@@painlord2k Russ HAS to be the last one to return. There is a whole prophecy there and other primarchs that got so little time that should come back first Corvax and Khan come to mind. Vulcan returning and the writers NOT killing him off just to show he is a perpetual would be nice as well. Vulcan is supposed to be the most physically strong and tough of them all. What would kill any other patriarch, Vulcan should be able to stand right back up and laugh. To kill Vulcan and put him back on respawn should be twice what it would take to kill any other primarch. I despised how often they killed him just to highlight that he is a perpetual, was horrible writing. The reason Russ has to be the last is due to the prophecy that when he returns the start of 'The Wolftime' will have come. Which is Ragnarok.

That coupled with him hiding the Wulfen while condeming Thousand Sons for the flesh change proves how much of a PoS Russ was.

@@CannibalShinobi Meh. He was written VERY inconsistently in the Heresy books. This is the biggest problem I have when people rag on Russ. They point to the times he had crap writers, love to ignore the times he had more consistent writing. He is not the only Primarch that suffers from this. Perturabo does as well, as he flip flops from petulant man child incapable of thinking beyond "I wanna!" to a rational thinker capable of coming up with a cunning plan so often you will get whiplash. This is made even more pointed by the fact the writers for the modern setting have continued this idiocy by having him become a daemon primarch (going by released artwork) when the lore states he HATES Chaos, hates the chaos gods, and would never accept becoming one of their pawns. It is the whole reason his own men cut off their body parts if they start to change...and also why they capture demons and use them as fuel for their weapons! Basically every Primarch has some really crap writing minus a far few as GW basically warned them about things...Which is why Sanguinious is depicteds so consistently through all the Heresy books compared to Russ, Perterabo, Vulcan (yeah he has some uncharacteristic moments too), Lion'el, Dorn to name a few of those with such inconsistent writing that it often feels like you are reading about someone totally different with the same name. It happened less with Vulcan and Dorn on that list, yet STILL HAPPENED...and more than once. Russ and Perterabo are the two that stand out as being exceptionally inconsistently written.

Quick thing for The Brick when you do an Ahriman episode: Ahriman performed the Rubric twice! The first time he did it, it turned every non-psyker Thousand Son to dust and powered up all the psykers. Ahriman saw this as a success, but then got banished. For his second attempt (and after he killed Magnus’ adoptive father Amon, yoinking his fancy helmet in the process), Ahriman had the guidance of a shard of Magnus’ soul called “Magnus the Father”. That shard embodied all the fatherly love Magnus held for his legion. This second attempt was working! Every non-Tzeentchian shard of Magnus’ soul would combine back into Magnus, the flesh-change would be cured, and everyone would get their bodies back! … and then the Tzeentch-corrupted shard of Magnus called “The Crimson King” kicked down the door, absorbed most of the soul shards, and fucked up the spell. Now, not only are non-psykers turned into dust automata, but all the less powerful psykers are too! Sadly, “Magnus the father”-the kind embodiment of Magnus’ love for his children-let himself disintegrate into the warp rather than be absorbed by “The Crimson King”. From then on, the current Magnus has zero love for his legion. Most of this story is from ‘The Crimson King’ by Graham McNeill, who previously wrote for White Dwarf and for some of the 3rd edition codexes.

I'll grab you a tiny bit of bonus lore from the warp for this one: Ahriman's investment into the flesh-change cure was significantly personal for him, as while he was one of the first Thousand son recruits, so was his brother Ohrmuzd. If you're curious as to why some of you may not of heard of Ohrmuzd it's because he was a victim of said flesh change, which instilled a fear of it into ol Ahriman of the change and motivated him to find its cure also not 100% on this one- but I beleive he did ask Magnus for his help casting the rubric to make it work, but Magnus said no

It was the PERFECT set-up to have Ahriman team up with Yvraine to raid Slaanesh's palace for the last sword. Just think of it, Tzeentch would totally be down to knock Slaanesh down a peg if not outright kill it, further they could've brought Guilliman into the fray as well. A Tzeentchian Wizard, a full crew of revitalized Rubrics, an Elder contingent of death worshippers, and the Primarch of the Ultramarines storming the pleasure palace and curbing Fulgrim... It would've been glorious, easy way to kick Slaanesh and Fulgrim to the curb like what Big E did to Mortarion in the Garden.

One interesting thing about the whole "tricking other psykers into becoming helbrute batteries" thing is...if the prospective victim figures it out and manages to turn the tables on the sorcerer, they are generally accepted by the other thousand sons as one of their own. Doesn't happen often but IIRC there's at least one character in one of the novels who got into a 1ksons warband that way.

Just think of the classic case of any would-be sorcerer stuck for an eternity in a labyrinthine library searching for the one book containing the knowledge they seek, as an example of a very Tzeentch branded type of torture. The important thing to remember about the Chaos Gods is that there's actually a lot of overlap between them; just because suffering broadly is a Slaanesh thing, and to an extent a Nurgle thing, doesn't mean the others don't also indulge in inflicting unspeakable suffering upon mortals. So TL;DR: Chaos intersectionality is a thing.

Pro tip for any ksons players wanting an MVB rn: tyranid psychophages from the box sets are like $20 on ebay rn (dont ever buy the standalone kit i stg) and on the same base size, give it a bit of greenstuff elbow grease and some sort of grafted portal effect: they look perfectly fine as MVB's and it kinda works with the lore, psychophages exist to eat pyskers (the weird blue smoke that comes from them are like burned psyker energy essentially) and so its not a huge stretch to think one could be turned into a vessel for a beast of this sort I can't think of anything more Tzeentchy than taking an absolute force of nature that exists to consume biomass and mutating its own biomass against itself Won't work in official tournaments, probably, but about as good a justification for a proxy as I've ever been able to come up with

There is a Thousand Sons Dreadnought picture with the following text below it from the Forgeworld Imperial Armour 13; page 102. "Thousand Sons Ferrum Infernus Dreadnought, Khadeth the Silent, Mk IV Dreadnought Khadeth was present on the Planet of Sorcerers when the Rubric of Ahriman was enacted. iirc, the main reason for Ahriman's change of mind is due to his realization that... well, his friends, brothers even, they are... not there anymore. The soul-stuff might be sealed within, but the suffering of it, the slow errosion of the person that was.... it horrorfied him. Had it just been the sealed-within soul in the armor which was a near-immortality as could be possible, but without the will to freely think, do, experience, etc... He all but killed 95% of his fellow brothers and it was that realization and the guilt of it - especially when he has to put his will onto command some... he can feel the enmity and pain that his dusted brothers are constantly feeling (or the remnants of what they felt at the time of the rubric).

Happy that the excerpt from All Is Dust was well received. I have to give a huge recommendation to the Ahriman Omnibus. I recently finished Ahriman: Exile, and it has a lot more literary merit than the average Black Library release. The whole story has a real sense of tragedy and dark atmosphere that really make the universe seem alive, expansive, and sympathetic to the plight of the Thousand Sons.

One of the lore videos I saw said that Arihiman is one of Tzeench's favorite toys, because he embodies blind devoted Hope. It's been almost 10,000 years, but Arihman still is holding out hope to undo the Rubric and also stop the Flesh Change, and is crazy enough to do stuff like try and brute force his way into the Black Library for the Eldar's stash of knowledge to get there

I don’t think they’re sitting back on Wine Tasting Weekends, or going on Lads Holidays to Ibiza. They are War Machines. Now they are just better war machines.
