I think it'd be sick and fitting for this dlc if the reason they're giving for Gorbad being alive is that he got thrown into Khorne's realm all those years ago, and he's been krumpin there ever since. On the topic of Greenskin lifespans, there is an excerpt in the lore from a Hobgoblin mercenary describing a legendary Khan who was so powerful that he managed to die of old age in his bed without anyone daring to challange or backstab him even during his weakest moments. Also Orc Bullies, warmachine crews in the TT, are said to be old Orcs who aren't in fighting shape anymore. So I don't think fantasy Greenskins are effectively immortal, though GW might allways retcon that. Eitherway, unlike Grom I don't expect Ironclaw's campaign to be about his return - I think like Repanse he is simply going to exist out of time.
@darthplagueis133 ай бұрын
These things are very inconsistent. I mean, Grimgor and some of his Immortulz are heavily implied to be survivors of the Black Orc slave revolt that nearly destroyed the Chaos Dwarfs. That happened in -100 IC, and Grimgor lived until the End Times, which happened after 2500 IC, so Grimgor may well be over 2600 years old, a lot older than even Gorbad. It's possible that Hobgoblins simply have shorter lifespans. I wouldn't put it past the Green Godz to punish them for their betrayal during the slave revolt. It's also possible that there's a slight supernatural factor to their lifespans, i.e. that Greenskin leaders of great renown are empowered by the waaagh and are spared from things such as age, where lesser Greenskins fail in that regard. Aging certainly isn't entirely unheard of for Greenskins, with Gorfang Rotgut there was also some talk that he was getting on in his years, which lead to him breaking some doubters spines, but I imagine if you are a truly legendary Orc, one that the shamans tell stories of for eternity, you might just not have such an issue, with the combined adoration and faith from Greenskins all over the world serving to keep you young.

There is one thing I have noticed that can be used to predict which characters will be added in the future. If there is a generic lord with the characters name already in the campaign then they will not be added. (Gorfang Rotgut and Marius Leitforf being two examples of this.) though the main thing to look for is which characters don’t have generic versions. Luther Harkon was not the lord of the vampire coast faction before he was added. Same goes for Eltharion, Hellebron, Malus, Throt, Snikitch and the list goes on. In terms of predicting who will come. Look for characters who are significant for their absence. They already have an obvious faction, but the factions leader is not them. Neferata is the most obvious to me as the Lahmian sisterhood exists but some random vampire lord is the leader.

They could easily explain Gorbad Ironclaw’s inclusion in the timeline being that he got sucked into the realm of Khorne and has been fighting nonstop for centuries, only to get spat back out in the current timeline. Since time works differently in the realms of Chaos, it could have only felt like a few days/weeks/months to Gorbad rather than centuries. @cheaptastic32203 ай бұрын
On legendary mode if you’re playing with skrag, the dwarfs will almost always declare war on you regardless of what you do, even if you kill the neighboring green skins. Because you have no armor piercing that early on and the economy is so bad you’re essentially stuck at the starting position with one unmovable camp that you have to defend against all of the dwarf factions. It’s a terrible start position for skrag so it would be nice if they moved all of them closer to the mountains. Not to mention they don’t have a mechanic to go through mountains like dwarfs or skaven so it’s very tedious and not enjoyable

