particular. Also some people are sick of vikings and don't like furries, if you want to get into the more petty opinions.

I’d say for Ahrimans faction trait, instead of recruitment cost reduction for rubric, he’d get a research bonus since he’s constantly looking for clues on the black library, kinda mirroring Manfred and Ghorst. I think the biggest challenge for this series isn’t the units or mechanics (battle or otherwise), but the scale. Literally a battle like the siege of altdorf during the end times would be little more than a small skirmish, considering a lot of hive cities span entire continents, heck some smaller planets have literal no natural surface left, as a handful of cities (sometimes even just one) have expanded all over the surface. CA may either decide to keep the scale manageable as one of the “sacrifices” to make it a video game, or go down the route of before the battle starts, pick units from your army to attack in the battle. Either way, whatever they do, they would HAVE to whittle down load times even more, cause even though I’m not too bothered by them, a whoooole lotta people hate them. Hope they do the series, but even toned down they gotta do the scale justice, on the campaign map and in battle

As far as chaos goes, in fantasy I very much have a taste for the Korne flakes, but in 40k Thousand sons are my favorite. I think maybe the idea of a chaos sorcerer in 40k being psychic and having unnatural powers of the warp and being a huge power armor dude with a gun draws me a lot more than a fantasy mage with armor.

Captain Amon of the Brotherhood of Dust is really the only other notable thousand sons characters. Most of them were killed during the Sack Of Prospero and the Siege Of Terra. The universe has been very clear in its hatred of the Sons Of Magnus.

@@milkandcookiesTW I would have liked the lore to be covered in more of an understanding and forgiving way towards the characters of the setting. Instead of oversimplifying it by calling the primarchs children and everyone a massive idiot for making decisions that logically made sense due to the extremely differing surroundings that each of the characters had.

A lot of it isnt forgivable or particularly logical though, even in the context of the setting. Magnus sulking in his tower while Prospero is burned to ash and his legion slaughtered, and the killing of his son, was NOT logical, and I dont really see how it can be looked upon with empathy. He literally killed his own legionnaire so that the rest of his legionnaires would also die, so that he couldnt tell his brothers an invasion was coming. Being distraught and upset about what happened on Terra doesnt in any way excuse that. It was childlike, unbelievably immature, and murderous. Leman Russ was, without question, a massive hypocrite when it came to the use of Psykers. I dont think its an oversimplification to say that both Primarchs behaved incredibly poorly and could have easily avoided full scale war. But their arrogance, stubbornness, and refusal to use their words led to millions more deaths

@@milkandcookiesTW Why would they have easily been able to escape a full scale war? You said it yourself, Horus was incredibly tactful in manipulating others in order to achieve his goals. He, acting as Warmaster, hadn't displayed any signs of Chaotic taint to Leman Russ, so he trusted not only his brother primarch, but also his father by choosing to obey the orders that the Emperor-appointed Warmaster gave to him. He saw it as his father's will and direct order, so he followed it, even after he had made multiple attempts at "somewhat of a peaceful transaction" that Magnus had purposefully ignored.

You are correct in that the Space Wolves were "just following orders", but thats part of the problem. They didn't think for themselves, of the possible ramifications for destroying an entire legion based on a mistake, or of the horrors of war unleashed on a planet full of innocent people, because they're so easily manipulated and goaded into anger and vengeance. But that doesnt mean avoiding war wouldn't have been possible or easy (whether EASY is the right word or not isn't really my point. The conversation itself would probably NOT be an easy one, but only because both Primarchs are arrogant and lack empathy and already disliked each other. But discussion is always easier than full scale war, and is certainly a preferable alternative to genocide, except in 40k with characters who genocide people for breakfast lunch and dinner). If Magnus doesnt block all communications to Prospero, and if Leman Russ does more than just say "oh well, they havent answered for an hour, better just genocide the planet then", we might have had a different outcome. Like sending diplomats to the surface world. Blockading the planet but not attacking, searching for other ways to communicate with the Thousand Sons. Avoiding war could have literally been as simple as both Primarchs putting aside their grief and massive egos, sitting down, and having a conversation. "Hey, here's why I psychically entered Terra, there's a Civil War coming, I'll join you in custody until you have the proof you need that Horus has turned Traitor. Lets work together to avoid catastrophe". I perfectly understand why that doesnt happen, but that does not excuse their actions, nor mean people should be "understanding and forgiving" of the fact that they are so willing to kill millions of innocents. I'm really not sure how anyone can defend the actions of either Primarch here. "I was ordered to do it" is not a good justification for slaughtering your own people, neither is being sad

I think basing it off of 7th edition rather than 8th/9th would be better. I imagine translating abilities would be easier and the addition of the generic psychic disciplines such as telekenesis and telepathy would be pretty cool and could also be used across factions.

I will very likely do more in this style, but maybe not for awhile. This one didn't end up doing very well unfortunately, kinda disappointed about it. But moving forward, I think the best way to do it is to focus on variety. In an order like maybe Necrons, SM Chapter, Imperial Guard, Word Bearers, Tau, another SM chapter, and so on. Rather than just doing a bunch of SM and CSM factions in a row

Tzeentch will always be my favourite Chaos God. I’m a xenophile Communist Blue Berry heretic to the bone but god if I had to follow one ruinous power it would be the Lord of Change. His explicit rival is Nurgle, but if any Chaos God posed as much a threat to the rest it is undoubtedly Tzeench. Who’s to say he wouldn’t manipulate an end-times scenario to fuck up for Chaos for shits and giggles? His power comes from the hopes and dreams of all mortal beings, and if I was a mortal, the defeat of Chaos would be my prime hope and dream. Obviously it wouldn’t be as cut and dry as a win for the imperium, I could see him accidentally transporting a few hive fleets through the warp in just the “wrong” place and at the “wrong” time.

I think it will be a long long time before we get total war 40k. You could put 2 dozen 3090ti's and it still couldn't handle all the explosions from a large squad of marines with bolters. Don't get me wrong, I would really really love to play that game, but I think we'll be playing ultimate apocalypse for a fair while longer

Hey would they be able to recruit unaligned Chaos Space Marines? I've always been confused on how the Thousand Sons grew their numbers and I got the impression they could just use the large number of Renegade and Mercenary Marines

yeah they use mercenaries, repair destroyed Rubric marines through sorcery, and cast "mini rubrics" on a much smaller scale to force others into servitude

U r wrong, that wasnt magnus who teleported himself and part of his legion to new planet, it was actualy tzeench who saved magnus, shattering his soul in that process on 20 shards ( the aspects of his soul)
