@HazZzur9 жыл бұрын
Dalai Ankhbayar that classification does not exist in this way. Toxin: Every chemical that harms you, no matter the origin or way of exposure Poison: Passive Toxin inside of some organisms against predators/parasites/whatever harmful other organism Venom: Agressive Toxin with a distinct way of transmission (injecting, spitting,...) for hunting and/or defense The reason most Venoms don't hurt you when you drink them is because they are peptide-based and as such get denaturated by your stomach acid.

@patrikmanni355910 жыл бұрын
An animal being extremely venomous creates evolutionary pressure favoring other animals in its environment that don't attempt to eat it. Over time many of the animals previously natural predators will simply stop trying to eat the species. But in very large and diverse ecosystems like what you tend to find in oceans there will always be some predators that still try to eat it. So the evolutionary pressure favoring the more venomous individuals remains. That's how you end up with very venomous or poisonous animals and plants that use it merely as a defense mechanism in places like rain forests and reefs.
@samik8310 жыл бұрын
From Wiki: "The pain is said to be so severe that the victims of its sting have been known to demand that the affected limb be amputated." "I got spiked on the finger by a Stonefish in Australia … never mind a bee sting. … Imagine having each knuckle, then the wrist, elbow and shoulder being hit in turn with a sledgehammer over the course of about an hour. Then about an hour later imagine taking a real kicking to both kidneys for about 45 minutes so that you couldn’t stand or straighten up. I was late 20s, pretty fit physically and this was the tiniest of nicks. Got sensation back in my finger after a few days but had recurrent kidney pains periodically for several years afterwards."

These are a risk walking around the beach. You'd be unlucky to be stabbed by one while you're swimming. However there are plenty of other good reasons not to swim around Oz like Box Jellyfish, which are far more dangerous and much more painful. Australia is a dodgy (but interesting) place.

There is no way you can't continue this series, too many questions left unanswered. What's this fish' main predator? How is this mechanism of injecting a toxin used in his natural habitat? What is the chemical composition of this venom (active component)? How long time would the average person have after being stung before dying? What's the life span of the fish? How do they reproduce? How many eggs do they lay? Are they vulnerable or an endangered species? Are they edible? Seymour every tried a bite? Could you? How would you prepare it for cooking? Is it related to the putterfish? Can it inflate? ....
@TechyBen10 жыл бұрын
Venom in the sea tends to need to be stronger to have a similar effect as on the land. This is due to fish anatomy and how the venom needs to work quickly or powerfully to have an effect. On the land, we get stinging nettles and similar that just cause a rash and make us avoid them. So the little stone fish is just saying "keep away", it's just were a little too sensitive (no ones fault, just a fact of life) to the message. :O
@MrMrArago7 жыл бұрын
My bro and my cousin (they where 11 resp. 14 at the time) tried to fish up some fishes bare handed when they where at red sea. As they where looking around they found a stone (the stone fish in disguise) which was moving around, they came quickly to a conclusion that it was some sort of a fish so they decided to catch it. They had problems catching it cause it moved quite fast and it camouflaged well, but they managed to catch it in the end, with the help of the stone fish itself. How you might say, well it decided to bit my brothers finger. My cousin and bro took this opportunity to put a plastic pouch (which they brought with them) over the fish and my bros hand while it was still biting my bros finger. Then my bro kept slamming the fish on a ship (which had anchored nearby), till it finally gave up and released it's grip. Happily my brother and cousin swam back to land to show off their awesome catch to all nearby kids. My bro bragged about how he would grill it then eat it, but sadly his wish never came true cause shortly after that came the guard who was wondering all the commotion was all about. When he saw the stone fish in the pouch his face went green. He quickly grabbed the pouch threw it on the ground and took a nearby metal beam and punctured it till it stopped moving. Shortly after the guard informed my brother and cousin that the fish was very venomous, then just went on his way. Realizing this my brother and cousin turned extremely sad cause, they found out it was probably not edible and all their efforts went to nought. They also got informed that it was forbidden to fish at the tourist area and the next time they try to fish up any fishes they were to be kicked out. In the end my brother and cousin went back dispirited, and throughout rest of the trip they never got as excited again.