This DLC is a rare opportunity for CA to do the Mercenary machanic of the Ogres justice. I think acess to Maneaters should be made sooner with a tier 2 building variant Ogre Kingdoms - From Tier 2/3/4/5 Building Contract missions in the form of a battles similar maybe to the old Reinforce the Empire mechanic seige battle. Reward would be, besides gold, reputation, allegiance points, the option to add the recruit of a specific Maneater unit to a pool. This unit would be race specific depending on the faction of the completed mission. Additionally, recruitment costs and upkeep of that specific kind of unit could be reduced by 0-50%. Camps - besides ogre bulls, if allied with the Ogre faction, you would have access to the Maneaters race specific unit as a mercenary from one of their camps. Represented Races - Maneaters of the recruiting faction's race can be recruited from a camp belonging to an allied Ogre Faction. In addition, after reaching lvl 9 expirience lvl for an Ogre Bull Mercenary unit, the faction will receive a recuitable Maneater unit specific to their race in the global recruitment pool. Upon recruitment of that unit, if the Ogre Bull has not been disbanded already, this action disbands the Ogre Bull unit from the Lord's army. Maneaters would all have 16 models instead of the 24 of Bulls on ultra. I will give some ideas that coul be used for units and a description of the look: Tier from tier 2 building The Savage Bunch- Ogre Bulls 2H (Firebelly skin whitout the mask) Description: "Ogre Maneaters fighting alongside Savage Greenskins don't know if charging smeared in Warpaint and shouting "Wagh!" helps their chances of winning, but then again, it seems to work for the Orcs." Tier 2 Not AP but Frenzy , Warpaint 20% Ward save 16 models on ultra (Immunity to Badlands Attrition) Tier 3 (Butcher Model) Vampire Maneater "After being in the service of the undead, the Maneaters have found out that if they don't devour the enemy during the fight, the slain might rise up and service their employers, leaving them with no extra snacks for their unnatural hunger." Hunger (Immunity to Vampire Attrition) Kislev Maneater 3 "After countless battles alongside Kislev's armies the Maneaters have learned that the courage to stand and fight instead of running will allow one to win against overwhelming odds." By our blood Tier 4 Norscan Maneater (Hunter Model) Description: "Norscan contracts usually involve battling some sort of monster. Because of that, Maneaters have found that, besides matching the ferocity of the North men in combat, it does not hurt to have a javelin or two ready." Enrage Special Ranged Weapon (Immunity to Frozen Attrition) Tier 4 Empire Maneater (Irongut model) Description: "Since giving an ogre even the smallest amount of Sword training produces devastating results, any troops fighting alongside them will be confident in the thick of battle." 16 Models Encourage 40 Armor Tier 5 Dwarf Maneater Blasting Charge, Armored 110 Armor "There is a disagreement amongst Maneaters about what is the best part of fighting for dwarfs. Some say it is the dwarf ale, dwarf pay or dwarf equipment. Regardless all can agree that working for the dawi has multiple advantages." Just a few ideas. If not units, then at least ROR or a specific mechanic for Golg.

What I like to think is that an FLC Arbaal might bring some fraction of fleshhound buff/synergy and would pair nicely with Karanak. If they put it that way it's a small but kind gesture to combine both for free instead of putting Arbaal behind the paywall of DLC content. Quite far fetched and only important to those hesitant of buying the DLC - BUT nice none the less. Let's see if this works out at all ^^

I think the unique man eaters will either be an ROR, or they will use the unique models as the generic heroes and/or generic lords(ie. Ninja man eater as a a man eater champion and cross dress as the lord). Maybe we just get an elite group of different looking man eaters with unique attack animations in one unit, but I think that's too hard to do.

I don't see why they couldn't have changed the schedule, with the content leaked still being very much intact. If CA releases anything remotely resembling what was leaked LATER that doesn't make the leaks false. And you'd be surprised how quickly a company can pivot when they actually focus on a pivot, instead of the ignoring CA has done in the past. They laid off loads of people, but Id guess between the studios, they have more people on W3 now than they did prior to SoC.

Kinda disappointed we're not getting forest gobbos :( I hope we'll get them at some point as an FLC. I also truly believe they're gonna add the Snakemen of Khuresh at some point, Ind is probably gonna be incorporated into Cathay unfortunately, but CA set aside a HUGE portion of the IE map for Khuresh AND moved Nakai just north of it, setting up a natural Lizardmen vs. Snakemen rivalry. It also makes sense if you consider GW could make more money by adding Snakemen to Warhammer: The Old World. I very much think that's still on the table.

Skulltaker's novel added some characterization to an otherwise generic Khorne daemon. Skulltaker is very particular on who he kills, especially he has a taste for vegence on the Hung tribesmen who wronged him in life and he has a knack for appearing out of nowhere when people are not expecting him. He is much surgical in his application of violence compared to Skarbrand who just wants to kill everything in front of him.

I don't think Skullreapers or Wrathmongers will make the cut, because those were introduced in AoS I think, and from memory I think CA are resistant to the idea of putting AoS models into the lineup. Which is why I think we didn't get the Slaaneshi Infernal Enrapturess' or the Slickblade Archers for example. Khornegors almost feel like a necessity. From memory; Skulltaker could also ride a Chariot as well.

