Great video. Lot of hard work. Worked a dairy farm with a buddy of mine going to college in the 70’s. He always played music. Said it relaxed the cows. I remember my grandparents milking in the 60’s always had a radio going, too. Great to see your hard work and dedication to the stock.

This is a great channel. I milked cows 20 years ago and watching this brings back so many memories. I liked that you concentrated on the milking process today - I think a lot of people dont realize that it is twice a day, every day. I sit at a cubicle now, but I miss those days. Keep up the great work. Love this channel.

I agree, the boot wash is cool. Thanks for sharing and the detailed explanation of how you keep your milking herd clean of Mastitis. Really very interesting. You also treat your cows very well and the cows show it in their nice behavior. A whole lot of work and attention to detail to produce the milk we need in this country, thankyou. I hope the people that get their "swipe card food stamp money" for free from the tax dollars the rest of us pay watch something like your videos and develop an appreciation for all the work and time hat goes into making the milk. Farming is the backbone of our country. Without farming nothing else (and nobody else) works.

You are really great at showing the positive side of dairy farms, and what all is takes to safeguard us non farmers. You also don't hold back the struggles it takes to become a successful farmer in general. I have no idea how my grandparents lived to be in their mid, and late nineties with very few health issues, by drinking non pasteurized milk ( when I was a small child it was straight out of the cow) and using straight up lard. Now days everything kills us. Lol maybe it's doctors that are actually killing the dairy industry. Hmmmm and politics.

Boyd Gilbreath I sometimes think there not kicking, maybe they are just ticklish?
@marlinguidegun16574 жыл бұрын
I was thinking that when I was a kid, I got kicked in the head a few times milking, that setup eliminates that problem.
@keithfraser43284 жыл бұрын
Lol guys, the cows are not thinking about kicking, most of them are veterans at this, maybe some of the new comers will think about kicking a little. For the most part I believe they dance like that, because they are uncomfortable because of being full of milk, makes them a little sensitive. However they know relieve is on its way, so they generally don’t kick. Now if your a bad farmer and don’t treat the cows with respect, and compassion, those cows are very likely to kick but I would too if it was always a bad experience. Those fellows don’t deserve to called farmers, they are criminals, and give good farmers like Erik and his family a bad name.

Interesting about the oxytocin use. And as a human mom it was interesting to learn the cows have to *let down* their milk just like us humans.
@TheGhostOfLuciasClay4 жыл бұрын
That's part of the reason for the procedures before putting the milkers on. Pre-dipping, then wiping with hand, to drying with towel all help stimulate the cow so she'll release oxytocin to be able to release the milk.
@paulrivera10384 жыл бұрын
Sorry I started watching about 7 months ago , just wondering and I know you probably answered this a hundred times!, How many total milk-able cows do you have and how many times a day do you milk them lastly How many years can you milk a cow and sorry to ask but what happens to cows when they stop producing milk do they become “meat” cows? Just curious. Love the channel it’s good to see father and son working so close , you can tell a good Christian family!!