Karneth def needs a preachy fella that, rather then use foul magic which their patron infamously hates, this combat focused caster calls upon Khorne himself to manifest various daemonic interventions instead that can stir the tide into their patron's favor. Functionally being similar to dwarfen rune magic which are cooldown based but require allied units taking and dealing damage as a more khornate flavored way of gaining access to various manifestations that could heal your troops trough pure rage, raise their offensive stats further or devastate the enemy armies with powerful de-buffs and devastating interventions of Khorne's wrath. Just thinking about it makes me think of how cool it would be if a gargantuan axe suddenly manifested and struck down against the enemy, turning 80% of the units caught inside its impact into violent blood fountains. That certainly would be a sight to behold and a morale boost for Khorne's followers.

Grom is also dead in lore so what is the problem with Ironclaw?
@milkandcookiesTW3 ай бұрын
The story of Grom being fed into the furnace by Eltharion I believe is from earlier editions. The most updated 8th edition lore is "No one is sure what happened to Grom in the wake of that conflict. The Elves never caught him and some say he resides there still, high up in the magic-tainted mountains of that strange land. Others say he flew off, mounted atop his mad Shaman's Wyvern, and is still seeking a new land worthy of conquest. None know for sure, but back in the Badlands rumours persist that one day Grom's corpulent majesty will return and once more lead them to victory". Grom is also from the current timeline and has a fierce rivalry with a character who is alive and in the game. Gorbad Ironclaw lived 800 years ago

8th Edition says "rumors sweep the Badlands that his corpulent majesty has returned and is once again amassing an army to launch a new invasion...", which perfectly fits how he was added in TWW2.

When they first announced the whole mono God with two other races I, too my amazement now, assumed correctly that Khorne would be with Greenksins and Ogres. I figured it would be, after the Shadows of Change announcement, that since Tzeentch was with Kislev and Cathay (TW3 races) and Nurgle was with the Dwarfs and Empire (TW1 races) that it would go Slaanesh with Dark Elves and High Elves (TW2) and then Khorne with Greenskins and Ogres to round it out with just a bunch of violent fighty boys. It's out of order of what I predicted but now I'm wondering if I'll be right about the Slaanesh and Elves. I also figured that the 3 races would continue to be the theme and that this would lead to a DLC centered around all the Undead thus giving us Vampire Counts, Coast and the Tomb Kings then give us Nagash in that DLC.
@williampounds51913 ай бұрын

Well, Grom simply disappeared, but not that long ago. One of the writers said they had a headcanon of what Eltharion would do to Grom, but that never was in any official material, so just like Gorbad, Grom was inofficially dead. Difference it, Grom was inofficially dead for about a century, with Gorbad, it's 800-900 years.
@loowick40743 ай бұрын
@@darthplagueis13 yeah but Grimgor could also be over a 1000 years old if he was part of the original black orcs. It's vague and I don't think it causes too much issue. Funnily i thought Gorbad wouldn't make it for this reason and Gorfang would be the one chosen.

My hopes: the Ogres get the same overhaul as the Stunties (side note CA just look at the Ogrehaul for inspiration). Make the mercenary contract system worth anything. Make the hoard system something that moves. And change over the Tech tree a bit. Also maybe better Great Maw blessings. Basically finish baking the dang cake creative assembly. Title suggestion: Rivers of blood, the meatening. Let there be skulls.
@TiredEyes883 ай бұрын
I mean i wouldnt think too hard about the timelines, i really think thats far down the list of concerns for development. And frankly Gorbad just seems the best out of all the other Orc character options. Gorbad is basically some Orc Sun Tzu, a tactican but great unifier, not hating but using the other greenskin races to their utmost, seperating him from Grimgor who focused on Orcs exclusively and hated any non Orc species. The other Warbosses seem very traditional Orc focused as well.
@DokturProfesur3 ай бұрын
Gorbad is probably the last of the famous Greenskins left besides Gorfang, but as CA said he had a reputation for using all the greenskins effectively, he was not a one note commander. That lets them add units from every corner of the greenskin faction instead of just one. His nebulous fate also means they can drop him literally anywhere on the map. Gorfang would be in Black Crag in one of the most crowded parts of the map, which I think would be a mistake.
@animalxINSTINCT893 ай бұрын
Not sure if it's supported in the lore, but I'd love to see the Greenskins get some gunpowder weapons. In the same vein as the arrer boys, have them be incredibly inaccurate but hit like a truck. I love playing greenskins but I'd really like to be able to fight battles in a way other than "smash into the enemy with the biggest stuff you've got"
